Winter is always tough on my skin. But this year has been ridiculous! Between extra-cold temps and a weekly dose of Retin-A (which is almost more than my face can tolerate right now), my face has never been this parched and flaky. I actually felt embarrassed about how unsightly my skin had become.
So when I saw that I was testing Pixi Beauty Glow Tonic ($29.00 250ml), I was a little concerned. I’ve heard people rave about Glow Tonic ever since it hit the shelves. But said people are usually very young and acne-prone. Glow Tonic was even the recipient of the 2017 Teen Vogue Acne Award-that’s how great it is at treating and preventing breakouts!
Alas, I’m far from a teen and any serious acne I battled is just an icky memory. Pixi Beauty describes Glow Tonic as an “invigorating facial toner that deeply cleans pores by sweeping away excess oil and impurities.” Sounds great for an oily-skinned tween, but me? I was worried it would swipe away the last of the moisture in my skin.
Testers must be brave, so I got out my oversized bottle and got down to business. I poured a bit of Glow Tonic onto a cotton ball and swiped all over my face, neck and décolletage, and waited for the burn. And waited. The burn never arrived. My skin felt soothed, and dried down to a softness I hadn’t felt since fall. What IS this golden elixir?
What IS this golden elixir? Glycolic Acid is Glow Tonic’s secret.
Glycolic Acid is Glow Tonic’s secret. This smart ingredient knows what our skin needs, and is both exfoliating and balancing. It removes the outer layer of dead cells, letting bright, healthy skin emerge. Add some ginseng for energizing, aloe vera for hydration and you have a skincare cocktail from which any skin type can benefit. One thing missing from this product is alcohol, which explains the lack of burning that I so appreciate!
Because my skin felt so good after the first application, I started using Glow Tonic morning and night under moisturizer and/or makeup. With no other changes to my routine, my flaky patches diminished, and in some areas completely disappeared, and redness was healed. As someone who only uses toner on her t-zone in the most sweltering summer months, Glow Tonic has been an eye opener. Instead of piling on moisturizer, all I needed was more gentle exfoliation by way of a toner.
And while we can’t get an oversized, customized bottle like Stef did, we CAN get Glow Tonic To-Go; pre-soaked cotton rounds that are perfect for travel ($20.99, 60 count).
With daily use, Glow Tonic will help improve any issue your skin may have, including dryness like mine, acne, scarring, discoloration and signs of aging. It’s reasonably priced and cruelty-free, and I wish it came in gallon jugs!
