Need a fab blush? NARS has the cure with Boys Don’t Cry.

“This collection is killer – you are going to love it. Quote me.” This is a handwritten note on the inside of my NARS Pierre Hardy press samples that arrive. And you know what? She couldn’t have been more right. And now I want you to quote me. “Boys Don’t Cry may just be the most beautiful blush I’ve ever seen.”

Boys Don’t Cry is one of two blushes and six nail polish duos that make up the limited edition Pierre Hardy launch that is based on the designer’s 2013 shoe collection. And with all it’s got going on, it was destined to be a classic in my eyes. Allow me to break it down, pro and con style.

Pros:
Get ready, there’s a lot of them…

Texture and Wear
NARS blushes are always silky, easily blendable and wear like true champs. And this is one of the most pigmented blushes to pass by my desk in quite awhile.

Unique Color
Boys Don’t Cry is described as a pink grapefruit, which is a accurate description. Imagine the pinkiest, juiciest grapefruit you ever ate. It’s that; a deep yet bright reddish pink with a matte finish.

Size
Bigger is better when you are paying $41 for a blush. The Boys Don’t Cry compact measures 3.5″ x 2.75″, even larger than the typical NARS blushes (which are already big.)

Bells and/or Whistles
Specialty packaging or something unique about the product itself just floats my boat. Always. For Boys Don’t Cry it’s Pierre Hardy’s cube print debossed into the blush’s surface.

Limited Edition
Some may call this a con. Some may also call me crazy, but the mere fact that I will be unable to buy this one day only makes me want it more.

Bonus Pro
I have no idea if this is true, but in my head this is named after The Cure song.

Cons:
Because even with blush perfection, a bit of rain must fall…

Overspray
Don’t get too attached to that gold shimmer that fills the debossed areas, it disappears with one swipe.

Price
Though I’d argue that it’s well worth it, $41 is a lot to spend on one blush.

NARS Pierre Hardy boys don't cryApplied heavy and with just ONE swipe, that pigment’s no joke!

If you’re a blush addict (and even if you’re not) I highly recommend you scoop up Boys Don’t Cry before it’s gone. So you won’t be the one whose crying!

  1. Wow, that is a big compact… it dwarfs your hand! Gorgeous color, too.

  2. Wow, something that big and pigmented is going to last a lifetime. It’s beautiful! And a great value.

  3. I’m not a blush addict, mine always lasts FOREVER, but this is really pretty. REALLY pretty. I might be tempted if that overspray was part of it, it would be SO pretty with the gold sparkle.
That said, this would be completely worth it if it’s a color that looks great on you, that packaging is HUGE!!!

  4. What a pretty product! I agree with your comments on the price, but it is huge and that geometric design sells itself. It’s a shame the gold tone doesn’t stick around. I feel like it would add a nice warmth to the color if it were part of the powder too.

  5. Oh my . . . pink grapefruit . . . limited edition . . . Who cares if BOYS cry . . . I’m sure all of the NARS fans out there will cry if they don’t get a crack of this one.

I really want to see it in person before I commit!!

  6. The price is a killer! But the color looks amazing!! I love that it can be applied boldly or in a more subtle fashion. I am going to have to swatch this one in person to make sure that it would work for me. From here it looks insanely good!!

  7. Wow, that’s enormous! NARS, The Boys Don’t Cry compact looks pretty amazing.. Who can use that much blush? I bet it lasts till the cows come home! I don’t ever recall seeing such a big compact. Pretty pigment though, that’s for sure.

  8. I have to agree that sharing the same name as a Cure song is a major pro! I love the unique color of this but with my fair skin I’m afraid it would be a tad too dramatic. Beautiful design!

  9. Mama wants *whines, whimpers* :(
I can’t drop that much on one blush, though. Can’t do it.
    But I wanna.

  10. Holy cow that’s a huge blush pan! While I love the looks of it, it imagine that it might be hard to stash away in the average vanity and it would take up a lot of space when traveling or otherwise packing a makeup bag. But still! It’s fantastic. The only thing that could make it better- forget overspray, we want the golden thread throughout!

  11. GAHHHH I’ve been trying so hard to resist this! I don’t need an oversized expensive blush… but oh it’s beautiful. If Stef loves it that much, I may have to just suck it up and shell out the cash :)

  12. The price is making me cry, but it is so unbelievably beautiful–moreso on your arm than in the package (hard to believe, but true). Pink grapefruit? Say no more . . .

  13. If it came in the regular blush size, I’d buy it in a heartbeat. But for $41…? I’ll hold on for a sale!

    1. If you EVER see a NARS sale, let us know! That could be dangerous. :)
