we heartsters already know that bareMinerals has quite the following here at we heart this, particularly when it comes to their eyeshadow sets – and it’s easy to see why. Whether you consider yourself a neutral-lover with a slight phobia of color, or you’re a color-loving maven who thinks the brighter the better, bareMinerals has handfuls of shades that will be right up your alley. Which also makes them perfect for gifting! In fact, the bareMinerals Degrees of Dazzling iconset would make a particularly fabulous present, since there are TWENTY gorgeous eyeshadows tucked inside the slim package.

Once opened, this unique tube contains twenty shadows in five shades (greens, grays, pinks, plums, and neutrals) in four different finishes (glitter, high shine, liner, and velvet) with both sheer and very pigmented shades, so that you can create an infinite number of looks, for any occasion. Whether you give the entire set to one recipient, or split up the goodies to give to multiple people, you’ll get a million thank you’s!

Each of the eyeshadows in this set is about half the weight of a regular bareMinerals eyeshadows, which retail for $14.00 each – meaning, this set is a great value for only $79 (according to my math, you get about $140 worth of shadow not sure how they got the “$220 value,” but it’s still quite a steal)!

The shadows come housed in a long cardboard hexagonal tube with a clear acetate sleeve. It’s a cute and practical way to store the shadows, since it allows you to see all of the shades inside. Each loose shadow is in a small sifter jar.

The formula of the shadows for the most part was silky smooth and they applied easily. As with most loose shadows, there was some fallout, especially with the glitter shades.

To get the most color and least fallout, there are three things you can do:
1. Use an eye shadow primer, especially a sticky one meant for loose shadows.
2. Use a dense brush and working the product into the bristles helps to reduce the amount of fallout (swirl the brush around the lid and tap off the excess).
3. Or use a slightly damp brush to apply the color (spritz it with water–especially if you want a crisp stroke for liner).

  1. I die! Actually, I probably have a good deal of these or similar, but YUM!

  2. And, I might add, I rarely get to the bottom of a BE eye shadow–these last forever! I’m sure the smaller size is perfect.

  3. @lipglossandspandex, I have been “eyeing” (bad pun intended) this set for ages, vacillating about whether or not to purchase. I AM PURCHASING! Few things are more attractive than well-applied mineral eye shadow, especially from Bare Minerals. You could not have presented these in a more engaging way–all of the colors look spectacular, especially on your eyes. Women often complain that mineral shadow is difficult; once you have practiced, you can achieve effects as you can with nothing else, as we see. Tremendous job!

  4. You are a master at mixing hues to their best advantage–kudos!

  5. @lipglossandspandex — Great rundown on this great value set. I really appreciate the tips you gave to pull off loose eye shadow. I always can use a reminder on best practices on any type of product.

  6. Aw thank you so much for you nice comments, everyone :) While I usually prefer pressed eye shadows, I’m in love with this set. The colors are gorgeous (while I felt like the velvet and glimmer ones could have had a little more oomph in the pigmentation department, they did work well with the other shadows), the array of colors and finishes are perfect for both work and play, and the texture and length of wear were good (although I always use primer!). I feel like the price is a bit high–I know it’s a good VALUE compared to retail, but there are permanent and regular palettes and sets that are an even BETTER value–like one with 12 full sized shadows (a $216 value, not including the dual ended brush and eye primer!) for only $52. Still, the Degrees of Dazzling shadow collection was a LOT of fun to play with. I’d give it four stars (maybe four and a half…) :)
