Fall into Sephora’s COLOR VISION for the season’s hottest hues
Honestly, I don’t think that there’s a sexier look than a classic black eyeliner. The humble black liner can create a simple and striking frame for the eyes or be piled on for an edgy, rock-and-roll look. From Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe to Debbie Harry and Madonna – they’ve all rocked a bold, black liner in their most iconic looks.
During my many years as a make up junkie, I’ve tried and tested them all – pencils, gels, pens, powders and liquids. So listen up black liner aficionados! Dior’s Style Liner in Noir Black deserves – nay, demands – a space on your vanity.
For starters, the name alone makes me swoon. While we can’t all have Dior in our closets, we can afford a little luxury in our makeup bags. Like most Dior creations, the Style Liner ($34) packaging is chic and sleek; a simple triangular tube of black and chrome, that stands upright (smart) when not in use, keeping the formula and brush primed for action.
But we can’t judge a product by packaging alone, and happily the formula lives up to its very stylish presentation (and beyond).
3 things to know about Dior Style Liner in Noir Black:
1. The brush is an artist’s dream; thin and flexible, attached to a short wand that allows precise application. It creates an impeccable pinpoint-thin line for timeless styles and can be layered for a thick and dramatic, hitting the clubs look.
2. The formula has a near perfect gel-like consistency – not too thin and not too thick. It glides over skin in a seamless, continuous line. While it does take some time to dry (a hair dryer on low helps it along), once it dries, it is there until you take it off.
I’m a contact lens wearing, oily lidded, eye rubber. Many days I’ve artfully applied my black liner only to see pools of black under my eyes when checking the mirror a few hours later. Not a problem with Dior. The inky black liner was smudge and budge proof on me, even during the hottest, most humid days of the year.
3. The color truly is the blackest of blacks. No soft or muted color here, Noir Black is a deep and intense black with just the subtlest hint of shine – like a brand new pair of Doc Martens, it’s the perfect black.
liner so black, as seen above – you almost don’t even need mascara!
we heartsters – if you’re a fellow black liner fiend, Dior must be your next fix!

Thanks so much for the review. I’ve been looking for liquid liner for so long and like you, I have oily lids and I do a lot of rubbing! $34 seems pretty pricey, but it’s so much better than having black smudges all over like a raccoon mask!
I so agree with this!
You raise two valid points @Annie ! This is pretty pricy for eyeliner AND it is kind of worth it for racoon-less eyes. After many years of makeup loving – and buying – I realized I was wasting money by buying one medium priced (but smudge-able) liner after the other. I probably have the value of two or three Dior’s in the form of inferior liners collecting dust on my vanity. It’s a splurge but (for me) worth it.
Now, I’m all about a good BLACK liquid liner! I love only a few out there, so thanks to this post, it’s next on my radar to try out.
Dior has got really nice cosmetics so from the looks of this baby, it just might be a must have! Thanks again for sharing this post!
Wow, that is a seriously inky black! I love how thick it looks, I tend to have trouble getting an even line with liquid eyeliners not because my hand is wobbly but because of an uneven application of product from the brush. A nice thick product like this looks to give the perfect line every time. And it’s Dior! *swoon*
I’m used to using a liquid liner pen but this one seems like a must try! I wear black eyeliner every single day of my life so hearing buzz about any spectacular ones is much needed:)
As a Dior addict in recovery– this eyeliner makes me swoon. Dior makes quality products and unlike some other brands- I have NEVER been sorry or had buyers remorse. I also love that you can now get it at Sephora.
You’re right @hao9703 – Dior is a fabulous and much appreciated addition to the Sephora line up!
LOVE how that liner looks!! I’m also a contact lens wearing, oily lidded, eye rubbing fiend. I’m generally too impatient/accident prone for liquid liner, but this Dior liner could sway me…
Wow, super awesome black!
Contact lens wearing, oily lidded, eye rubbing fiends unite! Hee @lipglossandspandex – I feel your pain.
I love your Doc Martens reference, @tyna , because I can picture exactly the type of black you’re describing, and it sounds perfect! I agree with all the comments above—this Dior liner will be well worth the price if I don’t end up with smudges around my eyes.
Holy black, Batman! That is some seriously inky liner. This fellow oily lidded/eye rubbing freak longs for a black liner that won’t budge. This made my short list of “Liners to Try”. Thanks for putting this on my radar, @tyna !
Honestly, having swatched every product in Sephora week I can say this was the inkiest liner of all. Liquid liner fans pretty much need this. Like, go now!
As a black liquid liner wearer for 20+ years, this is hands down my all-time favorite liner! It’s at the top of my makeup must-haves on my profile, even. Everything about it from the perfect brush to the jet black thin perfect line it creates is top notch and worth every penny. It is pricey, so I wait until that 20% Sephora discount comes out in the fall and buy a couple at a time. I’ve been without it for a month or so now and my eyes just aren’t the same. And I also am an oily-lidded, contact lense wearer who has zero troubles with this. And see that beautiful glow on Stef’s lid where the shadow is on top of the liner? That’s what you get with this – it’s a bonus that makes your liner really pop more so than with any other liquid liner I’ve tried. Love this stuff – PLEASE never stop making it Dior! (I’ve had a few companies discontinue their liquid liners over the years on me, but this has been going strong for awhile now). I’d give it 6 stars out of 5 if I could, and I hate when people go over 100%!
One more thing – it stays perfectly black all day long with zero smudging no matter what the weather conditions, yet it comes off completely and easily with only soap and water!
Fabulous review
…I wear black eyeliner only on waterline..is is waterline safee?
