When it comes to bold, blackest black eyes, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, practice makes perfect. Precise application and good blending are key skills, especially when it comes to using intense colors like black. Keep q-tips and makeup remover handy for mistakes.

Second, be sure to apply eyeliner in between your lashes, and also on your waterline. On the waterline, you can stick with basic black, or you can try a nude color. Using nude on the waterline enhances the effect of the smoky eye by brightening the eye area and making your eyes look larger.

Givenchy’s Magic Kajal Eye Pencil in Delicate Nude ($22.50), a matte tawny shade, is perfect for this. This chubby stick liner is smooth, creamy and easy to apply.

3 things to know about Magic Kajal Eye Pencil in Delicate Nude:

Givenchy sharpener on a light-colored background

1. Sharpen the pencil before each application to get the brightest, cleanest line possible. Luckily, there’s a sharpener included, so you’ll always have one handy.

2. This shade is super versatile. Use the oh-so-blendable pencil on your waterline, browbone, and inner corner of the eye to highlight.

3. Just how versatile? You can also use this to contour your lips when going for a Crimson Velvet pout.

Don’t forget, the right brushes make all the difference. Experiment with different types of eyeliner brushes, and use dense eyeshadow brushes to prevent fallout. Find a mascara with a brush that allows you to layer on the product for perfectly long, black lashes.

Givenchy’s Noir Couture Mascara in Black Satin ($32) is a great choice for smoky eye and winged liner looks. It’s unique, curved brush (it looks like three spheres) applies the intensely black and shiny formula like a dream.

3 things to know about Givenchy Noir Couture Mascara in Black Satin:

1. The brush is fabulous – use its unique shape to apply this mascara to your innermost and outermost lashes. The bulbous curves allow you to get each and every lash.

2. This formula is buildable. Apply several coats (the more the merrier!) while the mascara is still wet. Use as much as you want, with no worries about clumps and sticky lashes.

3. The formula stays put – so you can feel free to apply the Noir Couture Mascara to your lower lashline for added drama.

  1. I love the Blackest Blacks trend from Sephora’s COLOR VISION, and these Givenchy products sound like just the ticket for fall, @lipglossandspandex ! The nude on the waterline is brilliant, and I love that the Magic Kajal Eye Pencil comes with its own sharpener. @stef , your eyes look absolutely amazing!

  2. LOVE Givenchy products and these look so awesome for fall. As a huge fan of the nude pencil on waterline trick, I so want the Magic Kajal Pencil in Delicate Nude. I bet it’s super soft and blendable too! Also that mascara has such a cool brush shape! Great review @lipglossandspandex and awesome looks @Stef :)

  3. Thank you, @mandabear and @turboterp! @Stef does look fabulous, doesn’t she? :) The texture of the kajal pencil is just beautifully creamy and smooth–and the nude pencil on the waterline trick helps the blackest black eye trend from venturing into raccoon eye territory! The included sharpener is a definite draw for me as well–you can never own too many of them (especially since I always seem to misplace them…)

Also, I know you all know I’m a sucker for packaging, but I’m kind of super in love with the Givenchy mascara tube. The shiny black with silver accents makes me swoon.

    1. Thanks @lipglossandspandex! I’m so with you on the packaging. That mascara tube is downright sexy. And it FEELS so good too, really weighty and substantial. Thanks for the great review.

  4. I love the look of that mascara…inky but natural looking without the clumps. I have a nude pencil (not this one) that does double duty for lips and eyes…it’s such a great corrector/enhancer. Everyone should have a nude pencil. I will absolutely give this one a try next time!

  5. Wow, @stef, that is one gorgeous eye ball! That has got to be on of the best colors on you yet!
I love Givenchy products.. such quality and taste. The Magic Kajal Pencil in Delicate Nude is lovely and it comes with the sharpener!
It’s made in Germany so it’s gotta be good!

    1. Ha! I’ve got another where that came from…

  6. @stef you look amazing! Givenchy products are so great! I always feel so decadent and luxurious when I use them. But the line has more than a high end going for it. The products are of an amazing quality! I highly recommend them.

I am totally pumped to give the mascara a try. It just looks so inky and luscious! And I never would have thought to use a nude eyeliner. But it looks fabulous. Sign me up!!

    1. Thanks @kellie76 – nude eyeliner was new to me too. But I’m a fan now!

  7. @stef – You have the purtiest blue peepers! *jealous*

I heart Givenchy’s cosmetics. They make the best blushes and lipsticks (i.e. How I judge a line). I’ve oddly never tried any of their eye shadows, liners, or mascaras, though. That mascara makes me think I need to rectify that…and soon.

  8. I’ve never thought about using a nude pencil on my waterline! I tend to use a white liner on my waterline to perk up my eyes, but it can be a little stark against a more neutral look. I think a neutral pencil is just the answer I’ve been looking for! Thanks @Stef and Sephora!

    1. I am with you! I never thought about using a nude pencil on the waterline before. This is sheer genius. This is one thing I have to add into my collection pronto!

Everything I have ever purchased from Givenchy’s has been 100% quality. I heart them.

    2. I’ve used white on the waterline before, and it works too, but with the smokey eye look/blackest black, a nude pencil is really the way to go :)

  9. I’m drooling over the Delicate Nude Eye pencil. Such a pretty nude – and in a creamy pencil form! The possibilities are endless. I love the idea of it on the waterline – with (or without ) a black liner . And I bet it would look nice blended all over the lower lid as a super bare “no makeup” look.
