The Hunger Games

To be honest wht readers, I originally planned to make this Etsy 4 for Friday about the Royal Wedding, but my feelings on the matter can be measured in one word; meh. I mean, I love going to weddings, and I’m interested in seeing the dress, but I’ve spent most of my spare time this week engrossed in a complete reread of Hunger Games Trilogy.

As an avid reader of anything I can get my hands on and a YA fan (I help put the adult in the Young Adult genre) I can not recommend this riveting, fast paced trio of books enough. It’s the story of Katniss, a young girl living in a postapocalyptic world where the almost decimated human race lives a bleak, hard existence. Well, unless you live in the Capital District where luxury and opulence abounds. Oh and the Capital also demands two children “tributes” from each of the other Districts tossed into The Hunger Games, a televised arena where they must fight to the death, until just one emerges victorious.

While the label may be YA, the plot, themes and ideas presented (on love, family, war, even reality tv) are thought provoking for readers of any age. In my Hunger Games reading frenzy, I turned to Etsy to see what their community could do with this captivating story:

My favorite item is this fantastic Panem Tourism Poster. I have a thing for vintage travel posters and the only thing better is one from the future! This print measures 12 X 18 inches, is printed on heavyweight archival paper with a white border for framing and has been “defaced” by the rebel’s symbol – the mockingjay. $15

Did I mention the love triangle? It’s YA, there’s always one! If, like me, you fall on the side of Team Peeta, you’ll smile over the In Her Pocket Necklace. The piece is “inspired by what Katniss carries in her pocket to keep Peeta close to her….his gift, the pearl…and a District 13 handcuff key.” Aww. $17.50

You can keep The Hunger Games close to you while reading just about anything with the mockingjay bookmark. The gold plated bookmark and chain charm features a bow and arrow, a gold bee, a clock, a loaf of bread, a fire, berries, and a gold mockingjay symbol. $28

Don’t worry Gale fans, I didn’t forget you. If you are pine for Gale and Katniss, you may want to check out the Heart Trapper Necklace . This clever piece was “inspired by Gale’s trapping abilities and District 12’s coal mining industry” and features a coal black, 14mm Swarovski Crystal Heart trapped in a sterling silver plated wire wrapping. $25.50

  1. Love, love, love that bookmark!!! But I read most of my books on my kindle now :( I wonder if I could get a Hunger Games sticker for it? Hmm…. I’ve been really wanting to re-read the books for a couple of weeks, even since I heard about the casting for the movie. You’re certainly motivating me to get on with it.

    1. @pinkshaya – that’s exactly why I reread the series! When I started hearing the casting news I called up @stef (who I had forced the books upon six months ago) and demanded she return the series the next time she came into town. It was all I could do not to go buy another set before she came for a visit!

And this shop, Faboolux has vinyl decals – a few of them might fit on a kindle.

  2. @tyna is like my own personal library. But a library that makes recommendations based on past preferences! She called it: I loved the Hunger Games series. Can’t wait to see it on the big screen. Hope they don’t mess it up…

  3. I want to read these books so bad! I just got an ipad recently…maybe I need to start downloading books? I should…

  4. just wanted to say that I started reading Hunger Games and I am officially HOOKED!

    1. Yay! It’s one of those books – completely sucks you immediately and won’t let go until you finish. Enjoy!

  5. I also had a chance to read the book and I still have a hangover until now
