A gift set to have you rockin’ around the Christmas tree with glee

Anastasia Beverly Hills Collectionphotos: we heart this

Have you ever dreamed of being the kind of rock and roll girl who has songs written about her? I sure have, and Anastasia Beverly Hillsicon understands both my musical and beauty desires. Their fabulous new limited-edition gift set, Kisses On My Lips Volume 2icon ($30), includes six sheer, opalescent glosses that already have my lips rocking out in style.

Named for five immortal women of song, the set includes three shades of ultra-hydrating Hydrafull glosses, and three shades of brand new Hypercolor glosses. (that doesn’t add up…I know, but stick with us!) I always thought of Anastasia Beverly Hills as my go-to line for brow-related products, but they’ve moved into a whole new arena with this set of three pink and three coral glosses.

In a way, the glosses in this limited edition set have the same qualities as the women they’re named after: beauty, mystery, sex appeal and a little controversy.

Let’s start with beauty, mystery and sex appeal. The three Hypercolor glosses start out one color in the tube, then becomes even more beautiful as you wear it, changing into something completely unique based on your body chemistry.

The mystery comes in because there is no clue on the packaging as to which three glosses are Hypercolor. I had fun experimenting until it became obvious that the three shades of pink were the magical hues:

Anastasia Beverly Hills collectionLola, Jolene, Roxane

Gender-bending Lola – a light magenta tinged pink with silver microglitter
Homewrecking Jolene – a light but hot pink with iridescent shimmer
Parisian Lady of the Night Roxanne – a muted medium pink with gold shimmer

When I looked a little closer, I noticed that the paddles of the Hypercolor shades are stained pink, so that should have been my clue about which shades were packing the special power. Within a few minutes of application, each of these three pinks morphed into a bright fuchsia stain on my lips. I got an average of 3 hours of wear from the gloss, but the stain lasted much longer.

The non-changing but still beautiful Hydrafull gloss shades are the warmer coral tones, which are named after:

Anastasia Beverly Hills CollectionMoi, Maggie May, Sharona

Mysterious Moi – a dusty coral creme
Cougar before there was a word for it Maggie May – a light, milky nude
Powerpop darling Sharona – a peachy nude with silver microglitter

As it turns out Moi is an existing shade, so don’t try too hard to figure out the song muse – there isn’t one. All three of these Hydrafull glosses are slightly thick and very moisturizing, and also wore for about 3 hours before I needed to reapply. Of course, they didn’t stain like the Hypercolor shades.

applicator

The controversy of this kit is the applicator, which is unexpected and unusual – a flat, slightly bendy silicone spatula that takes a little time to master. It didn’t take too long to get the right touch, but I think I’d prefer a more traditional sponge-tip or brush. That aside, this kit is something to sing about.

Pros:
Paraben free
Cruelty free
Created with a plant extract that helps increase volume and fullness in lips
Ultra-hydrating formula is clinically proven; after four weeks, 83% saw improvement in the texture of the lips, and 90% reported lips felt hydrated

Cons:
Flat silicone spatula takes some getting used to

  1. They are rockin it nicely! I like Moi, Maggie May, Sharona.. They sure look pretty.. I would have to try out the silicone spatula to see if I like it or not..The hypercolor sounds pretty cool too.. It would be neat to see how it looks on. This move for Anastasia to go with lipgloss is promising. I like that they put care into the formula and it’s a huge plus in my opinion that it is free of paraben and cruelty free! Great review @turboterp!

  2. LIP GLOSS GIFT SET!!

If this were packaged in a resuseable tin, I’d think they made it just for me! These colors look insanely wearable for all skintones (a biggie for me) and that spatula intrigues me. I’d love to hear what my more germ-adverse ladies think; is that a selling point for you? It looks like you could apply and then easily wipe off and re-cap. I wonder if that would make a makeup artist more prone to buying it…

And can I just say, HYPERCOLOR?!?! The 90’s kid in me is SOLD.

    1. I too was intrigued by the spatula applicators Alyssa @lyssachelle – but the germaphobe in me didn’t even think of that great point! You could totally clean the wand between uses if you were so inclined. I was more thinking how some wands deteriorate before you finish the gloss – brushes lose their bristles, or sponge tips sort of lose their plushness. I really want to check these out now.

    2. You’re so smart @lyssachelle – I bet the spatula is a giant plus for makeup artists!

  3. Hypercolor lip gloss…reel me in because I fall for everything! I, too, usually associate Anastasia products with brows but that’s awesome that she has lip products too. I mean, why not? The applicator looks weird for me too…I would prefer a bristle brush based on the swatches. These are looking quite gorgeous I must say!

  4. I’m a sucker for this kit too – and it’s the rock and roll influenced names that gets me. What a cute idea! Going by name alone, I would want Jolene (love Dolly!) or Roxanne (The Police were one of my earliest band crushes) – but judging by the swatches I’m most tempted by Sharona – must be the 80’s lover in me.

Pretty sweet gift for a gloss lover – and the price is really nice – that works out to just $5 a gloss. Beverly Hills makeup at a drugstore price!

  5. I was a little baffled by the spatula at first, but you know, it’s grown on me. I didn’t even think about the easy cleaning factor, @lyssachelle and @tyna . The spatula works really well with the sort-of-thick gloss formula. The colors are beautiful, and the Hypercolor “magic” is fun. A great gift set!

  6. I like the spatula applicator! While I didn’t feel like I had as much control over it due to it’s floppiness, it is indeed perfect for thick glosses. And I LOVE the rock and roll vibe of this collection. Who knew Anastasia had a rocking side?! Really pretty colors too – a beautiful collection.

  7. How cute! The applicator is pretty unusual, but agree with @Stef that it prevents the splayed brush issue nicely. It’s a nice set for the lipgloss lover in your life, or any teen (sheer colors are always a good idea).

  8. I had no idea Anastasia had lip color in her arsenal! These look fab and I too, am intrigued by the spatula applicator!
Can’t wait to rock out with these for the holidays!
