Shu Uemura 1Beauty addict, design junkie- sometimes I don’t know which title fits me more. What I do know is that when the two collide, I am one happy girl! With this in mind, we’re thrilled to bring you a new series; packaging porn! Photos of fabulous beauty product in packages that will make design fans swoon.

(photos: we heart this)

I’m a bit late to get on this boat, as the Tsumori Chisato for Shu Uemura holiday collection “Wish Upon a Star” was released in Fall ’09. But now that I’m on it, I am smitten. Tsumori, a Japanese fashion designer who prior to her own line worked for Issey Miyake, drew influence for the Shu line from the 1943 French Children’s book Le Petit Prince and combined it with the expected kawaii (that’s the Japanese term for cuteness).

What’s that give you? Packaging porn, that’s what! Gold stars, a black kitty (both in a playful, hand-drawn illustration style) and glitter, combined with Shu’s sexy clear housing that showcases the gorgeous product within. A thing of beauty!

I only caved and bought the Jupiter Brown Rouge Unlimited lipstick at Sephora, and I’m so glad I did. The color is beautiful, a peachy nude with subtle gold shimmer. But be sure to check out the other items they have from this limited edition collection. The Planet Cat Palette is to die for (though may make you roll over in the grave with the $55 price tag). And check out Shu Uemura’s site for the entire range.

  1. Wow! Leave it to Shu…classy, minimalist packaging that shows off the product perfectly. They impress me with everything they do.

Can’t wait to see next week’s offering!

  2. Wow – I love it! I’ve never had a Shu product, but it’s moved to the top of my list (and I have a little shopping spree planned for this weekend – yay). That black kitty kills me – I must have it! Is the kitty on everything in this line?

I love this new feature too – the photographs are awesome!

  3. Just saw shu uemura’s post via facebook.. I’m home sick today and on the computer more then usual.. shu is the deal ladies.. It has so much style and remains classic.. What a cute package to boot.. I want this little number!

  4. I read the first WORD of the Byline of this post and I knew that Stef had to have written it — I think its going on 3 years now that I’ve been hearing about her packaging obsession pasted all over the web! ;P Not to mention that looks like a coral-y lip color also right up her alley!

Not to overlook the fact that its Shu and he makes a better cosmetic than anyone out there!!!! Being such a Francophile, I feel a little ashamed with myself that I am not as enamored with Le Petit Prince as I should be but I love those gold stars!
