Is it just me, or are nail collections boring you to tears lately? Do we really need another bright red? And look, a blush pink. Yawn. I know these are a go-to in the nail world, but can’t the big brands reach for the pigments that are a little less used? It’s so much more fun when they do.

Just like Cirque Colors did. With beyond fabulous results!

Behold; the Icon Duos collection for winter 2015. The brand teamed up with Nordstrom for their latest “pop-in” shop, temporary themed pop-up shops within select stores (and online) that showcase independent brands and designers. The theme for this holiday season is an exciting one: Opening Ceremony, the international lifestyle brand and boutique who is just as much about fashion as they are art and travel. Cirque Colors is a great match for the brand as you’d never use the word “ordinary” to describe either!

They created three duos for the launch, each includes one holographic and one creme nail lacquer for $22 (a $26 value).

Modern Muse is a “shimmery dusty pink holographic.” I surprised myself that what could be seen as the mildest shade of the collection, is also one of my favorites. It’s a beautiful everyday shade in a shimmery rose pink nude. Paired with El Capitan, an “olive green crème”, the duo has a military vibe. Like camouflage against shimmering pink sand.

If I had to pick a favorite duo, it’s this sexy Scandinavian pairing that’s all about fire and ice. Oporto is described as a “rich mahogany (scattered) holographic with glowing red embers.” It’s a gorgeous vampy shimmer that sets the blue-grey Storm King off so beautifully, a “muted icy blue creme.”

Tangerine Dream is about as autumn of an orange as there can be, a “spicy orange holographic.” It’s a burnt orange with light pink and magenta shimmer, a really complex color. Mellowing it out is Selvedge, a “dark cobalt blue crème.” I always fall for a cobalt, as I have with this.

While the holos are on the slight side (Modern Muse is definitely the most dazzling), the shades and duos are anything but mild. All shades covered well in just two coats. Very impressed with the whole launch!

  1. These are so unusual and beautiful. I love the Oporto/Storm King duo the most, but let’s be honest: I wouldn’t kick any of these polishes out of bed.

  2. I can’t pick a favorite. This is the kind of selection that could have me standing at the display for hours, trying to make a decision! I will admit Oporto/Storm King was my knee jerk reaction, but the others are soooo lovely, too.
