Everything’s coming up Target Beauty – starring Essie and L’Oreal

March 7, 2013 | By: stef andrews

Don’t you just love Target’s ads? They’re probably one of the only commercials that I actually watch because they’re just so clever. They do their job too, because I instantly want whatever it is they’re promoting. And in the case of their new totally adorable beauty spot – I want it all! See for yourself…

The best part? Because it’s Target, I CAN get it all. Along with some toilet paper, a bunch of birthday cards, something from the Prabal Gurung launch and a new cutting board (all things on my actual Target shopping list right now!)

The ad has me dreaming of everything spring; soft pastels, shocking brights and every flower-hued shade in between. Lucky for me, over the next month I’ll be doing a series of Target beauty posts that will bring those dreams to life.

There are A LOT of great products blooming in this ad. Future posts will feature:

L’Oreal Colour Riche Shadow Quad – Shopping Spree (the prettiest quad I’ve seen in ages and a killer deal at $7)
Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids Lipcolor – Vivid Rose (I am addicted to this bright watermelon pink)
CoverGirl LashBlast Clump Crusher Mascara – Very Black (who doesn’t love a fresh new, inky black mascara?)

But for this first post it was Essie Lilacism that spoke loudest to me. It’s an older release, but its cool lilac shade is timeless and oh-so spring. It doesn’t hurt that lilacs are my favorite flower and I can practically smell them when I look at it!

The formula is just as amazing as the color is pretty; a true cream with a thin, satin finish that covers beautifully in two coats and never looks streaky.

For some added beauty, I grabbed my L’Oreal Colour Riche Nail Lingerie in Something About Her and added an accent nail. They have a smattering of pink glitter at the bottom of the nail with a metallic gold irregular dot gradient.

These are amazing for a special occasion, but I only got one day of perfection out of them. They’re on the thick side, so they start to peel up a bit by day two. I think they’d adhere much better to the ends of your nails if they were a tad thinner. But there’s no denying how gorgeous they are.

So there you have it, a peek at spring beauty courtesy of Target! Anything grab your eye in the ad? Share in the comments.

  1. What a refreshing breath of spring! My furry coat is behind my on a chair as I type this, covered with salt stains from the many snows we’ve had in Pennsylvania this winter. I hadn’t seen the Target commercial–it’s utterly charming! And so are your nails in lilac, especially with the delicate decals. What screams spring more than lilac? Few things! I’m anxious to see what else you have to say . . .

  2. Lilac is my favorite flower too – that smell is intoxicating. What a fun polish shade. Love the flowers in the background of the photo too! So bright & cheery. Looking forward to your Target posts.

  3. The song from the Target Commercials with the multiplying girl is always in my head! Thanks Target! :)

I don’t live directly near a Target anymore, so I don’t go as often as I used to. I wish though because I started following a really awesome Target (not affiliated) instagram account called @Targetdoesitagain.

Stef – your mani skills are blowing me away. Lilacism is one of my favorite Essie purples! I still want to try this nail lingerie.

  4. I love this manicure! That is a gorgeous Essie spring shade and I love the added bling… Totally hunting this down and replicating it!

  5. I am SO ready for spring! It’s the happiest season for me – the lengthening days, the flowers, the bright green grass – all makes me so happy after a grey, dreary winter.

I need a few nail colors to welcome the Spring and Lilacism is going to the top of my list. It’s so pretty – a cool pastel that doesn’t look to Easter candy-ish – but totally perfect for the season. And @Stef – I know I say this every time – but that could be your best manicure/polish photo yet! Gorgeous.

  6. I LOVE that manicure! Super cute and simple. I love Target… so much so that I actually have to avoid going there. I always end up buying a gazillion things. Makeup, clothes, accessories, shoes… and I LOVE the dollar bins.

  7. I have GOT to try L’Oreal Nail Lingerie! I change my nails often enough that a short wear time wouldn’t bother me, plus they’re just so dang pretty!

I spotted a new Nicole by OPI shade in that commercial that I’m definitely going to have to check out, it looked like a really pretty plum color! I’m also excited to hear what you have to say about the Clump Crusher, @stef; I have a tube and it is so amazing.

  8. I LOVE Target, I’m waiting for it to open here in Canada only a couple more months!! Being able to afford everything is defiantly my favourite part of the store.
The Essie nail colour is gorgeous, and they tips are so cute. I want to try it with a green polish for St. Pattys Day.
