Philip Kingsley Re-Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner photos: we heart this

I have a love/hate relationship with my hair. Being an Asian woman, I’ve had many a hairstylist swoon over my thick dark locks. But I’ve also struggled with the coarseness and unruly natural wave of my hair. On a great day, my hair looks voluminous and full of body. On a bad day, it’s frizzy, thick and dry. Luckily companies like Philip Kingsley exist to help people of all hair types achieve a beautiful head of hair.

This UK based company created by trichology expert Philip Kingsley, who’s been referred to as “The hair doctor” by The New York Times, offers an array of hair products designed to harness the natural aspects of every type of hair to ensure your hair is healthy and treated correctly.

Their London and New York clinics offer professional services in trichology (simply, the science of hair) to diagnose and treat hair issues. Philip Kingsley knows that a healthy head of hair is not only indicative of overall health and well being, but also essential in promoting ones own self esteem and confidence.

Can’t get to a clinic? No worries, their products can be purchased online using the various guides they offer to find the right product for you. You’ll be happy to know the brand can be found on amazon as well.

Re-Moisturizing Shampoo

I received the Re-Moisturizing Shampoo ($22) and the corresponding conditioner to test. I’ve been using both products for a couple of weeks and I couldn’t be happier with the results!

Not only does the shampoo have a lovely, light scent reminiscent of rose water, but it actually made my hair smoother, shinier and it feels healthier! Maybe it’s the specialized formula that uses Cocobetaine for a very gentle and thorough cleanser, while Hydrolysed Elastin improves strength and helps hair retain water. My regular shampoos always left my hair feeling dry and frizzy. Now I know that those brands are probably too harsh for my hair type.

Re-moisturizing conditioner

Combine the shampoo with the powers of the Re-moisturizing conditioner ($28), which boasts wheat proteins; and my hair was silkier, easier to comb and had very little frizz!

Thanks to Philip Kingsley, I’ve seen a significant improvement in my hair’s condition and find that my normally frustrating natural wave is now sleeker, more supple, and actually looks good!

Pros:
Nice Scent
Helps smooth and control that frizz!

Cons:
Cost
Contains propylparabens

I have to give thanks to the Hair Doctor for creating a fantastic formula that seems to work wonders on my hair. While the Re-moisturizing shampoo and conditioner is said to work well for Asian hair, it is geared towards anyone with coarse, wavy, curly, or frizzy hair. I’m very curious to see what the rest of the team thought of Philip Kingsley shampoo and conditioner.

  1. @kari – Great run down of this product! I have to admit I was apprehensive when I received this product to test. I have thick, sometimes wild hair and a sensitive scalp, that does not hesitate to start shedding and flaking if it is not happy. My hair really responded to the shampoo and conditioner. I am not sure if it was sleeker but, it was more “compliant” and seemed to really respond to my normal hair routine.
(This is a major victory in my book.)

Take note sensitive scalp readers: I did not have any scalp irritations.
    4 stars for me.

    1. “Compliant” is a good way to describe the effect of this product! My hair was much more manageable after using this.

  2. Thanks for the review! Do you think this will work for fine Asian hair? My locks are really fine and limp and I’ve been on the lookout for a shampoo and conditioner that will work

    1. I think the shampoo would work well on finer Asian hair. It’s very gentle and won’t over dry. You should check out the “shop by hair type” option on the site. It will break down products they offer not only for fine hair, but by length, any color treatments, etc. They seem to have a product for everyone!

  3. I’m giving this one five stars. I’m still impressed by how good my hair looks when I use it. I switch now and then between this and my other brand of shampoo and there is a noticeable difference. Frizz is OUT OF CONTROL on days I use my other shampoo, and I end up having to use more styling products to control the unruliness which causes more build up and weighs my hair down.

Definitely going to keep Philip Kingsley on my list of favorite brands.

  4. Philip Kingsley Re-Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner has a new friend in me.. I enjoyed reviewing this and I was so happy with the results on my crazy hair! My hair is going gray so it can be frizzy and SUPER wild if not worked into submission! I have even tried several Keratin treatments in the past to help my hair look better.. but that is only a temporary fix. My hair is not too thick but its not thin either and I have a lot of it.. This shampoo and conditioner worked well to temper my hair. I have noticed a big difference in the hair itself. It looks stonger.. leaving it very smooth, shiny and easy to style and control. We should be taking before and after pictures! I would really like to try some of the scalp treatments as well. I give these two products an easy five stars!

  5. I am always trying new shampoos so I will definitely have to check this one out, especially since my hair can get out of control fast! Also glad to hear they make a color treated shampoo.

  6. Can I just say something so simple that I love about this set before I go into the product? How about that LARGE “shampoo” written on the side of the bottle? I can’t tell you how many times I have to pick up a bottle and bring it practically to my nose to see through the steam which one I have in my hands. LOVE this!

And the shampoo and conditioner? Love them too. They got a nice scent; not too floral, not foodie, just a classic shampoo scent that I associate with clean hair. And feel really luxurious; tons of bubbles with the shampoo, nice and thick with the conditioner. My comb seems to go through my hair easier, and once dried – my hair actually did look healthier immediately (so I’m believing that it IS really re-moisturizing my hair!)

Good stuff all around, 5 stars.

    1. Great point @stef! I agree with you on the large print. I’m going blind fast and small print is NOT my friend at all. It is nice not to have to search for which ever the product is! I also like the flip off top verses an open top or small spout for dispensing.. The only thing I would like to see is that this would be paraben and sulfate free product.

  7. I was super lucky to test out Philip Kingsley Re-Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner and I’m in love!
I echo the many sentiments that my hair is more compliant, far smoother, and much easier to style. When using the shampoo I was please with the thick, luxurious lather. Sometimes moisturizing shampoos can be a little thin in the lather department because the saponification of ingredients tends to make them a bit drying. When rinsed out I noticed that my hair felt different. Most shampoos leave me with the “squeaky” clean feeling, but Philip Kingsley left my hair clean but soft. Great!
The conditioner was different from any I’ve ever used. Most conditioners feel like they coat my hair. Not a bad thing, mind you. Philip Kingsley Re-Moisturizing conditioner started to coat my hair, but then came the difference- my hair actually seemed to *soak up* the conditioner, like applying lotion to skin. When rinsed out my hair felt soft but not waxy or weird, and there was no weird residue left on my skin like can happen with other moisturizing treatments.
My only complaint was the smell. The shampoo was great, a soft true rose smell. But the conditioner? It was… weird. Not floral, not food, but strangely chemical. Almost like the smell of the chemicals used to apply a perm. It’s kinda unpleasant, but I can overlook it for these results.
Overall I give the Philip Kingsley Re-Moisturizing line 4 stars, one removed for smell and price. Definitely a re-buy!
