Algenist Retinol Firming and Lifting Serum and Eye Gel – Review

I do not ever remember going to confessional when I was at Grace and St. Peters in elementary school. If I were to go now, it would go something like this:

“Father, it has been forever since my last confession and I have sinned. I stayed out in the sun for longer than I should (sometimes with baby oil and a tin foil towel). I picked at my blemishes causing scars, and I did not wear eye cream until it was too late.”

Lucky for me, a multitude of sins (but sadly not all) can be minimized with Algenist and the miracle ingredient, Retinol. A magic eraser for skin sins, Retinol can fade dark spots, smooth wrinkles and provide a healthy glow to lackluster skin.

I have been a big fan of Retinol drugstore products for years, and experienced no redness or irritation, so I knew I could up the ante, and go for a more high-end anti-ager. In comes Algenist Retinol Firming and Lifting Serum ($98) and Firming and Lifting Eye Gel ($68).

Algenist uses a special compound called Alguraonic Acid, a powerful anti-ager derived from microalgae. As an ocean lover, I have seen first-hand the benefits of algae on the skin.

The mircoalgae coupled with Retinol, work together to firm skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines and improve elasticity while providing hydration. The serum is powerful, yet gentle enough for us sensitive-skinned gals.

The eye gel also uses Alguronic acid to smooth wrinkles, and includes ProPeptide3 to tighten and lift the sensitive eye area. The gel glides on smoothly and feels light as though there is nothing there. According to the Algenist Firming and Lifting Eye Gel study, 90% of participants responded saying their eye area feels firmer and more elastic in just 28 days.

I have oily skin so I did not follow the serum with a moisturizer. I did not feel irritated or dry at all. Most important of all for me, I experienced zero breakouts while using Algenist. My sensitive eye area encountered no redness or itching at all. I used both at night, although the serum can be used during the day followed by a moisturizer with SPF.

With Algenist we can skip the confessional and never have to admit to our prior skin care sins!

  1. My skin sins are just like yours, @glamazon56 , right down to the reflective tanning blanket (which wasn’t bad enough—no, I had to coat myself with oil and spray the oil with a water bottle while roasting myself on the blanket). I’ve used Algenist products in the past and was super-impressed with the quality. The eye gel you tested sounds great.

  2. I’ve only tried their firming neck cream as a sample from Sephora rewards. I’m only 35 so I don’t have a lot of sagging but the cream certainly makes the neck cord lines look softer. I’ll have to sample these next time I’m at Sephora!

  3. I’m not in love with serums–I usually head straight for the heavy duty anti-aging moisturizers–but a gentle one with retinol? It’s on my wish list!

  4. I love Algenist products. They are so genius and work like crazy! I have not tried this serum or gel yet but totally can’t wait to get my hands on them.

  5. This line looks intriguing–I definitely am going to sample the serum. One of my biggest skin confessions is definitely not being as proactive with sunscreen as I should have been, so I try really hard to be on my game with it now.
