A foundation junkie finds a new high in flawless coverage

photos: we heart this

I’m constantly on the prowl for high performance foundations – we’re talking I own somewhere in the ballpark of 10 different kinds of foundations. Some are tinted moisturizers, some are classic liquid foundations, some are in mousse form, some cream, some are in pressed powder form, and some are loose minerals. All vary between the lightest of coverage, to coverage so full, you can’t even tell what my original skin even looks like.

All of the foundations in my collection are fabulous and I actually do use all of them, depending on the weather and condition of my complexion at the time. That being said, I’m always on the lookout for the “next best thing” and currently, my latest foundation love comes in the form of BECCA’s Radiant Skin Satin Finish Foundationicon.

Available in nice range of 18 shades, I tested this foundation in Shell, which is an exact match for my palest of the pale self – it’s a nice, neutral fair shade that’s not too yellow and not too pink. The box promises “A medium/buildable coverage foundation with antioxidant protection and a lightweight satin finish” and this luxuriously creamy foundation delivers exactly that.

After shaking the tube (as per instructions), I tried two different application methods, one using my clean fingers and the other using a cosmetic sponge. For the best coverage, finger-painting this on works best. If you’re looking for a more sheer coverage, stick to the sponge method. This product blended into my skin seamlessly whilst hiding away all of the random blotchiness that winter brings with it.

Once on my skin, the Radiant Skin Satin Finish Foundationicon ($42) felt like a richer version of a tinted moisturizer and looked like my own skin, but better. I couldn’t even tell I was wearing foundation, folks. If you are a fan of the no-makeup makeup look, this will be your Holy Grail.

The paraben-free formula gets its pigment from minerals and is silicone-based (think primer-like finish) and contains ingredients like Vitamin E to protect against free radicals and to promote moisture retention, and Ejitsu rose which promotes elasticity and radiance and reduces inflammation. The end result is a flawless finish that blurs fine lines, reduces redness, and balances skin – where you’re oily, you’ll be shine-free, where you’re dry, it’ll impart a dewy glow.

Radiant Skin Satin Finish Foundation in Shell

This was a pretty perfect formula for my temperamental combination skin. This tester enjoyed a shine-free and nearly pore-less appearance for 12 hours. That. Never. Happens. I usually require frequent blottings and touch-ups, but I found that this looked freshly applied hours past what is normal for me. Overall, I found this foundation to be pretty darn impressive.

Pros:
Balances skin like a champ. It softens dry skin and mattifies oily skin.
Truly long wearing. This will easily get you through your day with minimal, if any touchups.
Hides flaws while looking like you are wearing no makeup.

Cons:
My skin doesn’t seem to enjoy silicone-based foundations. I can’t wear most primers without a massive breakout. This foundation didn’t completely break me out like some other products I’ve tested, but I had a few new little spots every time I wore this. If you’re sensitive to the ‘cones, keep that in mind.

  1. This looks really nice–I would love to find a foundation that gives good coverage with little fuss for those low-key days…this looks like a contender! I’m with you on the silicon-based products though; they give me minor blemishes EVERY time.

  2. Wow–my go-to foundation is generally Lancome’s “Dual Finish Versatile Powder,” but this made you look like you–only more refined and enhanced. I am impressed with Becca products. How to justify the purchase? I’ll skip using my debit card and go through coat pockets for loose bills and change. That will assuage any guilt!

  3. Dewy glow, hides flaws, while looking like not wearing any make up? I am SOLD! Sounds like an amazing product!

  4. While I would love to have a huge repertoire of foundations from which I could choose, there aren’t many that cooperate with my oily, acne-prone skin. ‘cones tend to be a problem for me too. I like how this looks in the swatch photo–it does seem to blur lines and create a soft focus!–but I’d be worried about breakouts.

  5. I have a sample of this that I’ve been testing out (from Sephora), and I really want to love this, but I can’t seem to make it work for me. I can’t tell if it’s too sheer, or I’m applying it wrong, or what! Great review though – I’ll have to give it another try.

  6. Great review – and good to hear samples may be available at Sephora. I’m looking for a new foundation for the days I actually do put it on – normally I’m in too much of a rush or don’t want the heavy feeling. My usual go-to, Dior Airflash used to be my holy grail, but it’s not cutting it anymore with my aging skin…so thanks for the new option to check out!

  7. This has a gorgeous finish but I’d be a little worried about the silicone as I react badly to a lot of products. Seems like a great foundation though! I love a good satin finish.
