Anastasia Beverly Hills – review

anastasiabevhillsreview Anastasia Beverly Hills review

If you have any interest at all in the shape and upkeep of your eyebrows, and you haven’t heard of Anastasia Soare, I implore you to read this review. In short, Anastasia is a name synonymous with perfect brows. Don’t believe me? Then just take a look at some of the celebrity clients who have trusted their eyebrows to Anastasia: Heidi Klum, Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian and Reese Witherspoon. Is it a coincidence that all of these lovely ladies are known for their utterly flawless eyebrows?

Trust me when I tell you that my eyebrows have been my Achilles heel my entire life. As a young girl, I had the standard caterpillar brows, which quickly transformed into a goth look when I hit high school (tweezed beyond recognition). During college I tried to grow them out but I just could never seem to get them right. I still struggle with the shape of my brows every single day and I’ve yet to find a brow technician who “gets me” and understands exactly how my brows should frame my face. So I’ve pretty much given up on professional waxing and, sadly, my DIY approach has yielded mediocre results.

That is until the wht team, with some sort of crazy beauty intuition, sent me the Anastasia Six Elements Brows Kit, a Brow Wiz Pencil and the Tinted Brow Gel for review.

If you need a total brow makeover, I highly recommend picking up the Six Elements Brows Kit. This kit includes an instructional DVD (watch it before you begin!), Precision Tweezers, Brow Powder Duo, Brow Stencils (Set of Five Shapes), Mini Duo Brush #7 and Anastasia’s Best-Selling Clear Brow Gel.

Don’t worry over the Brow Stencils, in this kit Anastasia has every brow shape covered. This is hands-down the best stencil collection I have ever seen and I was jumping for joy when I actually, after all these years, found a stencil that perfectly worked for my particular shape. Most stencils never seem quite right, but I’m confident that you will find one that works here because, let’s face it, Anastasia knows brows like no one else. I would pay the retail price of this kit for the stencils and tweezers alone.

Of all the wonderful products I tested, I have to give special props to two in particular. First, the Brow Wiz ROCKS because it’s got the most extra-fine point imaginable, enabling you to really get between the hairs and fill in your brows for a look that doesn’t smear or fade throughout the day. The pencil itself is firm enough so that the tip never breaks, yet it deposits the perfect amount of pigment. Plus, it’s self-sharpening!

The other product that I love is the Matte Highlighter pencil in “Camille” – part of the Brow Kit and 1/2 of the Brow Duality Pencil. If you need to give your brows some extra oomph, this pencil is THE solution. One swipe under each brow and your brows will suddenly appear more defined and absolutely flawless. The texture of this pencil is creamy but not too creamy, it blends like a dream and it’s not so bright that it makes you look like you’re wearing a highlighter. It’s magic. Really.

Additionally, the wht team members received an array of eye-enhancing Anastasia products, so please stay tuned for their reviews in the comments. We will be discussing loads of Anastasia Beverly Hills products including the Brow Definer, the Brow Duality pencil, Lash Lifting Mascara, Go Brow (a universal brow pencil), the Brow Pen (a long wearing brow tint) and the Perfect Brow Pencil (duel ended with a spoolie).

Whew! And seriously, if you can’t improve your brows with one or more of Anastasia’s products, you might want to consider rocking the no-brow look.

Don’t shave your brows – save them! By entering our latest giveaway – an eye popping, three piece set of products from Anastasia Beverly Hills!

Review team – Let us know which product and colors you received and let’s talk eyebrows! Readers, have you tried any thing from this Hollywood favorite?

It was like some sort of eyebrow Christmas when this package arrived, overflowing with every product and tool you could imagine. For scragly eyebrow me, I was over the moon! I chose 3 products to review.

But first a word about shades. We tried to match up the shades the best we could with the testers. But because the Anastasia shade library is so vast, it was sometimes hard to know whether someone was blonde, ash blonde, dark blonde…

My favorite product I reviewed was the Perfect Brow Pencil, a standard brow pencil, regular length and width with a spoolie brush on the end. What made it so amazing was the color. Blonde is a PERFECT MATCH for me. I’ve never used a brow product that blends so seamlessly with my eyebrows before. I think Blondes have it hard, even brow products labeled for me usually make me look kind of Joan Crawford-y. Not this. I want to stockpile 10 of them in case they ever stop making it! It wears great too, stays put all day.

