Gift Guide for Guys

Gift Guide for Guys

Guys Gift Guide‘Tis the Season to shop until you drop. Who wants to do that when you could be sitting by the fire roasting chestnuts with Bing and sipping eggnog with Grandma? I know how hard it can be to find the perfect gift for your brother, uncle, dad, grandpa, hubby or beau. I know, I know, the men in your life all speak right up and articulate EXACTLY what they want, BUT in case there is a gentleman on your list that isn’t being too forthcoming, here are some gift ideas for the men in your life.

For The Gadget Lover

Myvu Crystal Personal Media Viewer, Made for Ipod Edition ($219.95)
This is a movie theater that you wear. Plug it into your Ipod, laptop, Xbox, or other media player and the glasses along with the integrated earbuds simulate watching a 50” television. No more straining to watch Beerfest on your Ipod Nano!

Bluetooth Car Kit with Steering Wheel Bracket and Wireless Earpiece ($68.99)
More and more locations are cracking down on cell phone usage while driving. If you want your man to be safe and legal, but still connected, consider this steering wheel mounted Bluetooth set. It is better than other Bluetooth car kits in that the speakers and microphone are right in front of him (not clipped to a visor or noisy air vent) and allows for thumb controls without his hands ever having to leave the wheel.

Kindle Wireless Reading Device ($259)
This was already mentioned in a post about gift ideas for the book lover, but this is such a cool gadget, it bears mentioning again. It holds 1500 full text books and stays charged for days. Your guy can download books in 60 seconds from anywhere there is WiFi. This is perfect for the guy who commutes.

The New York Times, Kindle Subscription ($13.99)
Help your man stay on top of current events with this electronic newspaper subscription that automatically downloads the same day the newsstand edition comes out.

For The Beer Lover

Coopers Brewery Micro Brewery Kit* ($120)
It’s an all-in-one kit for your beer lover to delve into the art of home brewing. The kit is designed by Australia’s only 5 star brewery and comes with everything needed to produce about two cases of quality home brewed beer.

* Doh, looks like this is out of stock already! We found the (what looks like the same kit) at NapaCabs.com – for $89.95. Other well reviewed home brewing kits at amazon include the Gold Complete Beer Equipment Kit at $94.99, and the Home Beer Brewing Equipment Kit with American Lager, a starter kit for $90.95.

The Complete Joy of Home Brewing ($14.95)
Techniques, tips and more from the founding president of the American Homebrewers Association, (and organizer for the Great American Beer Festival and the World Beer Cup), Charlie PaPazian to guide your home brewer.

Avanti Mini Pub 5-Liter Beer Tapper ($209.49)
For the man who doesn’t want to wait to brew his beer, give him this great counter top kegerator. It’ll fit in any kitchen or man-den with ease. It holds 5L mini kegs (about 16 glasses of beer) and keeps them cold. Where other brands only hold the Heineken mini keg, this unit will take any 5L keg. Just think, no more beer cans or bottles lying around after the big game anymore! Pair this with the 5-Liter mini keg of his choice for a complete gift. You wouldn’t give a toy without including batteries would you?

For the Sophisticated Guy

Bulova Marine Star Chronograph Watch ($255)
For a man about town or in the boardroom, this watch screams sophistication and style. Made by Bulova, an American standard for 90 years, this is a heck of a nice watch. I recently acquired a Bulova timepiece as a gift and squealed like a schoolgirl. (Uh, a very manly schoolgirl. Um, yeah…)

The Art Of Shaving 4Elements Kit ($25)
This travel kit comes complete with Pre-Shave Oil, Shaving Cream, After-Shave Balm, and a genuine Badger Shaving Brush. It’s everything the discerning groomer needs for a close, comfortable shave.

Gap Cashmere Hoodie ($168)
Most guys love to keep it simple with jeans, a t-shirt, and a hoodie. If your guy has impeccable taste, he’ll love a hoodie made of cashmere. I never understood the wonder that is cashmere until my wife gave me a sweater made of the stuff one year.

