“Wash away the rough with this small but mighty puff!”
I have always been fascinated by Japanese culture and innovation. When I had the privilege of visiting the country almost twenty years ago, I became instantly hooked on their amazingly unique beauty products. Given my past experiences, and the excellent reputation of Boscia (a Japanese beauty company of over 32 years that’s 100% preservative-free), I was very excited to give their Konjac Cleansing Sponges a try. I received two types of sponges; Deep Hydrating Clay and Complexion Clearing Clay.
Boscia (pronounced BO-Sha, btw!) Konjac Cleansing Sponges include 100% Asian Konjac Root. The root is sourced from the volcanic Jeju Island in Korea, known for its pure climate and nutrient rich soil. But, what exactly IS a Konjac Root? Besides being an Asian beauty staple for over 1,500 years, it’s deep cleansing, absorbs debris/impurities and is pH balanced. Boscia also reports it “Stimulates blood circulation, promotes healthy skin cell renewal, provides a natural way to refine skin texture to improve your complexion, and thoroughly cleanses away makeup or impurities.”
The Boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge with Deep Hydrating Clay ($15) uses moisture rich and mineral packed red clay to clean and hydrate skin.
And, the Boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge with Complexion Clearing Clay ($15) uses green clay as a natural anti-bacterial to help clear breakouts and prevent future ones by exfoliating and keeping oil in check.
I will admit that I was a little intimated when I first laid eyes on and felt these little circles. They are almost like hard little pumice stones. I could not imagine washing my face with one. Rather than balking, I read the instructions and soldiered on.
Once you wet it with warm water, it transforms to a soft and pleasant spongey texture. You then apply your cleanser, and gently massage it in a circular motion across your face and neck. Rinse it thoroughly after each use, and hang by the attached cotton thread in a well-ventilated area to dry. It is recommended that you cleanse twice a day and replace the sponge every 2-3 months.
I’m happy to report: I adore this method of cleansing. I find the sponge to be one of the most gentle, thorough and pleasant cleansing tools that I have ever used. I actually look forward to washing my face! In the short time that I have been using the sponges, I have noticed clearer skin with less oil and yet more moisture. I am loving the results, and will absolutely be purchasing more in the future. For the small price of $15, I highly recommend the gentle, yet effective Konjac Cleansing Sponges.

These sound so cool, and I want one! I need something that will constantly battle exfoliation, which I seem to desperately need more and more of these days, and I really like how the use natural clays to soothe skin and prevent breakouts.
Thanks @kellie76 for the great review on Konjac Cleansing Sponges.
I am very interested in this product! A few years ago I started to use it in many things, even my cooking! It’s got a lot going for it! Konjac Glucomannan is amazing stuff!
Thank you, @kellie76, for teaching me that I’ve been saying BO-Sha wrong all this time! Great review!
@kellie76 – I have always found these sponges very intriguing. I am so glad you broke this unknown cleaning tool down. I definitely want to try one.
