Protect and preserve two precious jewels – your eyes
“The eye is the jewel of the body.”
Henry David Thoreau
I do try to take good care of my jewels. Eyes are important because they say so much about a person. When you look into someone’s eyes you can see their emotions, state of health, sleep deprivation level and even character. And let’s not forget, eyes are one body part that can betray your age (or those youthful days spent without sunscreen).
A great eye cream is one thing I cannot live without. While many of us have had to reprioritize in this economy, a nourishing eye cream is something I will not do without. Luckily for me, bareMinerals’ newest formulation Renew & Hydrate Eye Cream combines high end, eco-friendly moisture with a reasonable price.
And as a brand regularly featured in our Green Monday column, readers may already know that bareMinerals (the originators behind the mineral makeup trend) is based on the belief that what we put on our skin should be as pure, clean and natural as possible.
To that end, the formula of this hydrating eye cream, and all products in the bareMinerals skin care collection, is based upon the RareMinerals ActiveSoil Complex. This 100-percent pure compound is “extracted from nutritionally dense virgin soil” and has skin-renewing benefits, like “cell turnover, antioxidant protection while optimizing skins ability to absorb and retain moisture.”
Applying the Renew & Hydrate Eye Cream ($32) is easy because it has a great texture. The lush cream moisturizes without being too thick and heavy (like many creams this dense) or too thin and watery (like some serums and gels).
A few well placed dabs go on smooth and absorbs quickly; always important to me because it saves valuable time. I hate waiting for my eye cream to soak in before I can do my eye makeup.
Even more importantly, it doesn’t irritate my sensitive eyes. With consistent use I did see the fine lines around my eyes diminish. And it gets some well deserved bonus points as my concealer also went on much smoother with the use of this product.
Pros:
• Nourishing, yet quickly absorbed
• Reduces the appearance of fine lines
• Reasonably priced.
Greens:
• Formulated without parabens, synthetic fragrances and artificial oils.
Cons:
• A personal preference, but I prefer eye cream in a tube over a jar.

I’m a fan of bareMinerals cosmetics but have never tried their skincare line. I’m always on the lookout for a new eye cream, and this one sounds like a great basic option at a reasonable price, @hao9703 .
I highly recommend that you try BE skincare. I used to think of them as mainly a “color” brand and was FLOORED the first time I tried their skincare.
This eye creme is 4 stars for me.
I am a big fan of bareminerals. I use their mineral veil every day. I am certainly going to take a look at their e cream now as well. Great review Holly!!
Great review Holly :)
I also am a huge fan of BE, but haven’t tried their skincare products, until this one at least! I love this cream – not too greasy, and applies very nicely. @kellie76, I still have yet to try their mineral veil…on my list though!
4 stars from me for this product! :)
I haven’t tried any of BE’s skin care products yet. The line about “virgin soil” catches my eye- is there really such a thing as “virgin” soil in this world? Once you’ve started using the soil it’s not really virginal any more, so do you have to use a different spot for each batch? Heheh, I know it’s just marketing language but it makes my mind go crazy inventing all the different scenarios in which virginal soil could be found.
The photo of the cream looks absolutely wonderful! It’s strange how a good photo can really show the body and substantive nature of a thing. I think I’m going to have to get a sample to try the next time I’m in Sephora!
I was a big fan of Bare Minerals original skincare – Rare Minerals (which I don’t think is around anymore). They had a great eye cream in a tube called Active Triple Treatment, a powdered cleanser that was really unique and a moisturizer that was light, fresh and awesome. I’m guessing Bare Minerals new skincare is replacing that line (they both used “Active Soil”). So, I go in to this review with an existing love and slightly skeptical if this would be as good.
I’m happy to report that I like this eye cream quite a bit. It’s creamy, but light and not at all greasy. Absorbs quickly and leaves you looking hydrated. $32 is a great price too. BUT, I don’t like it as much as the Rare Minerals one, which felt lighter, smelled better and I loved the tube.
I think if you never tried the Rare Minerals, you’d like this – it is in fact a really good, reasonably priced eye cream. But me? I miss the original. 3 stars from me.
I’m a long time fan of bareMinerals cosmetics- granted I don’t use the line everyday, but it has been one that I reach for over and over each week. This eye cream is rather nice. I have sensitive skin and my eyes will sometimes let me know it after using certain products. When I applied this they seemed just fine! That’s a good start.. I also like the idea that it has the RareMinerals ActiveSoil Complex. I’m pretty much sold on good products made this way.. I actually said “Wow” to myself when I learned that it’s 100-percent pure compound is “extracted from nutritionally dense virgin soil” – what’s a selling point indeed.. So along with these skin-renewing benefits I’m a happy camper! This product is not pricey but feels like it is.. Unfortunitly, I never tried the Rare Minerals @stef, but would defintitly like to see this in a tube or pump for dispensing it.. Solid four stars from me..
