YouTube week – let beauty gurus show you how-to

Did you know YouTube is good for something other than baby animal videos and camera-caught fails? It’s an endless source for beauty tutorials! It’s true, in just the past few weeks I’ve looked up “how to curl your hair” and “at home facials” and learned how to do both very well thanks to some very smart cookies. And as popular as the beauty blog big players are, YouTube has a whole slew of how-to rockstars that are just as knowledgeable.
Here are some answers to some of beauty’s biggest questions….
• False lashes are a mystery to even some of the most seasoned beauty junkies. Here xsparkage gives an easy demo in her very sweet, unassuming style. (Personal note, I was happy to see that this is exactly how I do it!)
• You may not know pancacea81 by that moniker, but you surely know her by her real name; Lauren Luke. Undoubtedly YouTube’s biggest success story, it’s nice to see that she’s still doing videos even after her own line launched (and her pug is still snoring in the background of all of them). How cute is her excitement at the unveiling of that line in this video? And I love her take on a 1950’s pin up look (including the perfect cat eye).
• In this video, MakeupGeek tackles a task that baffles me to no end; How to Contour and Highlight your Cheeks. I love her tutorials, she’s got a very comforting “every day girl” style that always assures me that I can do it too.
• Does blending baffle you? Let the queenofblending and her mad skills show you the ropes with her fabulous take on blue eye shadows. And perfect for the hot weather, check out the Bright Spring Yellow & Green tutorial.
Some others to watch…
• The above look too much blue for you? Check out the more subtle blue look that AllThatGiltters21 created.
• The well rounded pursebuzz is also a hair stylist with a knack for organizing (ooh!) Love this crafty tutorial showing showing How to make your own cream eyeshadow.
• In this video by makeupbytiffanyD, she beautifully tackles two things you see a lot of on YouTube; a smokey eye and a celeb look (here it’s Taylor Swift). Check it out.

You’re right @stef, it’s great to watch these videos and learn how to do various applications.. I love the term “fishface” the makeupgeek uses when teaching how to make nice cheekbones stand out, even if you dont’ have any! Great post once again!
Some of the beauty gurus on Youtube are really great. I love Makeupgeek she seems so down to earth. You should check out Julieg713, her videos are so informative. Also Bubzbeauty has a few DIY videos for things like facemasks and home facials, she is really cute too.
@Diane – I watch Bubzbeauty too! She is the CUTEST. Her accent can totally put me to sleep – Asian/Irish- so unique and soothing!
I’m a total sucker for youtube makeup vids because my mom is a tomboy and didn’t teach me anything about makeup use. Every single time I want to contour or highlight, I have to look up a video. Haha. You’d think I’d learn.
I also watch my favorite ones (Bubzbeauty) when I can’t go to sleep. They knock me right out. ;)
Wow, having been gone for the past few days and I feel like I’ve fallen off the face of the planet! I’ve missed you ladies!
Having grown up on a farm with a less than “girly” mother I never really had anyone to ask for makeup advice. Back then all the tips I got came from Seventeen magazine but now Youtube is where it’s at! It’s so much easier to understand complicated steps when I can watch someone else do it. And I love QueenofBlending! Her parody videos are hilarious!
Great roundup @Stef!
I love these how-to videos. Recently while at the beach I became obsessed with Fishtail Braids. I couldn’t wait to get back and find a video tutorial. In case anyone else wants to learn – here’s my post with the videos that helped me the most:

Have I just been under a rock??? I had no idea these videos existed, thank you so much for sharing them! Now I might have a new obsession…
I’m with you, @lyssachelle, I never dreamed I could find makeup tutorials on YouTube! A whole new world is open to me now! Thanks, girls.
I guess I’m another one who never thought of YouTube for makeup tutorials. Off to watch a few and learn some new tricks.
Great links! Online tutorials saved me. If it weren’t for make up tutorials I’d probably look like a clown…or like I was getting ready to perform in a high school play.
You’re welcome ladies! Now you have a ton of things to watch this summer.
@Piper(DailyDivaDish)- ohh I love both of those fishtail braid looks. Too bad I cut off a foot of hair last winter! D’oh.
Is it just me or is anyone else really impressed with the eye color on the first and last clips? So bright and awesome! I wish I could pull that off, but here in the Midwest I think people would just think I’m weird.
I love watching these sorts of videos. Even more than the tutorials though, I love the haul/review videos. My favorite you-tuber to watch is Lollipop26.
I’m madly in love with Lauren Luke and love everything she does. Makeup geek – great tips! I even dug out my old highligher to try it when I had thought it was useless. I am blown away by Queen of Blending – I wish they wouldve done real time though to see how long that actually took.
Thanks! What we do without You Tube? :-)
The blue and black eye is gorgeous. I love EnKore’s videos as well, he’s excellent, along with Temptalia’s tutorials.