Next up is the Brow Pen, which I liken to a sheer, fine tip Sharpie for your brows! It’s got a super precise point and the product is a lightly tinted, sheer kind of stain. It goes on very lightly and REALLY stays put until you remove it with soap and water. Unfortunately, the shade I got (Universal Deep) is too dark for me. I will try the Universal light because I liked this product. But with only 2 shades, I don’t think I’ll be as happy with the match as I was with the Perfect Pencil.

Lastly, I tried the Tinted Brow Gel in Caramel. This is suggested for golden brown to light brunette hair, but worked well with my dark blonde brows too. This is shimmery, which is odd because it’s not mentioned on her site (and this shade is not on Sephora). But it gives your brows just a little bit of subtle pizazz. The formula is amazing, it really holds your brows in place and not in a crunchy way (that’s the worst, isn’t it?) I thought it might be nice for the holidays, but honestly, I think I’d prefer it in a flat shade. But it’s great when you’re doing a simple or minimal makeup application or just running out the door.

Overall, I am so amazingly impressed with this line! Although I’d change my shade picks on 2 of the products, the formulas themselves are 5 big stars.

I received Anastasia’s Tinted Brow Gel in Espresso and for someone that uses all kinds of makeup daily, I ashamedly admit not using such a product. Of course, whenever I have someone professionally do my make up, in the end, my brows look fantastic, and it really does make a difference as it finishes off their work wonderfully. So, I really am grateful to get this product to test. You might say I needed this product to prove that I should incorporate it in my makeup routine. I will be making a better attempt at using this because, not only does Anastasia make it beyond simple to use it’s even affordable. I used this on my brows after I brushed them with short upward strokes-and was amazed at how nice they looked. This was not flaky at all and looked natural plus my brows looked great all day long. It is available at Nordstrom in the brow studio and at Sephora too-and it’s only $21.00!
I am interested in some of the other products that Stef wrote so well about.. And btw, Stef, your brows look amazing to me!

I’ve been an Anastasia fan for a while now. I have used the Brow Definer pencil for about two years now – in Brunette. I love that the pencil has a spoolie on the other end to really blend the pencil lines in with your hairs. Only down side is that the “Brunette” pencil isn’t quite dark enough for my hair, I prefer a dark color on my brows since 1) my hair is really dark 2) I like a really strong brow.

But I also love the highlighter pencils too!

This is my first go around with Anastasia. Of course i’ve heard of her but i could not afford to see her on a regular basis, nor do i think i’d be able to, unless she could squeeze me between JLo and Demi Moore! I have been to Damon Roberts who is the “King” vs. her being the “Queen” of eyebrows. I do admit my brows never looked better.
Regardless, i was pretty stoked to receive the Lash Lifting Mascara and the Brow Wiz in Ash Blonde.
I absolutely love the mascara, it goes on great, no clumps, just a beautiful black lash that looks like I used curler but didn’t. Its totally in my daily rotation.
The Brow Wiz i was a little unsure about but once i tried it, i did like the results. I could of used a shade darker i think but its precise and gives a good shade and fills in any holes that i have.

Well, all of you with difficult brows should be very pleased with Miss Anastasia. She was a name I (along with everyone else) was familiar with, and maybe even a little intimidated by. I know she had her own exclusive brow design palace and figured that it was Anastasia’s magic as opposed to the products she used. This may or may not be true.

I received the Go Brow double-sided pencil with a medium brown on one side and a creamy, peachy highlighter on the other. I have used this every single day since I got it. I absolutely love it.

Now I haven’t got bushy brows–mine tend to be sparse and dark with lots of stray little hairs. Pretty, I know. My dillemma has always been plucking the strays while keeping a shape in the sparseness of the rest of my brow (and filling in without it looking as though I drew them on my face (maybe I could’ve used the stencils).

The brow pencil itself is a little hard (it should be) so I warm it between my fingers for a moment. The color that is deposited is just the right amount so that your brows look filled, not drawn.

The highlighter side is creamy and soft and the color is shimmery and natural. This underscores a perfect shaped brow, or creates one. In other words, if you’ve plucked perfectly, it highlights; if you’ve made a mistake or two (stray hair, a little redness, etc.) this conceals the bad and highlights the good.

The best thing about the highlighter is the peachy-pink nude shimmer: a paler version of any ethnicity’s skin tone whether or not your undertones are yellow or pink. Most highlighters I find are white, and–while they do highlight–unless you are an unearthly shade of pale, they don’t look natural.

