Has this ever happened to you? You’re going shopping with friends and you know EXACTLY what you need. In an attempt to keep a budget, you bring just the cash for said item and, because you’re smart, you even leave your credit card at home.

You go to the store, you buy what you came for…then you see something else that you need. Something that if you don’t get, you’re never going to stop thinking about. What now, smartie pants? Well, because your friend understands she lends you the money. Shopping crisis averted.

But, how do you pay your friend back? You can try to remember to give her the money the next time you see her, but if that’s not soon, you don’t want to be a deadbeat. And, you really want to get her the cash ASAP. Because you’re a good friend, but also so that the next time this happens, she’ll continue to help you out! Enter Square Cash.

Square Cash is an app that let’s you send money instantly and for free. Gone are the days of worrying about when you can pay back friends and family, because with Square Cash the time is “any time you want!” And they don’t even need to have the app themselves to get the money.

All you do is download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Market and set up an account linked to your debit card. Then, start sending cash. It’s honestly that easy. Enter the amount you want to send and it will even automatically bring up your list of phone contacts. Or enter their $Cashtag.

Think of a $Cashtag as an instant way to reach (and pay) someone. I set up the $Cashtag: $weheartthis – so any time a friend owes me money, I can use this as an easy way for them to find me via the app or a link I can send them.

Seriously, how did we even exist before smart phones?

Another handy application for this app is bill splitting. I don’t know about you, but I always feel bad having to ask a waiter/waitress to split the bill. In two? That’s easy. But in five? I want to sink under the table after I ask! With the Square Cash app, one person can cover the bill and before the Uber even gets them home, they can have the money from their friends back in their account.

Download the app here for your operating system. And borrow and give with ease from here out!

  1. This is an awesome idea, and happens to me frequently, having to split a bill or pay someone money for something. I will have to share this with my friends and family.