Private Reserve Filet Mignon ($109 for Six 6 oz. filet mignons)
Most men love their red meat and the guy with discerning tastes on your holiday gift list will love these filet mignons from Omaha Steaks. These are hand-picked to be the best steak you’ve ever eaten. EVER. If you don’t want to pay that much for steak, I highly recommend you check out the rest of the Omaha Steaks website, there are a variety of selections for any budget.

For the Big Kid
Let’s face it, most men are big kids. We like our toys and our comics. We like our movies and our sports. We’re very deep creatures that way.

NFL Comfy Throw Blanket with Sleeves ($21.99)
I’m plugging my hometown team of the Steelers in the above link, but if you scan Amazon, you will find a variety of NFL and even NHL team blankets with sleeves. With this gift, your man will be able to root for his favorite sports team and stay cozy. Plus, since it has sleeves, he’ll be able to reach for both his remote control AND beer. Score!

The DC Vault or Marvel Vault ($19.95)
These are museums in a book in which rare promotional material from back in the 1930’s to present time are collected for the likes of Superman, Batman, Spiderman, and the Incredible Hulk. Even guys who haven’t read a comic book in years will enjoy these.

Star Wars Trilogy ($25.99)
Just about every man between the ages of 25-45 wishes he was Han Solo at least once in his life, even if it was just so they could be close to a metal bikini-clad Leia. The original trilogy is a must have in a dvd collection.

Planet of the Apes– The Legacy Collection ($23.49)
Guys love monkeys. Especially when they walk and talk. ‘Nuff said.

Rubik’s Professor Cube 5×5 ($22.86)
So the guy thinks he’s a genius (Don’t we all?). Give him this. It’s like the classic Rubik’s cube, but instead of 9 squares per side, it has 25. That should keep him busy for a while.

Stocking Stuffers (Under 10 bucks)

SE 11 Function Credit Card Sized Survival Tool – Pocket Size ($5.50)
This multi-tool fits in any wallet. Look out, Survivorman!

Frank Sinatra’s Greatest Hits ($8.97)
Most men love Old Blue Eyes.

Ronco Pocket Fisherman ($18.49)
Your guy can toss this in his glove box and when the need for fresh trout strikes, he’ll be ready!

There you have it, a gift for every man in your life, be it husband, brother, father, or man-child. If they don’t like one of the gifts on this list, I’m pulling their man card. Happy Holidays!

  1. The microbrewery kits aren’t the only thing in short supply at Amazon, some computer accessories I’m looking for seem almost impossible to find in stock anywhere. But, in case it helps anyone, ran across an interesting trick that will give an alert within seconds of when the stuff I’m looking for comes back in stock at Amazon. It’s free. It’s great for avoiding the inflated third party seller price when Amazon runs out. It’s at http://www.azproductsnatcher.com

This is a fascinating look into the mind of a man. Beer, Gadgets, Monkeys, got it! If you saw a monkey drinking beer and using a kindle, would you explode with happiness? (I think even I would.)

    Great post Mike!

I believe that there would be a great deal of excitment should I see a kindle-reading, brew-sipping simian.

Also, I didn’t realize how expensive many of the gifts on my list are. (No I don’t expect to get any of these items, although some I do already own). As you are perusing the various websites and stores, you will definitely find less expensive alternatives to most of these items.

Let me say this, anything you get for your guy whether it be father, brother, uncle, husband or beau will be enjoyed, loved and appreciated, because we know that you went through a great deal of thought and trouble to find us something you think we’d enjoy.

It would be even better if the monkey was wearing a “Blanket with Sleeves” showing off his team pride. I cracked up when I read blanket with sleeves, guess that is how they get around the Snuggie patent?
I want that cashmere hoodie for me! This crap weather in PA has me wanting to be snuggly instead of high fashion and with that I can be snuggly and fashionable. Great gift ideas Mike. One I will suggest and I’m shocked it wasn’t suggested by you is Peanut Butter and Co peanut butter! That stuff is so freaking good. Great stocking stuffer!
