MAC Hey, Sailor! Cheeks, Nails & Body – review, photos & swatches

MACheysailor1A MAC Hey, Sailor! Cheeks, Nails & Body review, photos & swatchesphotos: we heart this

What’s red, blue, gold and nude all over? The jaunty new release from MAC: Hey, Sailor! Between the nautical packaging and classic shades it’s very easy to get aboard this launch. A tad retro, yet thoroughly modern, it’s…

So, drop an anchor and check out the cheek, body and nail products of the launch (and brace yourself, I have list of maritime terms and I’m not afraid to use them.)

MACheysailorD MAC Hey, Sailor! Cheeks, Nails & Body review, photos & swatchesLaunch Away! and Fleet Fast Blush

MAC calls Launch Away! a true peach. I have to differ (maybe we can have salty fisticuffs down at the dock over it!) While it looks like a light pink peach in the pan, it goes pure pink on me, and way more pigmented than I would have guessed. Pretty, but not at all what I expected.

On the other hand, Fleet Fast was all I expected and more; a coral tinged reddish pink with a golden sheen that adds a beautiful warm glow.

MACheysailorB MAC Hey, Sailor! Cheeks, Nails & Body review, photos & swatchesSun Dipped and Soft Sand Bronzing Powder

Sun Dipped Pro Longwear Bronzing Powder and Soft Sand Bronzing Powder look very similar in their pans. Applied, Sun Dipped is lighter with a slightly pinkish base and a soft shimmer. While Soft Sands is darker with a traditional bronzer look; a golden brown with a fine gold sheen. I think the “longwear” portion of the billing on Sun Dipped also makes it a bit softer and smoother too.

Oh Crew, you’re so pretty to gaze upon with your golden cream base and lavender, pink and peach stripes. But honestly, you confuse me. You’re not quite a highlighter, at least not in the traditional shimmering sense. You’re more of a medium pink blush, and sorry, but not a ground moving one at that. Plus, just to add to the confusion, I saw in Temptalia’s fabulously thorough review that your golden cream is the overlay rather than the reverse. But even though I’m not totally thrilled with your results, special compacts are like a siren’s song to me – hard to resist!

I’ve been a fan of To The Beach Body Oil ever since it was released in the launch of the same name. They’re odorless and as moisturizing as you’d expect from an oil. Man Rays looks to be what was simply called “bronze” in the To The Beach launch. It’s a bronze base with tons of gold shimmer and it deposits a sheer golden tan. Seaside is a nude pink base with gold and silver shimmer. It doesn’t deposit any color, only leaving a slightly glittery sheen behind.

Vestral White is an opaque white cream. If you think opaque white polish is a pleasure to use, then you’ve never used a opaque white polish! I got close to streak free coverage with 2 coats, but it dries quick and is on the thick side. If you like that stark white look (at it is indeed pretty, especially with sun kissed skin) be prepared for lots of fussin’.

Touch of Red on the other hand is a dreamy polish to use, as well as look at. It’s got a thin consistency that’s very easy to work with, and streak-free coverage in 2 coats. It’s a yellow red that has a brightness to it that almost makes it look like it’s back lit or something. Super pretty.

I’m super obsessed with the entire MAC Hey Sailor collection… just in case my other comment hadn’t totally given that away.

My very pale friend who typically hates blush LOVED and looked FABULOUS in Launch Away. So if that sounds like you, run to your nearest MAC counter and snatch it up. Seriously. My friend almost ordered a backup because she loves it so much.

I tried the Man Rays body oil and loved it. It gives your skin the slightest glow and bit of shimmer, without being over the top. It’s subtle, but fabulous. Additionally, it feels great and absorbs quickly. I had always been wary about body oils, but oh my goodness, this one has totally got me stoked.

I love the packaging so much, but this part of the collection is sort of a let down for me. Crew Highlighting Powder looks interesting but I hate deceptive overspray and my face already has way too much pink to add pink as a highlight.

I squealed with glee when the Soft Sand Bronzer arrived for me to test. The packaging alone is SO adorable, the box is a gorgeous nautical stripe with a red inside, just in time for Fourth of July. The compact also is the signature navy and white stripe with a mirror inside. The color is a perfect, classic bronze and I like the color so much, dare I say it rivals my Tarte Park Ave. Princess favorite. I gotta give it five stars. It’s a beautiful compact, a great color, lasted all day, and the price is nice! Nothing but love for MAC again!

I went down to see this line in person this morning. It is quite an attention getter. Some of the lipsticks were ALREADY sold out. I like the soft sand bronzer too and the liptints. I also checked out the website for MAC.. that’s almost as cool as being in the store! Check it out!

I am head over heels for this collection! The packaging and colors are just so much fun! And, while I normally share @Stef‘s opinion on makeup matters, I have to disagree about the Crew Highlight Powder – I adore it! It’s true this highlighter is more of a blush (at least for us lighter skinned gals) but oh such a pretty blush! A swell, pretty pink that totally glows on my cheeks, giving me a healthy flush. It’s my new favorite ‘blush’.

I haven’t seen it in person, but I also am loving the look of the Touch of Red polish – it has sort of a coral-y look to me – so summery.

The Crew Highlighting Powder is FANTASTIC!!! It is a perfect light dusting of color, especially for those of us on the paler side! I used this highlighting powder over a liquid makeup base as more of a blush and it looked great! I also used this powder alone to even out my facial tones. It was just enough to feel covered but not weighed down.

I just received Touch of Red polish – this is my very first MAC polish, believe it or not! I guess I’ve been hiding under a rock to have missed them, but I’m so glad I’m in the know now! I have not used it on myself yet – and it does look almost orangey red in the bottle, but when I put it on my mom’s toes, it looks darker almost brick red against her olive skin. I had to do her pedicure super quick with a rambunctious child running around and because she had just had foot surgery on the other foot, and this polish made my job very easy. It applied quickly and easily – and was very neat for a red. Covered perfectly in two coats and has a nice matte finish. I’m so impressed with the formula, brush and color that I can’t wait to use this on myself and buy more MAC polishes. Oh, and I’m crazy about the sailor packaging – I’m even saving it in the box! 5 stars without a doubt.

LOVED the bronzer and body oil from this collection. The bronzer in Soft Sand adds a very subtle and natural-looking glow to my cheekbones. I had never used a bronzing body oil before, but was pleased with how this product came out on me. I dabbed it along my collar bone and above my scoop-neck tank to add dimension before going out one night; it provided a really nice glow!

I’ve been using the Launch Away! blush for a couple weeks now and it’s pretty much perfect. It reads as the most natural pink/peach/nude shade on me—it’s blush I can wear to the gym and not look like I’m wearing any makeup (Yes, I wear makeup to the gym–yes, I wear blush. Yes, I know my cheeks will be rosy anyways, but I like to help them along. Yes, I have a problem.). I look like me, but better. This blush really lends itself to both a slick of pale gloss or a more dramatic lip–it’s so lovely and understated and reads so neutral that I think this would be a perfect basic to anyone’s blush wardrobe. (Yes, I have a blush wardrobe. Doesn’t everyone? Don’t answer that.) This is a new favorite!
