All of a sudden, it’s spring, and you know what that means: I’m starting to pack away my heavy winter clothes, and simultaneously unpack my worries about the amount of skin I will soon be forced to display in warm weather fashion. Winter is always tough on my complexion, and I definitely need intense moisturizing before I break out the shorts and tank tops.

So I’m excited to discover The Jojoba Company and the wonders of their signature ingredient.

“What IS Joe-joe-ba?” I incorrectly wondered out loud (I’ve since learned that the correct pronunciation is ho-ho-ba. You’re welcome). Jojoba is a desert shrub that produces beans that when processed contain 50% pure liquid wax. This Jojoba wax is the coolest natural ingredient I could ever imagine—the liquid wax is just like that which is found in healthy, young human skin.

As an ingredient in the Jojoba Company’s products, jojoba wax plumps and hydrates, helping skin look and feel healthy. By mimicking the skin’s natural oils, jojoba is able to penetrate to the deep epidermal layers where cell generation takes place. Jojoba is chock full of vitamins and healing properties; it’s naturally antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, analgesic, anti-inflammatory AND hypoallergenic. That’s one powerful wax!

The Jojoba Company was founded in 2008 by jojoba pioneer Ian Turner, who grew his first crop of jojoba on his family estate in New South Wales, Australia. Turner spotted the potential to harness the wax’s healing and anti-aging properties for use in skincare, and a full line of natural Australian skincare soon followed.

Before I cracked open the beautiful, origami-like lilac and white outside packaging of the Jojoba Company Tuberose & Clementine Body Soufflé ($39.95 8.4 fl.oz), I spent awhile perusing the printed facts on the box.

Besides stating that the company is Australian-owned and the product is made there, I learned that the soufflé is free of anything you’d possibly want to avoid (chemicals, parabens, artificial fragrance or colors, animal derivatives, gluten, and dairy). Besides star ingredient jojoba, the soufflé contains tuberose oil, clementine and rose geranium, a blend that smells divine while it calms and soothes skin.

I wondered if “soufflé” was just a fancy name for plain old cream, but this product is light and fluffy, almost airy. Yes, soufflé is the only word for it! For a product with such a light texture, it locks in moisture and makes my skin feel super-soft.

This cocktail of emollient cocoa, shea and mango butters has renewed my skin in no time. If it can get me back into tip top shape this quickly, the Jojoba Company’s fabulous soufflé isn’t a splurge, it’s a necessity!
