Do you know why they added the “Super” to the “Model” and made them “Supermodels”? (Think Tyra, Bridget, Heidi, Josie). Because not only are they tall, thin and beautiful–they usually think of profound, world-changing products or services in their downtime. Where would the world be now without Heidi Klum’s addicting Project Runway? Or Tyra Banks’ talk show; and let’s not forget ANTM -America’s Next Top Model, for those of you living under a rock. (We still mourn Cindy’s House of Style on MTV ~wht) Today, we want to introduce you to supermodel turned entrepreneur Josie Maran who proclaims “I’m going to change the world one lipstick at a time.”
The beautiful and talented Josie Maran has descended from the Supermodel Deity pedestal to bring us her own line of eco-friendly, but high quality cosmetics. “The Josie Maran Cosmetics look is healthy, natural, and vibrant. It’s about enhancing, not covering. It’s about youthful, glowing skin.” To that end, Josie’s line is pure and natural, free of synthetics and full of organic, botanical ingredients. She makes it easy to see just what is (or isn’t) in your makeup with her handy icon labeling on her chic, made from recycled materials and biodegradable packaging.
Best of all, Josie made sure users of her line would never have to sacrifice style or quality in pursuit of a green lifestyle. This “luxury with a conscious” philosophy is visible in the entire naturally-elegant and carefully-edited line. This unpretentious yet luscious collection is full of flattering colors and gentle formulas to work for a large range of skin tones and types.
“What most women don’t realize is that when models and actresses look fresh-faced and makeup-free, its because they know how to apply their makeup to make it look that way…I’ve seen how makeup can make a person feel great. I want to share that with women everywhere.” Do you not just want to be Josie’s BFF right now? I know I do.
The lucky ladies of the wht review team received Josie’s Plumping Lip Gloss
in Daring described as a sheer shimmering rosy nude to give a test run. This gloss uses gentle Marine Collagen to plump (as opposed to the irritants found in other formulas) and gives a little tingle to the lips, while organic Argan oil works to soothe and and repair skin. Translation: this gloss has a bit of a kick, but without any itchiness or irritation.
I thought this plumping gloss gives a super-shiny, not sticky gloss that does NOT leave your lips feeling dry when you’re done! It has long lasting formula that is great for a daytime or office look (and shades like Bravery and Optimism will rock your more glam, evening style). A full 30-day use will leave you with some more permanently full and luscious lips.
Testers – did the Josie Maran Plumping Lip Gloss add some eco-conscious, supermodel worthy style to your look?
As a make up obsessive that strives to buy organic and eco conscious products who also has rather thin lips (the bottoms fine, but the top lip needs a little help) I was so excited to try Josie Maran’s Plumping Lip Gloss. I stopped using lip plumper’s after they started to irritate my skin more than plump my lips. My lips totally felt that “it’s working” tingle but it didn’t have any ill effects on my skin or make me itch. I also see a teeny bit of plumpness in my lips (especially that pesky upper) a few minutes after application. I found the color Daring really nice – it’s defiantly fairly sheer, but gave my lips a nice pink flush with a hint of sparkle and lots of shine when worn alone and it can be applied over any other lip product as an almost nude, clear shine that adds some oomph thin lips.
The scent is described as dulce de leche; it’s a tad to bakery sweet for me, but in no way overpowering. Overall, I found this gloss was a tad thinner in consistency then other glosses, and I think it would work better with a sponge ended applicator, as opposed to the brush. But the gloss wears well and left my lips feeling moisturized instead of dry after a few hours. For the shine and plumpness factor, plus the biodegradable packaging and pretty nude color, I’m giving this 4 stars.

Let me just say that back in the day, when Josie Maran modeled for another cosmetic company, I would literally buy whatever items they put on her in order to recreate her looks—perhaps the optimist in me thought that maybe a certain lipstick would make me look that drop dead gorgeous. A girl can dream :) I was really excited to try the plumping lipgloss from her own cosmetic line. I will say the color is that perfect “your lips but way, way better” shade w/ some subtle shimmer—it was just the right amount of color and shine that it left me with a very polished look. The scent was downright decadent. It even had a slightly sweet taste to it, which I have to say I love way more than the weird, chemically taste many glosses have b/c it’s inevitable that some of it is going to end up in your mouth. My only complaint is that the plumper doesn’t agree with my sensitive skin. I have a long history of plumpers going horribly awry on me. This one burned, stung, and then the skin around my mouth got red and irritated. It’s just my standard allergic reaction to most plumping glosses I’ve tried. I think it’s because many of them use marine collagen and I’m severely allergic to shellfish and some marine collagen is made from shellfish. I’ll have to stick to plumpers that use different ingredients to give fuller lips because marine collagen isn’t my friend. I’m really sad, too, because the color and scent and everything else are fabulous. If you’re allergic to shellfish, you might want to steer clear or test it on your inner forearm before you put it on your lips to see if you’ll have a negative reaction. 4 stars from me because it would be perfect if not for my shellfish allergy.
I want to try this stuff! Where can I get it? Sephora? Ulta?
Ok, you want the good news or bad news first? Good? Ok…The color is really beautiful. Shimmering Rosy Nude is a perfect description. A tad of glitter too, but in a tasteful amount. It looks darker in the tube than it does on your lips, It’s a pretty sheer formula. Also on the good side, it wears for a long time but isn’t super sticky. But the bad news…the taste is pretty terrible (at least for me). It’s kind of sickening sweet. So much so that I usually needed to wipe it off my lips. The taste did lessen in about 10 minutes, but I usually didn’t make it that long. I wasn’t crazy about the smell either. It’s got a slight play doh undertone to the scent.
I wanted to like this, I really did. But the taste and scent were dealbreakers for me. Sorry Josie!

I used to really enjoy plumpers but like Tyna they started to irratate my skin and I stopped using them. I got to test out this plumper in Daring. I love the color. It just gives your lips that extra omph without being overly sparkly. The plumper was didn’t do anything for me, I got a slight tingle but didn’t notice a plumper pout. I do however continue to wear this because I really really like the color. The smell is like vanilla cupcake batter. I don’t mind it, I do however have a very strong craving for Vanilla cupcakes all the time. Strange that it doesn’t tast like it smells. I’m going 4 stars because of the non-plumping. I’ll check out other colors no matter what because I like how this wears. I also like that the brush bristles haven’t spread apart. For as often as I use this, I would have thought it would have started to splay out. It didn’t and that make me smile.
