Who says you have to pick just one shade?

Stila Lip Glaze Setphotos: we heart this

I don’t know about you, but I always seem to have a difficult time choosing just the right color for lips. When I’m shopping for a lip shade, I can never make up my mind. Fortunately, Stila has found the remedy for this obviously very serious problem.

The Stila Lip Glaze Set ($25) is here to solve all of our lip gloss quandaries. The beauty of this collection is that you never have to choose which color to purchase. Stila gives us an amazing range of eight beautiful colors in one set.

Stila Lip Glaze Set

With the perfect mix of permanently popular and LE hues, this set provides us with a dizzying array of color choices. The Stila 2011 Holiday Lip Glaze set includes four top selling shades and four limited edition, holiday exclusive shades.

The top-selling gloss shades in the set are Apricot (melon nectarine), Starfruit (shimmering coral), Kitten (nude pink shimmer), and Grapefruit (frosted pink).

The limited edition shades in the set are Believe (rosy wine with gold shimmer), Dreamy (creamy beige amaretto with subtle shimmer), Fantasy (warm pink with gold shimmer), and Kaleidoscope (sheer apricot with multi-pearl shimmer).

I was able to test four colors from this outstanding collection. Kitten is a gorgeous hybrid of a color. This legendary hue alternates between a shimmery bronze or peach. If you love its namesake eye shadow, then you will love this lip glaze.

Grapefruit has a very slight shimmer. It is a lovely bubble gum pink of a color. The LE hue Dreamy also has a slight shimmer. It is a sweet and creamy beige color.

Another LE shade, Fantasy is a very warm-toned pink. It is laced with a gorgeous gold shimmer. For me, Fantasy is the true gem of this collection. It is perhaps one of the most flattering shades of pink that I have ever experienced. It really brightens up my face.

All four of these shades are high on shine. They also each have a subtle scent that I find to be rather pleasant.

The only con is that I find the packaging to be very unpleasant. I hate the twist-action tube. I usually find myself twisting forever, and it is very difficult to gauge how much product will come out of the tube.

But, I am still loving the shades – so let’s take a look at swatches of the LE glazes:

Pros:
Large variety of color options in one set
Pretty shades that flatter and will be used
Excellent staying power, due in large part to their semi-tacky texture.
Fantastic value at just $25.
(Stila Lip Glazes normally run $22 apiece. This set represents a major savings with a $110 value overall.)

Cons:
The twist-action tube. I would prefer a doe foot applicator.

Overall, this is a wonderful set. It would make an excellent gift for a friend or yourself. I feel that the best way to buy and test the legendary Stila Lip Glazes is in a set such as this.

And yes, I dislike the packaging. But the outstanding quality of this gloss outweighs that one negative. I recommend this set and give it 4 stars.

  1. Grapefruit, grapefruit! Oh, how I love thee! (I have currently been out of Grapefruit for THREE MONTHS and it’s killing me. I need my Grapefruit. Why, oh why, does my Ulta not stock it anymore? Grrr. Sephora, here I come!)

I love Stila lipglazes. There are makeup crack. Easily addicting. The twist action tube is annoying, especially if you’re taking a test (it sounds like an AK-47 going off), but it’s not as bad as some lip gloss applicators I’ve come across (read: pump action tubes.)

I’ve never liked the Kitten lipglaze though. It never suited my skintone.

    1. Katie- You crack me up! “The twist action tube is annoying, especially if you’re taking a test (it sounds like an AK-47 going off),” I am also sensitive to noise-especially when I am really concentrating. I will remember that this is the type of product not use in a quiet setting. :)

    2. @hao9703 – OMG, you have to do it one day. It seriously sounds like one. It’s like ting, ting ting, ting, ting. I always look around guiltily while I’m applying it to my lips while I’m thinking, “Me? Twist a lipgloss tube that sounds like an AK-47 going off during an exam? Not meeeeeeeeeeeee. Nope, look somewhere else. It was *so* not me.” Ha ha ha. The room is always so darn quiet during exams. I must find a way to make more noise so the twist cape isn’t so loud!

  2. I love these glosses! They are amazing! They layer so beautifully over everything. 4 stars from me still! Yay for Stila!!

Kitten looks even better when layered over something else.

  3. I love Stila and their glosses are always a sure bet but I’m with you- I’d much prefer a doe foot. The click-up tube and bristles aren’t good for precise application and I ALWAYS get impatient and end up with too much gloss (after a million clicks of nothing).

This set is a GREAT deal. On the wish list it goes!

  4. Their glosses are nice, although a little sticky in my opinion, and the brush part of the applicator is nice… but the click part is the deal breaker for me. For makeup snobs, it’s an issue, but really, this set is a great value, with very nice glosses.

  5. I have always liked Stila’s lip glazes even though they are a bit sticky – I would hope that they will eventually fix that! Along with the rapid fire everyone is talking about. lol. I’ve got my eye fixed on Dreamy & Kaleidoscope – oh and Apricot, Grapefruit and Starfruit too. They look wonderful!

  6. Great review, Katie!
I was the lucky recipient of The Stila Lip Glazes in Apricot and Believe. I have been a fan of these glosses for years and was thrilled to receive them in my WHT box!
I am naturally drawn to shades like Apricot, but I was in the market for a deeper winter color like Believe, and it is beautiful as well. Both colors are very wearable and gorgeous. I found the formula to be long lasting and not too sticky.
I am not a huge fan of the click-click pen because I always feel as though you can’t get all the product out, but I will overlook the vessel because the product inside is so great. 5 stars from me.

  7. I love these glosses and purchase them every year for someone on my gift list. Of course, Santa often puts them in my stocking too! I got to try out two colors…starfruit and kaleidoscope. Both are amazing colors. Starfruit is a light rosy pink that goes on really sheer. Such a pretty color for daily wear. Kaleidoscope is my go to night out on the town color. It’s a very sheer peach with tons of shimmer. Gives your lips a beautiful gold shimmering high gloss look. Love it layered on darker colors to give them some oomph! You can’t go wrong getting this collection. Perfect stocking stuffer!

  8. Stila always made great glosses and, though some find that click annoying, made the click pen applicator a unique and coveted thing– I wanted my first Stila gloss for that purpose only! That said, the click pen has lost its appeal, mostly because I get satisfaction in digging for every last drop of reachable gloss. The colors and formula (in spite of said stickiness which I like since it holds color and stays put longer) have always been winners. I will probably buy a gloss set like this one and break it up for little stocking stuffers for my lady friends.

  9. Agree with everyone, love Stila glosses, a little sticky and not a fan of the click applicator, but that never stops me fr buying them! Believe looks gorgeous!

  10. Ah, the classic click pen gloss :) What an adorable set. Sets like these always get me in trouble during holiday season, only because I never share. Great review!!
