Smudge Pencils by Dedra Beauty – Review and Swatches

Eyeliner: Who can deny the allure of the perfectly done winged liner? Or a cat eye look? Or the slightly smudged, smoky liner? Throughout time, women have used makeup to enhance and help their natural beauty shine. And Dedra Beauty wants to help you continue that tradition – while helping you save some time.

Dedra Beauty was created by Dedra Whitt, a professional makeup artist with over 18 years of experience. During that time, she discovered first hand the wants and needs of the busy working woman – makeup products that are versatile, easy to apply and beautiful. And after testing the Dedra Smudge Pencil ($19.50), I can tell you that this little gem makes looking beautiful a breeze.

The Smudge Pencil is a multifunctional eye pencil that both shadows and lines, as well as highlights. How cool is that? You don’t even need a brush. It is truly “makeup on the go” and who could resist? I couldn’t. I didn’t even try.

I tested two shades of the Smudge Pencils, Smoke and Baroque, and I can say that I am loving them. Starting with the packaging, which is sleek and simple. And did I mention I never need to worry about a brush?

In fact, all Dedra beauty products are made to be used without the aid of brushes. Talk about simple. And I appreciate that the end caps of these pencils are color coded to match the Smudge Pencil shade – makes finding the right pencil a snap.

Baroque is a gorgeous coppery brown that makes my brown eyes come alive. I find myself reaching for this one again and again. It blends beautifully and the formula is creamy – it glides right on, stays put the entire day and didn’t crease. It was a dream to wear!

Smoke is a stunning charcoal grey with a nice metallic sheen, that is really perfect for the smoky eye look. It’s got that edgy, rocker vibe to it. Fantastic for a more dramatic eye. Both look wonderful smudged or not and could be layered for many different looks.

Overall, I found these Smudge Pencils to be incredibly versatile and I cannot say enough good things about them. But here are a few more! All Dedra Beauty products are made in the USA, paraben-free, talc-free and they also feature a few gluten-free products. Dedra says the line was created to help you ‘look like yourself, but on a very good day’ – and I couldn’t agree more.

  1. Are those shorter than Maybelline brow pencils? They look tiny!!!

    1. They do look a little stubby, don’t they? Which makes me find them even more appealing. I find that shorter brushes and pencils are easier for me to work with somehow. Not sure why, but I line my eyes much better with them!

    2. They’re under 4 inches long, chubbier than standard pencils though.

  2. Ooohh I love Baroque! A deep brown with just a touch of shimmer – gorgeous!

  3. Yes, they are chubby and totally agree, Tyna, I think that it makes them so much easier to us . They are larger than the Maybelline ones, too! I really loved them, just great makeup!

  4. ooooh, I like both Smoke and Baroque! I’m totally interested in these babies!

  5. Smoke! What a fabulous color, I’m with Tyna, I like shorter, chunkier pencils and have an easier time lining my eyes with them…

  6. Smoke looks like just the kind of liner I love, and stubby pencils are extra-easy to grip.

  7. I’m still loving these, although I am thinking that its time to order backups!!!
