Ladies: Don’t let THIS happen to your feet!

photos: we heart this

It happens to the best of us. You’re late into the wee hours of a night on the town, looking great and feeling even better…when suddenly you just can’t take one more single step in those killer high heels. So off come the shoes and you spend the rest of night barefoot and braving the sticky dance floors, wet grass or (worse of all) the hazards of any city sidewalk.

Exhibit A: The image above of a very sleepy Stef and her very dirty feet after a night in Las Vegas. At our last stop of the night, her feet decided they had had enough of her sparkling, towering heels and off they went. I still shudder to think just what she may have stepped in while walking back to our hotel on the Vegas Strip.

Happily, hosiery specialists Kushyfoot has an easy and affordable solution to the painful shoe vs. bare foot dilemma with their ingenious little Flats To Go.

These soft and flexible ballet style flats are packaged in a clear little plastic carrier with handles that can be slipped into your purse for shoe emergencies. The next time your feet are aching, your toes are all scrunched up or a blister appears; pull out this pair of faux leather flats and keep going.

I can’t wait to pull my Flats To Go ($9.99) out this holiday party season. These comfy black flats feature an elastic back for a nice snug fit and a “unique, 3-dimensional wavy sole” that cushions and massages feet as you walk. Plus the soles are sturdy enough to handle both indoor and outdoor surfaces – even the Vegas Strip.

And these flats not only comfort my aching feet, they are also stylish solution. Ballet flats have been all the rage these last few years and are still going strong. Available in various colors and prints, I adore the solid black for their subtle touch. I’ve slipped these babies on while visiting the ladies room and no one ever noticed!

In addition to the Flats to Go, our review team had the chance to check out a few items from the Kushyfoot hosiery catalog, including:

Lace Foot Covers ($3.99) – low cut socks that cover and protect the soles of your feet while giving the look of bare legs.

Microfiber Crew Socks ($3.99) – These crew socks feature a comfort roll top band for a non-binding fit and special Coolmax fiber to wick moisture, as well as a knit-in cushioned sole.

we heartsters, if you plan on wearing a few gravity defying heels this season, I suggest you slip a pair of Flats To Go inside your evening bag.

  1. I did the EXACT SAME THING in Vegas. Now I caution everyone that no matter how cute their shoes are, make sure they are comfortable, otherwise you’ll be stabby by the end of the night.

I love the idea of these and it makes me happy to know that they are comfy to boot! (Some of the other brand of these are just as uncomfortable as the heels are, just in different ways.) I can’t want to hear what everyone has to say about them! This should be a stocking stuffer for your girlfriends…

  2. @stef – I love that you share everything us here on WHT! I can’t tell you the number of friends who leave the house with high heels and NEVER WANT TO ADMIT that their shoes are killing them.

Personally, I need to pick up a pair of these. Sadly, when I am short on time for work and I have to do a lot of walking and hauling I put on tennis shoes and then change into “fancy” shoes right before my event. These would help me look a bit more put together.

  3. @stef – I am pretty sure you stepped into a puddle of hepatitis. :)

I so need these…I rarely wear heels, but when I do, we always seem to park a mile from our car or have to trek for what seems like miles. I get like a cranky toddler if my feet hurt, but I’m still vain enough to still wear heels when the occasion calls for it. I think I should pick up a pair of these to keep in my glove compartment, just in case. Or have the hubby start exercising his bad back so he can just give me piggyback rides everywhere…*ponders*

    1. @krista – omg, puddle of hepatits is such a funny (and disgusting) visual!

    2. Krista, that is HILARIOUS AND GROSS!!! :P And that’s why I never go barefoot…

I looove wearing heels, but it seems like the times we have to park farthest are the times that my shoes are the least comfortable! I like that these kushyfoot flats are affordable and can easily fit in my purse (which is like Mary Poppin’s bag I swear). And I agree with Alyssa–they’re a really practical gift/stocking stuffer!

  4. I cannot wear high heels even if I wanted too.. bad back Blaaaaaahh!
But my dogs kill anyway regardless whenever I walk on them too much or long.. I have a pair of Flats to go.. these little numbers are great and they are like wearing slippers. I have them stored in my pocketbook for whenever the need arises! I love to go around barefoot most of the time, so my feet can look like @stef‘s without even thinking about it! You need to get a pair of these.. especially if you are hard on your tooties! Cute too, right! Five stars!

