The more I learn about Dermalogica’s products, the more I admire this brand’s ability to solve issues in simple, effective ways. That being said, I’ll admit that when I looked at the no-nonsense packaging of the two Dermalogica products I tested, I was initially unenthused. They look clinical, and, frankly, not very exciting. It took about two seconds for me to do a total 180 after I opened the products and started applying them.

That’s Dermalogica in a nutshell… it’s a brand that sneaks up on you and before you know it, you’re hooked!

Dermalogica Phyto Replenish Oil ($75 1oz) is a small bottle of light treatment oil that you can either apply directly to skin, or mix with moisturizer. I chose the direct method, just 4-6 small drops for the face and neck. Nothing like a massage after a stressful day to make your body feel renewed, right? The same holds true for your face! Phyto Replenish Oil comes with instructions for facial massage, and it only took one time for me to fall in love with this product. Just a few fingertip swoops around my face seems to release tension (and wrinkles), and the oil makes my skin glow.

Phyto Replenish Oil works in three phases:

  1. Camellia and Tamanu oil phytoactives restore the skin’s natural barrier.
  2. Essential lipids like Orchid Flower and Chia Seed Oil moisturize and smooth lines.
  3. Sunflower, Rice Bran and Rosemary extracts seal the deal with a shield of protective antioxidants.

While I prefer to use the oil under my makeup, Dermalogica suggests alternatively using a few drops over makeup for added glow.

Shout out to their included tool that helps get every last drop out of the tube!

As nice as all this glow-iness is, there are certain times when I don’t want to shine, and Dermalogica Hydrablur primer ($47 for .75 oz) is just the problem-solver I need. I tested this product at the perfect time, a week when the heat index was literally 105 degrees and my makeup was melting right off my face the second I stepped out the door. I almost laughed as I applied a light base of Hydrablur under my concealer and CC cream, sure I was wasting my time.

The joke was on me. Hydrablur really does help maintain a matte finish even in a heatwave. It hydrates, mattifies and, even better, the effects last all day! It’s even anti-aging; fine lines and wrinkles are minimized thanks to Hydrablur’s oil-free, no-greasy moisture. The product contains naturally-astringent Mushroom Extract, which shrinks and improves the appearance of pores. Whu-Zhu-Yu Fruit Extract makes the skin appear radiant. Even though the tube looks tiny, just a little bit is all it takes for all-day wear.

Best. Primer. Ever!

Both the oil and primer are formulated without artificial fragrances, colors or parabens. Dermalogica products protect and nurture, and I’ve come to appreciate the way they’re simply packaged but powerfully concocted.

Remember I said I was initially unexcited? I’m now obsessed.