I only added a bit of my own brow gel to “set” the look and was very happy.
So, five stars from me along with the acknowlegement that I would like to try more from Anastasia’s bag of tricks.

I am absolutely terrified by my eyebrows especially since I accidently cut some of my eyebrow hairs off when I was 9-years-old, believing that safety scissors wouldn’t be sharp enough to cut hair. So, I never wax nor thread nor tweeze my own brows for fear of jacking them up again. When I received the perfect brow pencil, I siezed up. What was I going to do with this?

But I was able to get over my fear to try this product, and I liked it. The pencil went on smooth without tugging and didn’t feel dry like some of the eyebrow pencils I tried in the past. I am always apprecitive of a good spoolie because it is good for taming brows, seperating lashes, and brushing back “baby hair” along the hair line. Since I am in dire need of a professional shaping, this pencil did help me fake a neat pair of brows. I don’t know if I’d purchase another one, but maybe one day I will feel brave enough to do regularly style my own brows. :-)

I have what I would consider to be healthy eyebrows, but eyebrow pencils have been a part of my make-up routine ever since I discovered that in times of extreme stress (college finals, anyone?) I apparently start pulling out my eyebrow hairs without realizing it (whoops)! Even though I have ditched finals, the pencils have stuck around, so I was pretty excited to receive Brow Wiz in brunette. I have to just gush about the packaging – I adore the slim, mechanical pencil and spoolie brush! It just feels elegant. As for the pencil itself, I found that the color blended in well, the thinness made it easier to apply, and I definitely appreciate the self-sharpening aspect! I think I’ll probably be getting this pencil again.

I also got to try out the Lash Lifting Mascara. I found that it gave me a nice, natural looking lash – work/everyday appropriate. I especially loved the thick brush and the fact that it didn’t clump. Since it doesn’t clump, I can dig in a little more with the brush and get nicely separated lashes. Personally, I like a little more lengthening from a mascara, but I thought it did a good job of fattening up my lashes and keeping them curled. It is definitely a quality mascara!

I tested the Brow Duality highlighting duo in shell and lace. This was the perfect time to test because I just had my brows professionally waxed and tweezed, so I got to test the product with the “forest” right before and right after. It definitely makes a difference after! Before the waxing it didn’t even remotely show up on me – after quite a bit more. The matte side perfectly matches my skin tone and after the waxing does seem to make the brows pop a bit – it blends well and covers imperfections well – it would probably work quite well on dark circles. The shimmer side is very pretty – just has a nice light amount of shimmer for the evening. I love the idea of a daytime and nighttime pencil. Both sides are very creamy but not too creamy so they collect in the crease. They blend beautifully. So, it’s a very nice combo. Would I buy it again? Probably not, because it was so light on me it didn’t really seem worth switching from my shadow combos that I use to highlight anyways. Personally, I give it 4 stars. If you’re looking for a high quality highlighter though, that can also double as a concealer of sorts, this may be the perfect product for you!

I tried out the Perfect Brow Pencil and LOVE It, I’ve tried a few eye-brow pencils this year.. and Rakisha I was afraid of them too =) I never really fooled with my brows, but earlier this year I had them sculpted for the first time and have since gotten into the brow world and am getting the hang of finding the right products. Of all the brow pencils I’ve tried this one and the Benefit one I tried are tied for first place. This one has so many more shades to choose from, six total. I tried the Strawburn, and it works with my natural brow color, I think I may get the lighter one as well because this stays so good and looks so natural.

The spoolie is super handy to keep the brows looking their best. This is a definite 5 star from me, and I’m anxious to try more of this line.. I hadn’t really tried them before and I can’t figure out why. The packaging and the product are top notch. Can’t wait to try more! They have so many brow kits on Sephora, I don’t know where to start :)

Ha! Rebecca – me too! I also have a healthy pair of brows and instead of pulling; I rub my eyebrow when I’m concentrating or stressed. (When I was a baby, I rubbed my eyebrow and hummed to myself to fall asleep – what does that mean?!) So, when I’m really overworked I have to catch myself or I’ll rub away the hairs. OMG, you all must think I’m insane – but it’s sort of therapeutic to admit your quirks!

