The Ladies of Who, and Rory too!

Our Indie Nail Polish Spotlight is an ongoing series that highlights not only the new and upcoming stars in the indie nail polish world, but the entrepreneurs behind them. These small business owners are making their dreams come true by starting their own lines and we heart this believes that you do not need a big name to make a big splash in the beauty world!

Digital Nails Companions

Being an Anglophile, one of my guiltiest pleasures is Doctor Who. A BBC staple since the 60’s, Doctor Who thrills those of us across the pond too with its pathos, romance, humor and timey-wimey wibbly-wobbly storylines. The minute that Raphaelle of Digital Nails posted about her Companions collection, I knew I had to make these mine.

Digital Nails Super Temp

First up from the Companions collection, let’s take a look at Super Temp ($10) in honor of Donna Noble; savior of the universe and the “best temp in Chiswick!”

Digital Nails Super Temp

This beautiful coral-orange is so very Donna – a bold crelly (creamy jelly) that is packed to the brim with teeny golden microflakes. Like Donna, this color just commands your attention. It’s also the fastest dryer of the bunch and is opaque in nearly one coat.

Digital Nails Expelliarmus

Expelliarmus is Martha’s polish, named after that amazing moment in “The Shakespeare Code” where she dispels witches by borrowing a phrase from JK Rowling. Sadly, this color seems to be sold out on Digital Nails Etsy store.

Digital Nails Expelliarmus

Expelliarmus is complex; a deep purple jelly with blue color shifting microflakes, two sizes of magenta circle glitter and large violet and silver holographic glitter. I had a bit of trouble with this polish; a delicate touch was needed to keep it from getting too thick on my nails and some fishing was required for those large circle glitters.

But, boy, are they worth it. Honestly, I would wear this one without the glitters – the purple with a flash of blue is that gorgeous on its own.

Digital Nails Ultimate Ginger

Next up is Amy Pond’s polish, Ultimate Ginger ($10). Inspired by a quote from “Vincent and the Doctor,” this sky blue base holds a CRAZY amount of glitter in shades of marigold, orange, avocado white and holographic aqua.

Digital Nails Ultimate Ginger

Seriously, this is a glitter bomb and works great on its own or over a complimentary shade. Being so full of glitter, a good top coat is recommended, such as Gelous or Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter Food.

Digital Nails Pandorica

I’ve saved my favorite for last – Pandorica ($13). Named after Amy’s prison that Rory guarded for 2,000 years (Oh, the romantic devotion!), Pandorica is a must have to holo fans.

It is a black jelly that is packed, PACKED, with holo power. Some holos are subtle and need to be coaxed out in sunlight; this bad boy practically glows in the dark. Opaque in about three coats, this also looks amazing over black.

Overall, I was really pleased with the application and the colors make my little Whovian heart sing! Don’t worry, fellow geeks, Digital Nails has polishes for Clara (Run, You Clever Boy), Rose (So Disco) and River Song (Hello, Sweetie) too.

we heartsters – are you Doctor Who fans? What character might you create a polish for?

  1. Another amazing collection @lyssachelle! I’m not a Dr. Who fan (yet!) – I’ve been meaning to catch up on the latest incarnation of the series but haven’t found the time. From what I’ve gathered, I think I would love it.

I am however, now a fan of Digital Nails – what pretty, sparkly polishes. I’m with you and think my fave polish of the bunch is Pandorica – I’m a sucker for a good dark gray polish and all the fine glitter makes it even better. Love the way you shared how it looks alone and over a solid black. I need a manicure just like it!

    1. I’m so glad you like the collection! Pandorica is more amazing in person as it is in the photos!!

And you MUST watch Doctor Who!! It has a bit of a cheese factor, especially in the early days, but it will suck you in, but good! :-)

  2. I haven’t ever seen Doctor Who (and I can’t afford to be addicted to any more TV shows haha), but these polishes are just so fun. I really can’t decide which one I like best… Seriously, they’re all so pretty. Thanks for sharing this indie brand with us!!!

  3. I have never watched it but it’s on my “someday” list. These polishes are so pretty–I am loving Ultimate Ginger.

  4. Love this collection! Kind of unconventional but super cool for those who are daring with their colors. I like straying from the norm so maybe that’s why I love it! It’s also why I probably have a drawer in my helmer dedicated to indie polishes. ha!
