“They call me hellomellow…”

Donovan’s Mellow Yellow is one of my favorite oldies, and today’s skincare line, hellomellow, reminds me of that happy, mellow tune. This Green Monday review brings a new name to wht, an uplifting, cheerful presence to your daily routine… and a new twist on an old song to belt out in the shower!

With names like uplift, relax, rejuvenate, revitalize, balance, empower, arouse, and unwind, these eco-friendly, uniquely scented products inspire good feelings as well as tunes. I love when companies use emotions to represent scents. I can easily choose a scent by what mood I’m trying to achieve. Having a horrible week, aim for uplift or rejuvenate ~ hellomellow removes the guesswork of aromatherapy.

And if you’re looking for green body products, the signature ingredients in this eco-friendly line are avocado and mango butter. You’ll find these two nourishing fruits packed inside each and every product along with essential oils and other natural, good stuff.

Even better, hellomellow products are free of preservatives, chemical fillers, artificial fragrances and detergents. That means you don’t have to worry about layering these scents for added oomph! Go ahead and layer at will.

The wht review team recently received travel size body butters, body oils and butter scrubs in a range of scents to put to the test:

The body butter minis (.25 oz, $6) are the perfect size for a purse, tote or backpack. I tried the scent revitalize, a mix of geranium and lavender. A strange pairing it would seem but the result is something complex and interesting. My wife said it reminded her of bergamot. I think it’s the perfect scent for people who don’t like highly floral scents.

The butter itself is moisturizing and sinks right into the skin. The avocado and mango butter worked to keep my skin soft for hours, yet after applying it on my hands I could easily type without worrying about oily keys! Big bonus points for the lack of greasy residue ~ a drawback in most butters.

Honestly at first, I did not like the body oil. I have dry skin and figured I should use this oil straight out of the bottle on my legs. It ended up feeling like a gooey mess. I decided to try it again a few days later, this time on my legs immediately after a shower while my skin was still soaking wet. Perfect! Mixing with the water from my shower this oil slide over my skin and sunk in while I dried off. My skin absorbed the nourishing oil and my legs felt soft and moist all day.

My travel size body oil (2oz, $12, 8oz, $28) came in uplift, a mix of pink and white grapefruit with vanilla. This scent reminds me of summer, light and a little sweet.

My favorite of this trio is the body butter scrub (22 oz, $36) that I tested in empower. This revitalizing scent is a blend of of peppermint, eucalyptus, rosemary and marjoram. Mint fans should like this one! I adore that I can pick out the rosemary, which is one of my favorite herbs to use in cooking.

This body scrub dissolves easily in the shower but gives you a little scrubbing time without feeling like gravel. Body scrubs are essential in my shower since I have keratosis pilaris on my upper arms and thighs. Scrubs help exfoliate that area and smooth out my skin, and hellomellow’s scrub did this job well.

Another main component of this fight against KP is moisturizing. Once again, hellomellow’s signature avocado and mango butters offer that moisturizing punch during the scrub, thus allowing me to skip a step in my skincare routine. Woot.

For more green goodies, you can check out hellomellow online to find their aromic and nourishing products. One item I have my eye on are the lip butters; I’m craving the scent arouse , a mix of clove, ginger, cinnamon and cocoa butter – yum!

Pros:
awesome emotion-inspired scents
just the right scent strength – no headaches!
free of preservatives, parabens or synthetic fragrances
cute bright, packaaging

Cons:
a little pricey for some

  1. I have the body butter scrub in balance, the body oil in revitalize and the body butter mini also in revitalize.

I should reword “have” for the body butter scrub to “had” because I already finished it! I really loved it, although I’m not entirely sure I can afford to buy another one at $36. A little upsetting for me!

The body oil is really nice – I’ve never tried body oil before so I think this was a good first product to try. I do love the body butter mini though – fits perfectly in your purse, and it isn’t messy like mini bottles of lotion! I’ll probably be picking another one up when I finish mine.

  2. The revitalize scent sounds so intriguing to me, @lucylemonade – I love geranium and lavender separately and can’t imagine what they smell like combined. The lip butters sound great, too!

  3. oooh, the body oils sound great to me.. I use oils often. One of the ones I’ve used for years is Neutrogena body oil. These are a bit high in price. I’m going to check out what’s in them to see if that’s why the cost is up there.

  4. I also got to try a body oil, scrub and mini body butter. The scents in these are amazing, (I got to try Arouse, Revitalize, and Rejuvenate I think) not to strong and not to soft, and they last nicely. I think the body oil is my favorite of the products, I’ve been using it sparingly to make sure its lasts, because I really love it. It’s thicker then other oils I’ve used and that’s what makes it work so well for me. I agree that its much better when applied after a shower to wet skin, and a little goes a long way. The mini body butter has been sitting on my vanity since I received it and getting regular use. Its nice and thick, so a little goes a long way. In the mini jar its also the perfect size for me to rub on my dry elbows and its cured me of any and all flakey skin there. The only product I had a problem with was the scrub. It seemed to be stuck somewhere between a wet scrub and a solid scrub, once I figured out how to use it I liked it, but there was a definite learning curve where I lost a lot of product. Being that its so expensive I wish it had come with a suggested method to use it. Also it wasn’t clear from the packaging if there was a cleanser in the scrub so the first time or 2 I couldn’t remember if I had to wash and then scrub. My skin was definitely smoother after using it, but I’m not sure that I could justify the full purchase price. This is something I would use again but I’d wait to buy it until it was on sale. Over all I’m giving the oil and body butter a solid 4 stars, great scents, good company, awesome ingredients, packaging was a little small for the price. I’m going to give the scrub 3 stars, amazing scent, good results, but I feel like the formula needs a little tweaking.

  5. Ohh, I totally want to try the too arouse lip butter too @lucylemonade – clove, ginger, cinnamon and cocoa butter – wow.

I did not test hellomellow, but I’ll admit it, I love body scrubs and have actually paid almost double for the big name brands of body scrubs. Of course, those days are over for the moment so maybe I’ll splurge on the empower scrub – adding mint just makes it better.

  6. This stuff sounds lovely and it looks like products they would sell at Target even! Wonderful packaging and very clean but fun looking. I am not in the market right now to spend that much on a body product but I do see that it looks like a wonderful product to try.

  7. What cute packaging! The dandelion seeds floating away, I can picture myself sitting in a field somewhere relaxing and making wishes. And those scents sound amazing! If a good sale ever comes around I’ll have to check this brand out. Great review @lucylemonade !
