Angel Face Botanicalsphotos: we heart this

We’ve already gushed over Jessica Ress during our inspiring interview with this eco-minded businesses woman (she’s a green living gal; a DIYer with a vast knowledge of essential oils, herbs and organic ingredients). This Green Monday we’re taking a look at Jessica’s natural line of aromatherapy bath and beauty products, Angel Face Botanicals.

Launched in 2004, Angel Face Botanicals began selling Jessica’s hand made bath and body products locally (craft stores and bazaars were a part of their humble beginnings) and followed their own unique path as an eco-entrepreneurship to nationally heralded success. Make that internationally heralded – with the launch of a sister shop on Etsy under the name Spa Goddess, this little-company-that could has become known world wide for high end, green goodies that will love your skin (and your skin will right love back)!

Right now, I am head over heels in love with the Kissed Gentle Foaming Facial Cleanser, a golden hued gem. I am always on the search for the perfect facial cleanser, and this one may have finally filled the bill. This Green Monday worthy gel washes all dirt and grime (even most makeup) from my face leaving not-quite-squeaky-clean skin, just a perfectly soft and matte face. The scent is fresh light and invigorating. And the best part? This gel works into a high quality foam that lasts thru two Clarisonic cycles. I do believe my search is over.

Kissed Gentle Foaming Facial Cleanser

The Kissed Gentle Foaming Facial Cleanser ($20, 4.5 oz) has a quintessentially Angel Face Botanical’s mix of essential oils, including chamomile, calendula and lavender. What? I’ve been using oil on my oily skin? It’s true. But Kissed has the perfect balance of cleanser and moisture and I’ve found my skin responding. Somehow, despite the ‘scary’ oils, my skin looks and feels more matte and less shiny then before. The Kissed Cleanser promises to leave your skin “clean, clear and bright” – and for me, has kept its word. If your tempted to see for yourself, the cleanser is suitable for most skin types – oily, acneic, normal and combination skin.

Now, don’t tell anyone, but I’ve have another new favorite facial cleanser on the side. While I’ve made a daily commitment to Kissed, I’ve also been seeing using the Super Detox Deep Pore Facial Cleanser ($20, 4.5 oz) once or twice a week. Don’t judge me. How can a girl be expected to stay with just one AFB product?

This ‘super-detoxifying’ cleanser is better than most masks I’ve used in really getting down into my pores (and it’s so much faster and easier!). The creamy, gray organic cleanser is “enriched with botanicals, essential oils, vitamins, replenishing oils and activated charcoal to deeply clean your pores of toxins and bacteria for smooth clear skin.” I’ve been using this effective wash a few times a week for an extra oomph to my routine and my pores are thanking me. With the heat, sweat and grime of summer in the city, my pores can look twice their size, yet this season my skin looks smoother and clearer than ever.

The secret is the activated charcoal found in the Super Detox. Known for it’s remarkable absorbency, activated charcoal has the ability to “effectively cleanse the skin, unclog pores, remove deeper impurities and dead skin cells…without adsorbing vitamins and nutrients.” The result? Deeply clean skin, without tightness or shine and a glowing (for me at least) complexion.

My skin is so happy with this combination, I plan on following it as long as the two can co-exist. And I don’t think there will be any problems; I have more than enough love to share with both of these skin saving cleaners.

Our wht review team got look at a number of Angel Face Botanicals favorites from their huge collection of fabulously smelling, super effective, natural products. They will be here leaving their thoughts on the Kissed Cleanser and the Super Detox, as well as the Ayurvedic Organic Cleansing Grains (a nice duel use product – add water for a cleanser or yogart for a face mask) and the Luscious Organic Cleansing Oil (a moisturizing and protective oil used with a warm washcloth to steam away impurities).

we heartsters – has your skin ever been touched by this angel? Testers – are you a believer too? Let’s talk Angel Face Botanicals!

  1. I received Botanicals. Luscious Cleansing Oil to test out. I found it to be really effective in cleaning, nourishing, and protecting my aging skin.. Yes, I have old skin! And no, I am NOT afraid of using oil as a cleanser at all on my face. I actually like it, especially these one. I looked at the ingredients and they are the best of the best and for all skin types. Let me explain. This is made with Moroccan Argan Oil – you may have heard its nickname? “liquid gold, “and let me tell you, this stuff is amazing on many levels. It also has one of the “healing powerhouse” of Calendula in the mix, along with Chamomile Essential Oils Jojoba, Olive, Apricot Seed and Castor Oils..Wow! It works well. I used two pumps of this and massaged upward stokes only on my face, covered with a wet hot wash cloth and let the magic begin. After it cooled I wiped it off and repeated 2 more times with the hot wet cloth. My skin felt great from this. It removed all my makeup with the steamy hot cloth.. My skin felt soft to the touch, and glowed like I was a teenager again! I like this product and was please enough with it to offer a five star rating!

