Can aromatherapy really help me stay strong?

See that beautifully designed box above? It holds an alternative medicine that claims it can help me with my will power. Yeah that’s right, medicine. It’s aromatherapy and it’s been around for centuries. 21 drops is just putting a modern spin on it.

Besides smelling fabulous, essentials oils are known to have curative properties for almost any condition you can think of. Stress, anxiety and depression are typical aliments that can be helped, but did you know that hangovers, PMS and indigestion can be targeted as well? 21 drops knew, and they’ve got an oil blend for each of them. They’ve got 21 blends, actually.

Color me a believer of the power in an oil. (Check out their simple explanation of how aromatherapy works if you’re not). I’ve used peppermint oil to alleviate headaches. I instantly feel uplifted when I smell lemon. Lavender always makes me feel calm. But when I saw that they have a Will Power blend ($29 for 8 ml), in the midst of my diet and as I try to dodge the Halloween candy dish (yes, Halloween candy in August! Does our receptionist hate me?) I knew I had to give it a shot.

#19 has notes of Cedarwood Wood, Ginger Rhizome and Geranium Leaf oils. My husband says it smells more like an ointment than a fragrance, which is surprisingly accurate for a husband. You shouldn’t go into these thinking “perfume”. But I would call it a fragrant ointment! I love the scent; slightly herbal, woodsy and spicy.

There’s a quote on their site about #19 that says “There is a moment before you actually employ self-control when you must summon your will into action. This is what our Will Power blend is all about. It’s for just that moment. It awakens your resolve.” So, you’re thinking, does it awaken your resolve? And I’ll tell you – I think it does. I have found that when I use it I’m a bit more concerned with sniffing myself than I am with whatever I’m trying to summons my will power for.

And as for the modern spin; rubber cases surrounding air tight rollerball bottles and a Pantone design award in their belt make 21 drops unlike any perceived notions you may have of essentials oils. (i.e. I bet there’s not a Birkenstock to be found amongst the makers).

we heartsters, do you believe in the power of essentials oils?

  1. Eek, Halloween candy… that’s my diet kryptonite, @stef !

I definitely believe in the power of aromatherapy, and I’m very intrigued by 21 Drops’ cool delivery method. A rollerball! Why didn’t I think of that? I can’t wait to head to Sephora to check these out.

  2. I think fragrances can definitely affect your mood. I’m very sensitive to them, so I’m not sure how I feel about the ointment smell…. I’d definitely be interested in trying a different scent though. Especially since the packaging is AMAZING. I wish I had those design skills!

  3. Very intrigued by this and could definitely use a will power boost! ESPECIALLY with Halloween around the corner… I’m a sucker for all things chocolate! Love that they make essential oils look cool and sophisticated too.

  4. I so believe in the power of aromatherapy. I love adding some drops of essential oils in my bath or even on my pulse points.

The packaging is awesome for this brand. I am going to check out their other scents.

  5. I definitely believe in the power of aromatherapy too! I have for years relied on it for health reasons.. I will look at this product for sure.. I like the packaging – It’s color lends to the will power needed to get thru whatever is needing a boost!

  6. I like to use aromatherapy, too! Not to mention, so many of the oils have fantastic uses beyond just smell (antibacterial lavender, antifungal eucalyptus, etc). And while the smell alone may not seal the deal, I think the extra effort and thought put into applying the oil makes your intent even stronger!
I love the packaging, it’s so sleek. I’ll definitely be checking out this brand!
