Love is…this cozy kit of Bare Escentuals essentials
Remember those hippy-dippy “Love is…” cartoons of the seventies? They were the ones with the not-quite anatomically correct boy and girl (sometimes naked) carrying big hearts while gazing through the funny pages with saucer-like eyes, walking into sunsets and blissfully telling us all what love and happiness is in simple, concrete terms.
I’m always the cynic when it comes to the abstract but these cartoons told it how it is in the real world, even if was with stars in their eyes. Today, my skeptical self believes in love in the form of a few solid things: my husband, hard work, a good bra, and Bare Escentuals. Like the cartoon, Bare Escentuals has discovered that Love & Happiness go hand in hand, turning those into a solid, hard-working, lovable collection that will even make the cynics glow.
I write of my Bare Escentuals love often, as it is one of the few brands that I am faithful to year after year. The Love & Happiness kit sounds like it was made for me. Truth is, it seems to be made for everyone.
Big & Bright eyeliner, Best Friend Lip Balm, Queen Phyllis Matte Eyecolor, Prime Time Brightening Primer
For starters, the colors are warm and subtle with one sharp edge. Included in the kit are…
Big & Bright Eyeliner in Emerald – A glide on eyeliner with supersaturated color, long wearability, and its skinny pen-like design allows for precision application. Cool and edgy compared with the rest of the collection and an excellent juxtaposition.
Best Friend Lip Balm in light raspberry sheer – Who doesn’t want soft, sexy, berry-stained lips a la Natassja Kinski in Tess?
Prime Time Brightening Sunlit Eyelid Primer – Super love this shimmery, hard-working, long-lasting primer. I tested this product for wht earlier this year (read my review here.)
Queen Phyllis Matte Eyecolor – A gorgeous matte gold loose shadow.
Love Radiance All-Over Face Color – (not swatched) A shimmery pink-gold blush/highlighter that will give you a slightly flushed glow that will look totally organic (or should I say orgasmic?).
XOX Charm – A hug-and-kiss keychain for you sentimentalists. Honestly, I found this to be the only disposable item in the kit. Apparently, XOX is Bare Minerals creator, Leslie Blodgett’s signature salutation. Starry-eyed, just like those crazy “Love is…” kids.
The most amazing thing about this kit is the $35 price tag! Take it from a fan, this is a bag of essential Escentuals. Wiith a total value of $78, it’s such a deal you can’t afford NOT to give this a try!
A testament to how much I love this Love & Happiness collection should be the most important occasion to which I wore most of the kit’s items: my very own wedding. Now that’s Love & Happiness!

The seems like a nice starter kit for someone just getting into makeup as well as the rest of us makeup lovers. Nice colors and nothing too scary or bold. Nice review @sherrishera
The BE folks sent me this kit too and I LOVE it. Oz eye shadow is one of my favorite greens so I was so happy to see it in a shadow version. I love how wearable all the colors are and how universally flattering this collection is as well.
That eye shadow is great, I assume it is sold outside of the kit as well? Its always my luck to get a kit of something, and the one product I love the most was only available with that kit.
I almost picked this up this weekend when I went into Bare Escentuals for my brow powder! The colors seem great for just about any skin tone and the charm is ADORABLE! Great review, @sherrishera, you make me sorry I passed this up! :-)
This kit is super cute. I agree with @LucyLemonade , it’s a great kit for a newcomer to makeup. That said, I find it (gasp!) a little boring. I’m not going to rush out to buy it, none of the colors or products are *must have* for me. I would totally grab it as an impulse buy or if I ended up somewhere with no makeup.
I love how it seems like it would work with any skin tone. I think this would make a great gift for a teen or young person just getting a feel for makeup!
I’m with Amanda… It’s a little boring. If you’re new to makeup and want a VERY VERY natural, no makeup look, and have never worn makeup before, I can see the appeal.
This isn’t super-natural–there’s a lot of shimmer in the primer as well as the eye shadow and the glimmeriffic all-over color. The last is a must-have and really gives a great glow. I’d say the effect of using this set on its own with some mascara is very 50’s movie queen (with modern sparkle)…especially if you do what I did and apply a super saturated matte lip color over the berry balm. Very Marilyn.
Actually, the shadow is matte gold but the affect with the primer is shimmery…
I’m not a huge fan of BE and loose shadows, BUT that primer looks pretty awesome. Between all of my UD Primer potions and samples that come with all the kits, I might actually need a new primer soon. Would love to check this out!
Love this, the colors are right up my alley too.
