2015 Gift Guide: Subscription Boxes

Boxes full of surprises that show up randomly at your door. A dream? Nope, a subscription box! And of course, I ADORE them. I’d subscribe to each and every one I could find if my budget allowed. They’re also the ultimate gift: fun to unwrap, catered to a person’s loves or hobbies, multiple items inside. I’m getting excited just thinking about them!
Here are some subscription boxes that I think would make fabulous gifts…
GlobeIn Artisan Box ($35 per month, but that drops with more months you purchase)
Give a gift and give back at the same time. The items in a GlobeIn box are gathered from all over the world; quirky, beautiful, exotic items curated with general monthly themes like kitchen, entertain or picnic. These purchases help artists in remote, often impoverished areas to build sustainable businesses and GlobeIn shares their story with each buyer. Your gift recipient will be tickled and touched at the same time!
Dollar Shave Club (as little as $3 a month)
It might be harder to sell a man on the joys of a subscription box, unless said box brings him four fresh razors every month for under 9 bucks! It’s hard to believe, but I’ve seen the razor myself and it’s damn nice. (Not to mention their line of fancy grooming products that your recipient can also choose with their gift.) Your man can choose from three types of blades for either $3, $6 or $9 per month for four razors replacements (he’ll get the handle in his first shipment.) The idea of a new blade a week is pretty luxurious, don’t be surprised if he’s got a new swagger to his clean-shaven step!
FabFitFun (regularly $49.99 with free shipping per season, but $10 off your first box with code WeHeart10)
The name really says it all: items that are fun Fab, keep you Fit or are Fun. Most items fit multiple tags! Expect things that chicks love; fashion, jewelry, beauty, workout gear, snacks. And for that price tag, you get a box that’s worth well over $200 (some have been worth more than $300.) I say it often, it’s my favorite subscription box, and with good reason.
KoreaKube (prices start at $39.99 per box)
Know someone with an international flair? Get them a Korean themed box direct from Seoul. Oddly enough, their themes speak directly to MY soul: beauty, snacks, hangover. (You can also choose from winter, tea or study). This isn’t quite a subscription box, as you can only buy them one at a time. But I’m sure once your recipient gets one, they’ll be buying more. Best of all, it’s free international shipping!
Mouth (monthly boxes start at $37.50)
I literally want to eat everything on this entire website! It’s indie, small batch foods, with every item sounding more delectable than the next. Old Bay peanuts, Pimento Cheese kettle chips, Artichoke Parmesan tapenade…see what I mean? You can order items separately, or sign someone up for one of their monthly subscriptions. You can’t go wrong with any of them, but how amazing does the Cravings Box sound? It’s two jars of salty, sour, crunchy pickles and and two sweet treats like cookies, chocolate bars, caramels…I’ll just stop typing and you go order this.
we heartsters – what’s your favorite subscriptions box? Let me know in the comments!
Stef is many things. Amongst them: editor and co-founder of we heart this, photographer, condiment connoisseur, Philly girl in the California desert, borderline hoarder and a hardcore beauty junkie.
skin tone: NC 25/30
skin type: oily with a fear of rosacea
favorite beauty product: high end skincare and lip products
My boyfriend has been using the dollar shave club for since sometime this summer. He loves the connivence of them arriving every month. There are lots of quality options at three price points.
I have a BeautyBox5 subsciption and really love it. I have been thinking about adding the FabFitFun and Dollar Shave Club subscriptions…
Such a great gift! A Mouth subscription would be especially amazing!
Okay, I had never even heard of subscription boxes until I found this website! Honestly. Now, I’m hooked! I agree with you, Stef, FitFabFun has the BEST box! I also enjoy birchbox & beauty box 5. I think I may need to look at Mouth though, sounds right up my alley!!
