Hourglass Cosmetics’ Veil and Illusion does a magic act on skin
I’ve never used anything by Hourglass Cosmetics that I didn’t love unconditionally. So, I squealed with happiness when I saw not one but TWO of their products in my mailbox to review for we heart this.
Hourglass always gets it right, down to the tiniest details. Even the cardboard of their outer packaging has a warm glow. The actual product packaging is always well-designed and modern, the kind of cosmetics I’m proud to leave out on my vanity…and the products inside always live up to their presentation.
Just last week, Hourglass released a liquid version of their Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick (much to the delight of its cult following). While we wait to hear the verdict on it, the third full coverage product in their line, let’s look at their medium coverage foundation and the primer that works with them all.
In case you haven’t met, allow me to introduce you to Veil Mineral Primer ($54, 1 oz.) and Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint ($56, 1 oz.), a duo that transformed the look of my skin instantly.
Right now we’re in the middle of a cold east coast winter. My skin is parched and most foundations look patchy and dry on me. Nothing helped until I used Veil.
Veil feels like it hovers above imperfections
I used to think that primer was unnecessary and I rarely bothered with it before trying Veil. Now, I reach for it automatically. Beyond the amazing way Veil makes my skin feel, it seems to literally lock any makeup applied over it into place. Even after an entire day of wear, my makeup looks fresh and crease-free.
Speaking of makeup, Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint is Hourglass’ stellar medium coverage treatment foundation. This anti-aging makeup aims to smooth and improve signs of aging, like fine lines, wrinkles, and even sagging skin. The formula is rich, creamy and extremely concentrated.
With Illusion, less is definitely more. The coverage is extremely flattering thanks to Hyaluronan Complex; a form of hyaluronic acid that plumps and tightens skin while filling in deep wrinkles. Pearlescent pigments are added to give the finish a slight glow.
The color range contains twelve options, some of which seem to be sold out everywhere. I will say the colors are very forgiving. My NC20 (warm) skin looks great with Ivory; a light medium with a cool undertone. The product is fragrance free and also contains broad spectrum SPF 15 sun protection.
Veil Mineral Primer and way too much Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint in Ivory; this amount could cover your whole face!
Research results are in line with my rave review. After a 2 week trial of Illusion, 30 women had this to say:
- 100% reported an improvement in the look of skin’s firmness and smoothness
- 100% said fine lines and wrinkles seemed reduced
- 96% reported a noticeable increase in skin’s radiance
The combination of Veil and Illusion has effectively banished winter from my complexion. Hourglass calls the look a “supernatural glow,” and they’re right… instead of dry and lackluster, my skin looks firm and luminous.
