Herbal Essences Naked Styling products review
Resurging drugstore staple Herbal Essences has been around for practically as long as I can remember. Launched in 1972, the brand was a must-have for many budget-minded beauty lovers in the 90’s. Who could ever forget their memorable commercials?
I will admit that I probably haven’t used many of their products since I was a teenager. So I am happy to report that I recently got a look at the latest from Herbal Essences and that I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the brand continues to grow. The brand’s newest innovation is a trio of Naked collections.
The Naked Volume collection, “provides volume with 0% heavy residues, parabens, and dyes” and these products are infused with white grapefruit and mint extracts.
The Naked Moisture line provides hydration “free of heavy residues, parabens, and dyes…restoring hair’s natural moisture.” The moisture collection softens hair using herbal mint fusion extracts – these extracts smell nice too!
The Naked Shine collection, provides shine, and is infused with white tea and mint extracts. This line is formulated with, you guessed it, “0% heavy residues, parabens, and dyes…to reveal hair’s natural shine.”
I had the pleasure of testing the Herbal Essences Naked Volume Dry Shampoo ($6.99). This unique formula utilizes natural tapioca (mmm…tapioca) to absorb oil, rejuvenate dirty hair and volumize.
I have previously only ever used powder versions of dry shampoo. I truly enjoyed using this spray formula. So far, I have experienced zero mess and no white residue. I have heard that some people have experienced trouble with the nozzle clogging, but I have had zero issues. I also love the refreshing scent; white grapefruit and mint.
This product has truly saved me a few mornings when I haven’t had time to wash my hair. It has absolutely controlled my oil and given me extra volume. My hair has looked fresh and smelled great every time with this dry shampoo. What more could you ask for in a product that’s drugstore priced and available virtually anywhere?
I was also able to test the Naked Shine Sheer Shine Mist ($6.99). According to the brand, this mist adds volume, gives a strong hold, and adds shine. I must be honest, this product confused me. I was not exactly sure what it was meant to do. At first I thought of it as a standard hair spray, but this product does not provide a significant amount of hold. The spray did improve my volume a little bit, but where it really stood out – it provided a lot of shine.
The scent is a refreshing citrus mint. The mist left no stickiness or crunch in my hair and I found the mist pleasant to use. However, I believe that it would be much more useful for someone who more frequently flat irons, uses a curling iron, or blow dries. It is well worth a try for $6.99, and can be found in most drugstores and big box chains.
I was happy to be re-introduced to the Herbal Essences line! I look forward to checking out the plethora of Naked products the next time I stroll the drugstore aisles.

I have only tried the Dry Shampoo from this line and it is very volumizing. Dark haired ladies, do not overspray OR get too close when applying! This stuff smells heavenly too. A fresh citrus mint…mmm!
I actually wrote a review for the Naked shampoo and conditioner on my blog (www.episeofcake.com) a few weeks ago! I really love that they’re silicone and paraben free, but I was not thrilled by the offering of scents. I’d love to try the dry shampoo, though!
Great review—based on your description, I really want to try the dry shampoo!
Yay, so excited to try a new dry shampoo, this one sounds great! And affordable too…
LMAO@ “suddenly wants pudding”—AND NOW I WANT TAPIOCA PUDDING! D’oh!
I’m going to have to check these out. I was so excited to see Herbal Essences come back with the original fragrances that I used growing up and then there was this fiasco where they basically said no sulfates and no silicones, but it was no sulfates in the conditioner and no silicone in the shampoo, which is a bit sneaky, IMO. I’m on a no sulfate/no silicone kick and am constantly looking for new products that fit into my current hair care guidelines. I’ll be looking for these during my next Target run!
This really is a great line! I have repurchased and am still loving the dry shampoo. It is a true time saver when I am in a rush and don’t have time for a wash. Give it a try. You can’t go wrong for the price!
I tried the Herbal Essence dry shampoo awhile back and it is quite tropical smelling! It’s a good product.
