How’s your to-do list looking this week, folks? Might I suggest adding “running to Ulta and snagging some eye liner” to it? The latest offering from Cargo to beat the summer heat is their Swimmables waterproof eye pencil collection, designed specifically to survive through humidity, sweat and swimming, i.e. the summer.

The value set of liners includes 4 travel pencils, sure to fit your every mood and budget better than that swimsuit that you stuffed in a drawer last year and tried to block out the memory. The colors included are universally flattering and shimmery shades of gold, teal, royal blue and purple.

You get all four pencils for only $19—that’s about how much you would pay for one eyeliner pencil from any other high-end brand. This is a great value and a fabulous way to infuse some color into your makeup routine!

The tug-free pencils glide on smoothly and deposit a bold sweep of color that can survive a swim or your sweatiest activity. I didn’t go swimming in these, but I did dunk my face under my showerhead (I’m dedicated) and they stayed put. I gardened and still had most of this on when I finished. A humid day triggered my oily skin, so sadly these didn’t survive humidity on me.

I have oily lids, which is like wearing built-in makeup remover, so mine traveled after the better part of the day. I had a transfer line in the middle of the lid, but I still had a noticeable sweep of color at the lash line, which is fairly impressive for me.

Pros:
The colors are bold for summer, but still wearable for the rest of the year.
$19 for 4 pencils. That’s pretty doable for most budgets.
Waterproof & sweat-proof. These survived a shower and an intense gardening session in my new backyard.

Cons:
The darker colors go on wet, almost like a liquid. I suggest letting the pencil line to “dry” before fully opening your eyes after applying.
Very oily lids may experience some transfer.
You might have to hurry. These kits came out earlier in the summer and were quite the hit. If your local Ulta doesn’t have them anymore, try another – they’re worth the hunt!

What products do you gravitate towards in the months of summer? Am I the only one that rotates their makeup wardrobe at the same time I rotate my closet?

  1. Ooh @krista , I’m hoping my Ulta still has these in stock. What a perfect little kit for my summer travels. The colors are so pretty!

  2. Stunning colors too! Since I’m half fish and swim all the time I’m glad to hear about these. If Cargo Swimmables are waterproof, I’m in. Thanks for the review Krista!

  3. @krista – I love these, I received them as well. I just wish they were available in black or brown! They really do last forever, though. 5 stars from me.

    1. I agree about having more basic colors. I thought a shimmery charcoal grey would have been really fabulous :)

  4. @krista -Great review. This is just what I need for my travel bag. Is this product easy to get off? That is what is the catch 22 on some wonderful products like this–they are hard to get off.

    1. These came off with one of my basic makeup wipes–I use Olay. I know what you mean about some products that you basically need a jackhammer and a prayer to get off. These came off fairly easily.

  5. Wow, I love the marine blue and lilac colors! The blue looks sort of purple (is that how it looks in real life or was that the camera warping the color?)

I can’t remember if I saw this at my Ulta….I’ll have to check Tuesday whilst my mom has her Go and Glow Exfoliation. Ha ha ha!

  6. These look so pretty, and I’m certainly better with pencil liner than I am with liquid, but I worry that the “waterproof” claims won’t fly with me. My eyelids can get SUPER oily, and even with heavy duty primer the summer months can be death to eyeliner.
Then again, I think I have an Ulta coupon kicking around here somewhere, I think I can totally throw down for these eyeliners. Here’s hoping they still have ’em!

  7. I love these colors! This set would be a great gift for a girlfriend of mine too, she practically lives in peacock colors. Actually, make that 2 people I know. Darn now I have to find 3 sets of these!

  8. @hao9703–I don’t have any trouble removing these, and I use Clean & Clear’s makeup dissolving wipes.

I received these to test out, and loooove the colors! The teal and gold are my favorites of the four–the teal may be one of my favorite eyeliner colors EVER, actually. These shades are great for summer, and any time of the year really. The formula is very creamy, and applies very smoothly, although I think it may be a little bit too soft. I say this because after applying it, and then putting on mascara, I inevitably end up with little specks of eyeliner all over my face throughout the day. (Also frustrating–trying to wipe the specks off results in streaks of blue/teal/purple on my face). The lasting power is quite good, and the color stays vibrant all day. I’m a little sad that even with eyeshadow primer, and powder eyeshadow, Cargo Swimmables still transfer a little bit onto my upper lid. It isn’t a deal breaker, but it is a little annoying. The price is quite reasonable, especially if you want to just try out some fun colors and not commit to a full sized version. The color, price and staying power make this a five star product, but the issues with transfer and fallout (a rare problem for eyeliner!) can’t be overlooked. I give these liners 3 stars (I’d do 3.5 if I could).

  9. This set seems like an awesome deal! You would be surprised how long smaller pencils last you if you buy them in a set. I have so-so experience with pencils like these because my lids are on the oily side. Cute set though!

  10. Oh my gosh, how’d I overlook leaving my review on these? I LOVE THESE! Seriously, they rival UD’s 24/7. The same buttery consistency, the same long wear. Dare I say I might even like them better because they’re less glittery? I do, I dare to say that! They’re metallic, so they pack a lot of shimmer into them, but no chunky glitter. And the colors are gorgeous – bright, rich jewel tones that I’ve been reaching for again and again. The teal takes my breath away, really. And this is coming from a girl with about 10 different teal liners.

Their new set of Metallic liners looks very similar to this Swimmable set. And I absolutely need that too. As do you! 5 stars, without a doubt.
