There’s no way to sugar coat it: Eczema stinks. And it isn’t some rare condition that effects only a small portion of the population. It is estimated that over 35 million Americans have it. In fact, there’s a strong possibility that every person reading this post knows someone who suffers from it. Or perhaps, it’s even you.
Eczema is a general term for any type of dermatitis or “itchy rash”. There are varying types, ranging from itching and redness to more severe blistering, weeping and peeling. No matter the type, it’s no fun.
So what exactly is happening to your skin? Atopic Dermatitis, the most common type of eczema, “affects the skin’s barrier function; the ability to keep moisture in and irritants out. It also disturbs the formation of natural skin oils and reduces sweat secretion. As a result, skin loses moisture and can eventually become so dry that it cracks and fissures develop, allowing bacteria and irritants to penetrate the skin and possibly cause infection.” (per Eucerin)
My cousin and his son both suffer from it. And let me tell you, though theirs is on the mild side, suffer is the right word. Besides just general embarrassment and sometimes skipping out on plans when they have a flair up, there are times when they literally can’t sleep because it itches so badly.
If this is how it is for you or someone you know, Eucerin wants to help. And with over 100 years of skincare experience, you should let them! They’ve recently introduced a line of products specifically designed to relieve Eczema symptoms. They are:
Eucerin Eczema Relief Instant Therapy – clinically proven to immediately soothe and calm the dry itchy skin caused by eczema and provide long-lasting itch relief. Its moisturizing formula protects and fortifies the skin barrier, improving the appearance and overall skin condition. It is appropriate for adults, children and babies. The formula is free of dyes, fragrance, and steroids, and gentle for use on eczematic skin.
Eucerin Eczema Relief Body Crème – clinically proven to significantly improve hydration, improve the appearance of red, irritated skin and relieve itchiness of eczema.
Keep in mind, these are not a cure, but a relief to the symptoms. And if you have Eczema – you know relief is a good thing!

Great post @stef! You know I’ll be looking into this one because, I have mild to moderate eczema! I really do think Eucerin puts out an awesome product. Unfortunately, I have always had dry, sensitive skin. But glad for such great products to help remedy that! It’s been many years since I first went to the dermatologist because of it and even then, this line was one of the recommendations.
I have no tips, but serious sympathy. My best friend growing up suffered with it and let me tell you, the teen years are not the time to have rough, flaky skin. I’m so glad relief for some can be found over-the-counter!
I’ve had sporadic bouts of eczema on my hands and once under my eye (eek), and even a mild case is itchy hell. The prescribed treatment, topical steroids, can thin the skin permanently, and who wants that? Luckily, I’ve found that keeping my skin moisturized, especially with products containing oatmeal, virtually eliminates flare ups. Even regular Eucerin is amazingly effective, so I’ll be checking out this special eczema line for sure!
My mom has eczema and only recently started using products for it because she said everything exacerbated it for the longest time. I’ll have to recommend these specially targeted cremes for sure!
Having suffered from eczema on my fingers for years now, I jumped at the chance to evaluate this body cream by Eucerin.
While I do not have eczema, There are times when I just need a little something more for hydration and irritation. I like to take a lot of hot baths and this is just what my body needs especially in winter.
I get random episodes of eczema and it is NO FUN. There’s no cure, and that sucks. Being proactive is key–and moisturizing RIGHT AFTER I shower or wash my hands helps a ton.
