Dermelect ME Peptide Infused Nail Color Treatmentsphotos: we heart this

What is the one beauty product that every female, from your five year old niece to your ninety year old granny, loves? Nail polish, of course. We all use it at some point; some of us, like me, use it compulsively. It’s such an easy, inexpensive way to embrace trends and add color to our lives.

What we don’t think about, though, are the nasty chemicals we might be adding to our lives, too. Most nail lacquers contain a laundry list of toxins. The effects of using them aren’t really understood, but I’m guessing the exposure can’t be good.

Dermelect Cosmeceuticals, a forerunner in the market for targeted, multi-tasking skincare, has created a worry-free solution: ME Peptide Infused Anti-Aging Nail Color Treatments, which combine fast drying shades, high shine and a healthy cocktail of vitamins, peptides and moisture. This lacquer is very different from your average nail polish.

Dermelect ME Peptide Infused Nail Color Treatments

Dermelect describes ME as the “first peptide-infused color treatment for fragile, weak nails.” According to Dermelect, the first coat of polish instantly bonds to the nail, then the second coat fuses with the first, resulting in a “flexible web of color that resists chipping and improves brittleness.”

There are six creme colors in the Summer 2012 ME collection ($14 each), although Dermalect promises more to come:

A hand with light cornflower blue nail polishAbove It – light cornflower blue

A hand with a vibrant orange nail polishHead Turner – vibrant orange

A hand with a hot pink with fuchsia nail polishProvocative – hot pink with fuchsia

A hand with a light milky pink nail polishPersuasive – light milky pink (they call this peach, but it looks more pink to us ~wht)

A hand with a bright red with pink undertone nail polishPower Trip – bright red with pink undertone

Red can be unforgiving as far as chips, so Power Trip, Dermelect’s signature red, actually shocked me with its staying power. Two coats on my toes would usually last a week, maybe. I’ve been wearing Power Trip for two weeks and there is not one single chip to be seen. On my fingers, Power Trip lasted a week before I needed a touch up, then didn’t chip or flake for another week after that.

A hand with a medium lilac nail polishLuxurious – medium lilac

The other ME Peptide Infused shade I tried, Luxurious, is a pretty lavender that goes on like a dream. One coat is kind of sheer and a tiny bit streaky; a second coat eliminated streaks and resulted in an opaque, creamy, shiny lilac. Like Power Trip, Luxurious seemed to cling to my nails, not chipping or cracking despite my daily abuse.

The consistency of these polishes is a little different– a bit thicker than the average nail polish. I found I couldn’t rush when applying the polish, but the extra care required was worth it when I saw the results: glossy, streak-free color that really did seem bonded to my nails. This didn’t make for difficult removal, though. When it was time to switch colors, the polish came off with a few swipes of remover. A marvel!

Pros:
Long lasting, high shine, bold colors
Restores nail flexibility
Helps nails resist chipping and splitting
Protects against UV rays
Free of chemicals and cruelty free, too

Cons:
Slightly thick formula (which results in a big Pro: extended wear time)

  1. First of all… did anyone else see the brand name “Dermelect” and think “Derelicte”… as in Zoolander? As in, “I can Dere-LICK my own balls!” Because I seriously laughed out loud just now thinking about it…. no? Just me?

Anyway, I want my polish to last about a week on my fingers, and maybe two weeks on my toes. However, I’m pretty hard on my hands and sometimes my polish chips just a day after I gave myself a mani! OPI typically gives me that length of wear, and China Glaze comes close. But Dermelect’s nail color is definitely a front runner. I like that it’s free of many nasty chemicals, and cruelty free as well, but most importantly, I’m impressed by the quality and the lasting power. I tested Head Turner, a gorgeous bright red-tinged orange that’s perfect for summer. It applies evenly and looks so pretty. The bottle is sturdy and has a standard but nice brush that makes application easy. $14 is a little on the high end of what I like to pay for nail polish, and I wish there were more colors, but I’m actually pretty impressed by this polish! Five stars.

  2. I love that lilac color and the pink/peach. Very bright and bold!

  3. I tested out the Provocative color. I loved the color, super bright and summery. I wore this nail polish during my little vacation. It lasted for a week and a day before it started to ware. I was super impressed because that week included a lot of sun and swimming. I will definitely purchase more of this brand in the future!!! $12 is way cheaper than a long lasting gel manicure and saves you a trip to the salon.

  4. The wear time on these polishes is nothing short of amazing, and the colors are bright and beautiful. I can’t wait to see what shades Dermelect comes up with for future releases. 5 stars!

  5. ReaderRita says:

I’ve heard rave reviews of their nail treatments, so I’m elated to see that they’re doing polish now. But, they seriously need to add a green. Seriously. Then I’m all over it.
(but I’ll probably go for the blue and orange right now!)

  6. These sound amazing. I LOVE Provacative, it looks so pretty! Glad to hear they have some staying power!

  7. Such pretty, summer colors and for a ‘good for you’ polish, the staying power IS amazing!
Sounds great, and great review @Turboterp!

  8. This polish is outstanding. I got to try Persuasive. It is a gorgeous pale pink!! And it wears like a dream. I had no chips for well over a week and even after that only needed minor touching up. And my nails are week right now after a crappy gel manicure. So it is a huge plus that this polish is a strengthener. This brand is tops in my book. I will absolutely purchase this polish in the future. 5 big stars!!!

  9. I’m so excited for a fall collection from them. I generally don’t wear too many bright colors so I couldn’t really justify spending $12 on a bright polish when I have so many other summery colors that need to get used. But fall is a whole different kitty cat. A beautiful navy or ruby creme or a deep black shimmer are my go to colors all season long & if I can find a beneficial formula that will last long and make my nails look better after wearing them, I can definitely justify the price

  10. Wow gorgeous colors and very on trend! I am really impressed to hear that this new line is long lasting with awesome formula!
