You’ve got a new BFF this summer!

Budge-proof eye makeup is essential for summer. From a windy New England day (where my eyes tear with each breeze) to the temperature climb (and the moist skin that goes along with it), you need a sturdy product. Benefit BADgal waterproof eyeliner ($20) has come out just in time to help!

Benefit is definitely a favorite with the wht team, from blushes, to liners, to lipgloss. I predict this eyeliner will soon be added to the list. BADgal previously came in jet black exclusively, until now. Benefit has added espresso and charcoal to please those searching for something a little less dramatic (again, perfect timing for summer!)

The liner glides on smooth with no drag. The addition of the smudge tip makes easy work of flipping the pencil and blending before this creamy liner sets. Smudging the liner underneath the lower lash line creates a soft look that’s perfect for day or use a thick line for more drama.

Receiving the neutral-friendly espresso shade was perfect. It’s a deep, coffee brown that makes my green eyes pop and is a nice change from the bright greens, blues and purples I usually choose.

I put this liner to the waterproof test. The first challenge was lasting through a workout. I went for a nice long walk and returned sweaty, but smudge free. Second test was accidental as I took a spontaneous nap and my liner still looked perfect after 3 hours (and I’m a side sleeper). No transfer on my pillow. My final test was walking the windy streets of downtown Portland, Maine for the weekend. BADgal didn’t budge and lasted the entire day and night without any need for touch-ups.

I’m always worried about waterproof make-up removing without having to scrub the delicate skin around my eyes. Luckily BADgal removed easily with a little cleanser and water. And quickly joined my bag of make-up essentials!

  1. The Brown looks really nice! And I get very watery eyes with my allergies. BadGal might be perfect for me. Nice!

  2. wow… Just reading the review makes me wanna grab one! The Espresso color is soooo pretty!

  3. The original jet black BADgal has long been my favorite liner, and honestly, I’ve never had a problem with it running or smudging. But your great review of these new colors has me really excited, @lucylemonade – charcoal must be mine!

  4. YES. Ever since I got a BADgal waterproof liner WAY back when, I’ve been in love. I’m fickle, so I haven’t been true to Benefit but I’ve yet to find a really perfect and waterproof black like my original BADgal.
I’m too addicted to my black liner, but if I were to color stray, it’d be with Espresso. It looks like a really nice deep color without being too dark.

Now if they’d come out with a deep purple or plum BADgal, I’d pass out from excitment….

    1. A plum would be awesome, it’s one of my favorite colored liners when I still want a neutral look.

    2. I *think* Benefit is rolling out a plum one soon (in the fall, I think.) I swear I saw it in one of the Benefit newsletter thingies in Ulta whilst I was having my brows tweezed (can’t have them waxed so I needed something to do). Don’t hold onto my word though; I may have been reading about BADgal waterproof mascara in PLUM that was right next to the eyeliner and my eyes switched everything (it doesn’t happen often, but it does).

  5. I have the liner in black, I got it as a prize a while ago and I’ve been wearing it nonstop. Seriously, I love this liner, would love to get the charcoal because I love that color when I don’t want something as severe as black. Plum would be awesome too!

  6. As a contact lens wearing, oily lidded, eye-rubber I soo need these waterproof liners. I could see me wearing the espresso shade everyday.

  7. The charcoal looks too light for me, but the black or espresso colors are enticing. $20 is a bit spendy, but if it’s really that good, it’d be worth it! I’m pretty picky about my eyeliner.

  8. I started with the jet black BADgal eyeliner and loved it! I have grey-ish blue eyes and only use eyeliner on my bottom lid, mostly because I have small top lids so when I put it on the top it looks like I colored the whole top lid! I thought i would try the espresso, assuming it would work as well. I got it and I am very dissapointed…it just doesnt stay on and barely even shows. I have yet to try the charcoal! This is a great eyeliner and I am the master at crying when I laugh and it does a EXCELLENT job not smearing. :)
