It was one month ago that I was overpacking for my trip to the 2014 Emmys. Just how many things does one person need to prep for an award show? Apparently, quite a lot! Besides what my hairstylist and MAC makeup artist used on me, these were the 9 products that got me ready for my walk down the red carpet. (And to be totally honest, there were at least 9 more…)

1. Dove Deep Moisture Nourishing Body Wash ($8.99)
It was thanks to Dove that I was even at the Emmys. And it was through their One Shower Challenge that I got to meet their line of newly formatted Body Washes, aka my new favorite Body Wash. They promise softer skin with just one shower, and it’s the truth. You won’t believe how much moisture this delivers to your skin. How much moisture, you ask? So much that I didn’t need to apply body lotion afterwards. Bonus points for a rich lather and being under 5 bucks too!

2. Beautisol Self Tanning Mousse ($29)
I must confess, I actually used Beautisol Self Tanning Mousse for the first time 3 days before the Emmys. Test a self tanner just before a red carpet stroll? If it was any brand but Beautisol, I’d worry. But this QVC and Blogger favorite makes some of the best tanners in the biz. I brought my Self Tanning Mousse in case I needed a touch up, but I didn’t. My glow was still going strong.

3. Pinch Provisions Mini Emergency Kit ($16)
I must say, my Pinch Provisions kit is one of my favorite (and most useful) gifts I ever received; 17 emergency items in the cutest lil’ bag ever. It now goes with me on every trip and there’s never a time when I haven’t used at least one of the items included. For the Emmys, I stashed the breath freshener in my clutch, used the stain remover on a last minute spill and gave my mani a coat of clear nail polish.

4. Braza Flash Tape ($6.99)
There probably wasn’t one person on the red carpet that didn’t use fashion tape in some capacity. I prevented an actual nip slip thanks to Braza (sorry pervs!)

5. First Aid Beauty Anti Redness Serum ($36)
My skin has this fabulous tendency to get red and blotchy when I’m stressed, which then adds to my stress. Such a wonderful cycle! FAB Anti-Redness Serum has caffeine in it, a vasoconstrictor that narrows blood vessels to temporarily make them appear smaller. Plus a slew of other anti-inflammatory ingredients that help calm the skin. Needless to say, I had a whole stomach full of butterflies that day – but you wouldn’t know it by my skin!

6. Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Instant Eye Lift Algae Masks ($75)
Oh we heartsters, these are absolutely amazing. I’ve tried so many products that promise “instant” results, only to look in the mirror and think “well…I guess, kind of?” Not the case here. With the Eye Lift Masks you pour an activator solution over these squishy pressed algae pads, then apply to under eyes for 10 minutes. You’re instantly more hydrated and wrinkles are diminished, along with puffiness and dark circles. It’s like a magic eraser for your eyes! Magic doesn’t come cheap – a set of 6 pairs is $75. But I’d totally pay $12.50 per event for these results.

7. YBF Prep Microdermabrasion ($80)
Never was a product more aptly named! Prep is my first step in getting ready for a big event, and this was no different. This creamy exfoliator has the finest microdermabrasion particles I’ve ever used, so it’s gentle yet mighty – leaving your skin as soft and ready for anything.

8. Sara Happ Lip Scrub ($24)
I knew I was going to wear a matte lip (MAC Ruby Woo) so exfoliating was a necessity. Sara Happ is my exfoliator of choice, and the Cinnamon Sugar version smells like you’re rubbing a donut on your lips!

9. Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Hair Mask ($26)
The last item on my list is actually the first product I packed. First, because I knew I’d want to do some major pampering the night before and Don’t Despair, Repair Hair Mask is perfect for that. But also because I wanted the delicious scent to envelop me the day of – this is seriously my favorite smelling hair product of all time!

So, what would be the must-have items if YOU were going to a big event? Tell us in the comments!

  1. I love anti-redness serums! I have my faves, but this one is so affordable! I’ll give it a go if you say so!

  2. Great picks! What does the Don’t Despair, Repair mask smell like? And the Algae Lift Eye Masks sound phenomenal.

For a big fancypants event, I’d definitely want Listerine breath strips, Tarte’s Not-So-Slick blotting papers, a killer perfume in a travel atomizer, lipstick for touch ups, and this little heart shaped stone that I found on a creek bank; I use it like a worry stone if I’m extra nervous.

  3. I love that little emergency kit! Also, I am a big fan of amazing smelling hair products so I will definitely be checking our that hair mask, especially if @stef says it’s the best smelling hair product of all time!!

  4. I’ve been wanting to try Dove Deep Moisturizing Body Wash as I’ve heard great reviews on it. If it does half what it claims its a winner! Loved hearing about the Emmy adventure s!
