Bottled StarbucksĀ® Iced Coffee Helps Us Power Through A Summer Closet Refresher

The beginning of summer is the perfect time to freshen up your accessories. So pull out those bright necklaces, break out the sandals and trade in that black purse for a white or neon one.

But, if you can’t find your summer accessories in your collection (and by collection I mean piles in the back of your closet), you’re out of luck. So that makes this the perfect time of year to organize as well.

Starbucks-coffee-milkYou can’t hide behind that bottle Stef, we’re tackling your accessories!

I spent last weekend helping Stef do just that. It was a hot day in Joshua Tree. Not exactly one we wanted to spend in her closet. But we had some cool, refreshing, caffeinated drinks thanks to Bottled StarbucksĀ® Iced Coffee. Adding some good music and these tips helped to make the process a lot easier.

If you are ready to refresh and straighten up for the summer, we’ve got 3 Tips To Organize Your Accessories:

1. Hang Necklaces From a Repurposed Rack

Necklace-organizing-1

We love statement necklaces, but they can easily get tangled up with one another when residing in a jewelry box or drawer. Repurpose a coat rack, by hanging one inside your closet or next to your vanity and draping your necklaces on the knobs.

Ta-da! Not only are your necklaces easy to see, they also have less of a chance of becoming tangled. Plus displaying necklaces in this way adds a pop of color and art to any space.

Bonus Tip: If you are feeling adventurous, paint the rack in one color and each knob in a contracting hue.

2. Sort and Store

Purse-organizing-1

I admit, I had to chug one of our Bottled StarbucksĀ® Iced Coffees before tackling this task! But it had to be done. When organizing a group of objects like purses, first pull all of them out and lay them out in front of you so you can assess your collection.

Purse-organizing-2

If you haven’t carried a bag in over two years, get rid of it – sell it, give it to a friend or donate it. Collect three cardboard boxes and label them yard sale, friends and donations. Then sort through your pile and load the items you no longer use into one of the three boxes.

Once you have whittled down your hoard, visual the best way to store the entire collection. For bags and purses, you can look to fabric or plastic bins, shelving units or more hanging racks.

Stef has lots of shelving space in her closet, so we decided to stack her purses on a shelf and use a few bins to help separate them. We loaded her clutches, wallets and small bags in a clear bin to keep them neatly organized and easy to spot.

A larger black bin houses a few of her “special” purses that are protected by dustbags. Her everyday purses were placed right on the shelf so she can grab one and go.

3. Label Your Shoe Boxes

This one is easy, but can make such a difference when you are getting ready in a hurry! While those clear plastic shoe bins are great, if you have a lot of shoes the cost to buy those bins for each pair can add up. Stef had a few for her delicate shoes, but most were still housed in their original boxes.

She assumed the branding on each box would help her keep them straight, but as her collection grew it became impossible to remember each pair. A simple sharpie made all the difference.

Carefully print a description of each pair in large, clear letters on the side of the box that will be facing outwards. For those shiny boxes that are hard to write upon, print the description on a piece of paper and tape it to the box. This 10 minute task will save you hours of searching over the years.

And we were done! Stef’s jewelry, bags and shoes were neatly organized and labeled and we also had a nice pile of “leftovers” to share with friends and donate to a good cause. Thanks to Bottled StarbucksĀ® Iced Coffee we motored through this summer closet refresher with energy and excitement. These lightly sweetened, chilled bottles of coffee goodness kept us from feeling that mid-day slump and were a tasty reward for our hard work!

  1. No, but I should! It looks a lot better. They purses specially :)

    1. Thanks Tanya – we found purses in there that I forgot I even HAD!

  2. I always refresh my closet, as well as my husband’s and kids’ every few months, at least one at the beginning of summer and one at the beginning of winter. I am an organized girl; boxes are every where in my closet !

    1. You sound like @tyna – she’s a master organizer! I was lucky to have her help with this. (Now, I want her to come back and help with my clothes.)

  3. @stef – I am so impressed that you had so many original shoe boxes! I have some shelves at the foot of my closet. They are the first thing I throw away.

  4. I totally need to do this. My closet is currently a hot mess. What great tips. And I am totally craving a cold Starbucks treat right now!! Yummy!!

  5. I love these organizational tips! I just reorganized my entire closet last weekend. It’s pretty much a full body workout. I too was tired of my handbags being so messy and all over the place. I have a skinny standalone closet that just caused me stress folding + stacking clothes in it..so after emptying it out, I ended up putting my purses in there!