  5. I rarely wear high heels, but when I do I usually pull a @Stef and end up going barefoot by the end of the evening. I typically wear boots a lot in the winter and most have some sort of heel on them. I knew the lace foot covers I was sent would be perfect to test with some of my favorite boots that really hurt my feet by the end of the day. The covers have a nice soft cushion right on the balls of your feet for added comfort. The size I was given to test was a 5-9. I’m an 8 1/2 and these felt snug on me. The elastic dug into the back of my heel after only wearing just a short while. I think if they had not been so tight, I would have really loved these. Instead, I had a hard time keeping them on for any length of time because of the elastic around the heel really became bothersome. While I love the idea of these, unfortunately they didn’t work for my foot. I think if they came in more sizes that fit my foot better, I would have really liked these. 3 stars…great concept, but just didn’t work for my foot.

  6. Gather ’round for my tale of barefoot woe!

A few years back I was in San Francisco and doing some sight seeing. I had on a super cute pair of flats, but they obviously weren’t meant for me after a few hours. (I have incredibly low set ankles, so that ruins a lot of shoes for me.) Rather than tear my ankles up I decided to go sans shoes. Lucky for me, SF is the cleanest city I’ve ever been to! I happily tromped about in relative comfort when my friend, a lovely German gentleman, decided that he just *had* to see the Golden Gate bridge and walk across it. “Okay!” I too happily agreed.
Here is where you should note that the bridge is NEVER in shade.
So yep- over and back across the bridge. Massive 2nd degree burns on my feet. Walked back to where we were staying. Couldn’t wear shoes for a few weeks. Fun times! The German likes to proudly tell people “she never complained! I didn’t even know until I saw the bottoms of her feet.”

Moral of the story- soft shoes like Kushyfoot are my savior! I’ve had a pair in my bag ever since. Love ’em!

    1. OUCH! And I thought squished toes were bad.

  7. That photo is hilarious and disgusting! The poor white bedspread! I love the idea of toting these in my bag for emergencies. Honestly, I will let shoes create giant blisters on my feet before I’ll walk barefoot in most places. That’s probably worse for me than dirty feet would be! Kushyfoot ballet flats are now on my shopping list.

  8. So, as you can see from the above photo – I desperately needed the flats to go! While they are a lifesaver, and absolutely genius, they kind of feel like you’ve put a shower cap on your feet. They feel very plastic-y, and the elastic band around the back adds to that feeling. I really wish they felt a bit more like shoes. I’m giving them 3 stars, with a material upgrade these have the makings of a 5 star product.

    1. You’re right @stef, a bit of material upgrade and these would be the best thing since sliced bread! Nontheless, they would have been just what you needed for short periods to get you to your resting place.. as seen above!

  9. I don’t have the Kushy Foot ones but I have a different brand and they are amazing. I use them all the time!

  10. I received those lacy foot covers. They’re more cushiony than a sock, and definitely much cuter. I like wearing these with flats and I don’t even mind if they poke out a little! The only “Con” is that these are so easy to lose. I guess the “where do all the socks go?” question is timeless but these little guys do seem to disappear quicker. Good thing is that, at this price point, I could buy a bunch (and am going to have to).

  11. So what do you do with the smelly, painful heels once you switch?

    1. Try to remember to bring them home! Although you don’t really care because your feet feel so much better. I try to stash them somewhere, or toss them in a bag, someone’s car, etc.

      Thanks for the comment @dehen13!

  12. I can’t believe I missed this post – absolutely hilarious, and disgusting, and I can unfortunately identify – except my barefoot trudge was through the streets of Detroit one summer – you don’t even want to know what they looked like! Now I live in crocs so that will never happen again. Anyways, I wish I could’ve tried the flats to go – they sound promising. I tried the Microfiber Crew Socks, and they didn’t work for me at all =^(. I thought they were very uncomfortable – tight to the point where they felt like what I imagine to be compression socks…yet, they still rolled down too, so the comfort band at the top did me no good. I didn’t notice any massaging from the padded sole, either. They also claim to wick away the moisture from your feet, but mine felt a little extra sweaty wearing them! Basically I couldn’t wait to take these off and put some fluffy slippers on. It’s a great idea and I wanted to love them, but they sure didn’t work for me…two stars (one for the idea at least!)

  13. I ‘enjoyed’ reading all the comments on this post. Ouch! I’ve been carrying a pair of Flats to Go in my purse for the past several years now, they have saved my tender feet on numerous occasions. Lucky for your readers I’m giving away a pair of Zebra Flats to Go on my blog. Please take a minute and leave me a comment for your chance to win. Good Luck! ♥ Silke

  14. My wife packs them with her whenever we travel. Don’t leave home without them!