Anyway, I picked out the perfect eyebrow pencil for my needs, the Brow Definer. One side is the Perfect Brow Pencil in Ultimate brown – it’s a nice warm brown that blends in well with my dark brown brows. The tip is sharp and firm for drawing quick, defined strokes and as noted, these products last all day. I use this to fill in any places that I’ve over tweezed (or rubbed away) for a very natural look and more defined brows. Love it! Especially, because it’s one step and so easy to do my brows.

Then the second side of the pencil is a bonus finishing touch – the Clear Brow Gel. Holds my brows and color in place and (as Stef perfectly described) not crunchy! I can feel this a teeny bit on my brows (sort of like how you can tell the feel of freshly washed hair and hair with product in it) when I subconsciously touched them. So besides keeping my brows groomed, the gel reminded me to stop touching my face (so bad for my skin).

Plus, the packaging, even with travel, has held up well. The caps stay in place on both ends of this pencil when shuffled around in bags and carried to work/on trips, etc. Five stars all around the plucker to the stars Anastasia

I remember the day I discovered Anastasia…on Oprah of course. I watched as she transformed girl after girl and gave them beautiful eyebrows. That’s the day I really started to pay attention to my brows and stopped neglecting them. I never used a brow pencil before seeing her, but I’ve used one ever since watching her on Oprah that day. I have a spot on one of my brows where I cut myself as a child. Because of a small scar there, the hairs are not as thick as they should be. I use a brow pencil to fill in those gaps where the hair doesn’t grow evenly. I also use it to define my brows. I’ve tried many since that day, but am not sure why I never actually bought Anastasia’s. I’m so glad I was able to test her Perfect Brow Pencil in Medium Ash/Medium Brown. It is the absolute perfect match to my brows. I’ve used others that have been pretty close, but this one truly is exact. It blends in so well it’s almost like it was made just for me. I’m eager to try more of her products. I would love to try the brow gel next. I’ve used a sample of the clear gel which I really liked, but the colored one sounds even better. This pencil gets 5 stars from me. I will definitely be buying more of Anastasia’s brow products in the future.

First I would like to apologize for not getting my review up yesterday like I was supposed to. My computer decided to rebel against me and kept freezing up last night. When I received the eye brow kit I was very much intimidated. I didn’t know that you could do so much to a brow. I usually just pluck here and there to make sure I don’t get a unibrow and call it good.

My sister-in-law on the other hand is always asking me if I think she should shape her brow this way or that way. So I thought this would be a good gift to give to her. She hasn’t reported back just yet but, as soon as she does I will give a full report.

I’ve been obsessed with my eyebrows since I was a teenager and received my first pair of tweezers. My mom told me to be conservative with tweezing and said that Brooke Shields never tweezed her eyebrows,so fuller was better. Now I have strongly arched eye brows naturally and as few as 5 years ago, I could get away without an eyebrow pencil. I’d just use a little brow gel to keep my brows tidy. I think I took for granted that I’d always have great eyebrows. My eyebrows, once very low maintenance and naturally full have decided to have split personalities. Sometimes I have a bald patch here or there and need a pencil to fill in the spot and sometimes I get crazy Juice Man eye brows that desperately require brow gel (it is no longer optional). I was excited to test the double-ended brow definer. The pencil side shade is Ultimate Brown and perfectly patches up my dark brown brows. The clear brow gel keeps them in check. My eyebrows looked perfect all day and not in a creepy Joan Crawford kind of way. This is now one of my everyday must use products. Love it!

I got the Perfect Brow Pencil in Ash Blonde and the Tinted Brow Gel in Brunette. I’m dark blonde, so both products should’ve been well suited to my coloring but – and I hate to say this – I just didn’t ‘get on’ with them. The pencil was so hard it almost hurt to use (OK, I know, I’m a wimp!), while the brow gel was just too dark when applied. Like many other reviewers, I’ve never felt the need to use either such product, and, to be perfectly honest, I’m still not convinced by them. They still seem an unnecessary extra step that I know I’ll never incorporate into my (albeit lazy) routine. I’m sure Anastasia would disagree, but, as and when I get a chance (or can afford it!), I’ll go to her to get my brows tamed but leave it at that!

    Hi Faith,

Sorry you’re having trouble finding redhead brow products. Up until now, I had trouble even finding blonde products, so I can imagine how tough it would be for you.

Anastasia does make the Perfect Brow pencil in a color called Strawburn, which they recommend for auburn hair. Maybe give that one a try. As I said, it’ s one fab pencil!