  2. Although I wasn’t an official tester, I did get to sample Angel Face’s Cucumber and Cranberry Oil Organic Eye Depuffer, and I am mighty impressed! This is the perfect hot weather eye treatment: cooling, non-greasy, great smelling (yes, like cucumbers!). And it makes a great base for concealer, too. My eyes look smooth and bright, and I must have more of this fabulous potion!

@tyna, you have me very curious about Super Detox, too. I love the idea of giving my pores a deep cleanse every once in awhile!

  3. The Super Detox Deep Pore Facial Cleanser sounds AMAZING. Does it get rid of black/white heads??

  4. As I read the entire first gushing paragraph all I was thinking was….”Yea, but can it be used with a Clarisonic and if so how does it perform with it?” I have a few washes that I love but because they have granules I can’t use them with my Clarisonic and when I don’t use my Clarisonic my face doesn’t feel as clean and I swear my pore size increases. It’s so hot in PA this summer if you even think about sweating 2 new pimples appear. I’ve been washing my face about 4 times a day to keep oils at bay. So to hear this is really keeping your skin in check during the summer is music to my ears.

  5. I am super jealous! I would love to try Super Detox. It sounds perfect for my insane skin type. And I just love the use of charcoal in a product. It really, really works. This sounds like a must buy for me. Especially because I am insanely impressed by Jessica Ress’s eco ethics and the amazing company that she has created.

  6. Ooo, color me jealous too! These sound great, I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about Angel Face for years before I joined WHT, not only about the products but about the company’s ethics and service in general.
And OMG, I just went to the site and they sell samples! I totally love a company that sells samples. It’s like saying, “Hey. Yeah you. Here, try a little bit. No committment. We don’t need you to buy that whole thing. We know you’ll be back…cause we’re that awesome.”

  7. This sounds like a great product line. Going to check out the site now.

  8. I like that purifying qualities of charcoal have been put to use in a cleanser! The Detox cleanser is really mild, not drying and it leaves my skin super-soft.
My only wish is that the container were slightly larger ’cause I want more!
4 stars (losing one only due to the small size…)

  9. I got to test the Ayurvedic Cleansing Grains and can I just start by saying how awesome this product is? I loved that you can combine it with milk, honey, yogurt for a deeper cleanse. but it has a beautiful woody, earthy scent thanks in part to the sandalwood,

I sadly was out of honey, milk, yogurt and toner (I need to go shopping!) so I used water. It mixed easily together and the mix of clay and botanical grains gently exfoliated my skin without being too harsh. I wasn’t familiar with Ayurvedic medicine, which is traditional to India, but it’s clearly effective. The combination of sandalwood, Ashwagandha and rose citrus did a beautiful job of leaving my skin clean and refreshed.

I followed up with samples of the Oil Free Lavender Hydrating Serum and the Chamomile Exquisite Cream. The Lavender Serum smelled heavenly and was cooling/soothing on my freshly cleansed skin. The Chamomile Exquisite Creme is just that, exquisite. It’s meant for all skin types and it really moisturized the dryer parts of my skin without feeling heavy or greasy on the parts of my face that don’t need heavy moisturizing. After all was said and done my skin looked REALLY good. It minimized any blotchiness and I had a healthy glow.

I’m totally in love with Angel Face Botanicals now. My skin felt pampered and looked fantastic. 5 stars!!

  10. Oooh, Super Detox sounds like just what the doctor ordered! And I’m with @lyssachelle , I really love that the site sells samples! They’re perfect sizes to take on a vacation or just to try out enough of the product to see how it *really* works without the commitment of a big bottle you may not like. Then, if you do like it (which I’m pretty sure you will!) you can buy an “esthetician” size. Who doesn’t love bulk sizes? Less packaging= good for the environment, less cost per oz= good for your wallet!
Angel Face Botanicals seems to have some really great sales from time to time so it’s great to keep an eye on the site. Happy hunting!

  12. I’m horribly late posting on this, but I did just move to another state, so I have a good excuse :)
I got to test the Ayurvedic Cleansing Grains. The product is in a jar and is a finely milled powder. I also didn’t have the recommended milk or yogurt or honey, so I settled for water. I’m not sure if this would be a better product with a thicker delivery system, but the water-based mixture didn’t really give me the results of a mask. It was more like a thin, gentle scrub. I just couldn’t get the water and grains to form the right consistency. This is definitely more of a spa treatment I’d give myself in the tub b/c the mixing of grains with water is very messy. I think I kind of wish this was already pre-mixed with something. Have I mentioned that I’m lazy? I also think my face likes chemicals b/c most “green” face products make me break out. I broke out a little after I used this, but it could have been also because of stress (moving has been crazy). I’d say 4 stars. It would probably work for most people, just not for weirdly sensitive-skinned, lazy me :)
