Go forth and be bold with a fragrance from an iconic line

I’m sure by now you’ve seen one of the many Kendall Jenner commercials, showcasing Estee Lauder Modern Muse Le Rouge, showing a bold and confident Kendall walking across the street to LaBelle’s Lady Marmalade in a striking red dress with lips to match.

I will say the campaign surrounding this fragrance is pretty brilliant; the hot, new “it” face of Estee Lauder, and younger Kardashian, has appealed to a new audience and given Estee Lauder a little edginess. I mean, I even wanted to try this fragrance from the just the commercial (though I’m definitely not a twenty something, I’m soon to no longer be a thirty something!)

Modern Muse Le Rouge is Estee Lauder’s latest version of Modern Muse, described as capturing your “glamour, sophistication and bravado”. It has notes of Bulgarian rose, raspberry, pink pepper, saffron, Madagascar Vanilla, Patchouli, Vetiver, Jasmine and Magnolia, which is a pretty impressive line up! Housed in a chic glass bottle with an shiny red bow top. It looks oh-so-modern and fabulous sitting on my vanity counter.

When I first took a sniff, I must say I didn’t like it right away. I felt like it was really bold and was going to be overpowering. I guess I should have learned my lesson by now, that perfumes are so individual and need to sink in with my own skin. Because within a few minutes of applying it to my wrist, I found myself really enjoying the soft musky floral I was left with. I now find it to be a pretty safe “work fragrance” that isn’t too loud or powerful and lasts well into the early afternoon after my morning spritz!

The style is described as fruity, floral and oriental and I definitely get that vibe from it. I think it would appeal to a pretty broad range too; younger or older, student or professional. It’s easy to wear out for a night on town, without worrying about it consuming everyone around you. I’m so glad I didn’t let first impressions deter me because Modern Muse has turned out to be my new daily fragrance of the moment and the perfect scent for winter.

With three sizes to choose from (the smallest 1 oz bottle sells for $62), it’s a pretty comparable price to a lot of perfumes on the market. I think it would make a perfect gift for someone…or for yourself!

  1. I’ve always loved ‘Beautiful’ by Estée Lauder. Modern Muse sounds pretty delicious though. I may need to give it a try. I’m a sucker for anything with either rose or vanilla and if this has both, well count me in.

  2. I’ve never tried an Estee Lauder fragrance before, and the way you describe Modern Muse makes me want to rush to the store to spritz it immediately!

  3. I haven’t used an Estée Lauder fragrance in awhile and I really liked this one!

  4. I smelled this via just a scent strip and liked it–it does seem like it would be a great work fragrance. And anytime patchouli is involved, I tend to love it. I used to think patchouli was so heavy and gross, but now I’ve learned to love the spicy depth it can lend a fragrance.

  5. I love Beautiful and I’m thinking that I’ll be giving this a huff the next time I’m at my Estée Lauder counter. I LOVE the bow topped bottle–so girly and feminine! Great post, @spitfire77!!

  6. Well, White Linen and Beautiful are some of the classic scents I have always loved. However, I really LOVE this one. I agree that it is a great sophisticated “work” fragrance. Who knows! One day I may consider it one of Estee Lauders “classic” fragrances. However, I will need to buy it at least 10 more times for that classification.
