Don’t miss my new limited edition obsession…
After 5+ years reviewing beauty products (and more than years than I’d care to mention of just being a full on beauty addict) I’ve got a pretty good handle of what works on me and what doesn’t. And my number one rule of thumb? I’m warm toned and purples are not my friend. Sad but true.
But every once in awhile, a product comes along that’s so beautiful that it makes me try to abandon my rule. Most times, I’m proven correct and the product goes to a cool-toned friend. But there are the rare occasions that the makeup gods smile upon purple-less me. I can’t explain it, maybe I just want it so badly I will it to work! Friends, the limited edition Bobbi Brown Peony & Python Palette($50) works for me. And I am so, so happy.
I knew I had to have this the minute I saw it. The Peony and Python palette is part of Brown’s collaboration with Tibi, a beautiful American Fashion line known for it’s effortlessly chic looks. The pairing makes perfect sense. It also makes a perfectly gorgeous collection!
Tibi contributed the beautiful design of this palette (and one other case in the collection), a slim zipped case printed with the combo of Bobbi’s favorite flower laying over a purple snake print, adorned with silver hang tag with both logos on it. One day when the shadows are gone, I’m hoping I can pop out the plastic casing and use this as a wallet.
The six shadows within are:
(top row)
Opal – light, silvery grey with a frost finish.
Lavender – pink tinged lilac; this is one of Brown’s metallic shadows.
Cool Ivory – light, matte, creamy grey with a touch of tan. If it were a bit darker, I’d say it was encroaching on taupe territory!
(bottom row)
Cobra – medium toned, shimmery steel grey, this is a shimmer wash finish.
Plum Orchid – matte, deep purple.
Eclipse – matte black.
For those keeping score, that’s three matte shadows, a shimmer wash, a metallic and a frost – all cool-toned (except for the universal black). The mattes are a tad bit chalky (especially the dark shades) but they mix very well with the shimmers, adding some grounding depth to keep you from looking a bit too bling-y. They’re perfect in the crease and as liners.
The palette also comes with two shadow brushes: round domed and crease. The tiny size took a little bit of getting used to, but the quality is top notch. You really could travel with this and not bring any extra shadow brushes.
The shades makes a rather pretty look don’t they?
As mentioned, Tigi designed another case for the collection. It’s sold alone for $40 and called the Peony & Python Beauty Case (and one lucky reviewer will be by in the comments with her thoughts on it). The same exact case also held the now gone the Neiman Marcus Exclusive, that contained three products and two brushes for $95.
Lucky me, I also got to check out the new Lash Glamour Extreme Lengthening Mascara($24) in Plum. A beautiful addition to the palette, this mascara has the tiny plastic bristles that I am officially obsessed with and is enriched with olive-derived emollients, Vitamin B and humectants, that together produce long, perfect separated lashes.
So, this warm toned girl is in love with the cool toned Bobbi Brown Peony & Python Palette. It just goes to show you, rules are meant to be broken!
we heartsters, will you be checking out Peony and Pythons no matter your coloring? Look who else loves the look…

I love this palette, @Stef! The outer case is fantastic (peonies happen to be my favorite flower as well!) and the colors look quite versatile.
I may shy away from the frosty lavender for fear of looking extra crepe-y, but the other colors look to be just my speed.
I especially love the big smooch in the last pic!
Thanks @glamazon56 – that’s my Teddles!
Teddles! What a sweetie pie.
Your eyes look amazing, @stef – I’m another non-purple-lover so this particular palette isn’t tempting me, but the colors are great on you!
OMG! Bobbi Brown sure knows how to do a mean palette! This one is fierce. I would love to own it. I am all about plums and silvers. The colors are so flattering! And they look super fab on you @stef! What a beautiful palette. It looks like a must have for me!
I saw this palette and it sure is cute! The zippered fabric covered palette not only looks gorgeous – it’s great for packing in a bag (zipper = no fallout and I think the fabric helps cushion the everything).
I too have an odd love it/hate it with purple eye shadows. Some (lighter pastels mostly) clash with my pale, occasionally reddish skin and blue eyes. But darker purples are a whole nother thing and the Plum Orchid looks divine – and it’s matte – yay!
You know, a MA once told me that the reason I probably don’t look good in purples is that I try to wear red based purples versus blue based purples. I’ve found that tips helps a bit. That Plum orchid is def. a more blue leaning purple…
But purples are still all hit or miss for me (mostly miss).
I’m with you, @tyna! I don’t like lighter purples even though I’ve been told I can wear them. I even had a beauty counter salesperson try to sell me a palatte ones full of them. I kept telling the her, “But I don’t LIKE them!” and she was like “Nonsense, you can totally wear them, here buy this!” Needless to say, I did not go back to that counter.
But Plum Orchid is so PRETTY. And the mascara made your eyes look lovely, @stef! As the does the whole palatte, I’m glad you haven’t given up completely on purples!
I love that this has zipper! This beautiful pallette has extra protection. As a person who as killed many a pallete during traveling . . . This is a important feature.
That palette is really cute! I love the print on the outside, and the colors look great… but the zipper and the slightly chalky mattes have convinced me that I don’t need it.
What a gorgeous palette! Love the dark purple and grey. These colors look great on you @stef!
Oh boy, it looks like another hit from “Bobbi’s” must-haves for the Spring. Great swatches and very cute pic of Sir Ted kissing you and your pretty eyes @stef! I’d totally sport some purple too and make it work! The cool ivory looks very much like taupe to me. Each shadow is awesome and works well together – I especially like Cobra. Pretty- pretty-pretty!! I had no idea that this was designed exclusively for Bobbi Brown by Tibi’s Amy Smilovic either. It adorable all-together! If I had this little number I’d just bring it everywhere- really! What I like the most is the zipper case. That’s what I fell in love first when my eyes first met this– funny what floats our boat! I totally dig that the peony and python case so much. It looks like it’s a nice size too, which can fit makeup brushes! Hooray! I just wish some of these limited additions would stick around!
I am also chomping at the bit to try the Lash Glamour Extreme Lengthening Mascara -that must be great stuff to impress, the hard to impress you, @stef! Great post!
Those colors look gorgeous on you, @stef. Definitely not for me, but they are gorgeous on you!
this palette is adorable. I love Tibi too. I don’t know if the light colors would work for me but the rest do . This would be a great travel palette for someone who can use all of these colors. It looks very lovely on your stef!
Wow, I love everything about this compact, the packaging, the colors, it’s gorgeous! I definitely do well with cool colors and these look amazing. Thanks for showing what they look like on…oh, and I love the dog pic too, what a sweetie!
Packaging = LOVE! The palette looks great.
