January Labs Power Peel Exfoliant – Swatches and Review

Every wonderful thing in life reminds me of a song, but this was probably the first time that Neil Young appeared on my mind’s Happiness Playlist. There I was, belting this out in the shower as I rinsed January Labs’ Glow and Go Power Peel Exfoliant off of my face, neck and chest:

I wanna live
with a cinnamon girl
I could be happy
the rest of my life
With a cinnamon girl

Obviously, Neil Young and smooth-as-silk skin do not go hand and hand, but it’s the cinnamon that brought us together. To paraphrase Neil, I could be happy the rest of my life with a cinnamon glow – and skin that feels this soft and looks this radiant.

January Labs’ Glow and Go Power Peel Exfoliant ($75) harnesses the power of cinnamon oil to exfoliate skin and stimulate circulation. This one-step treatment makes big promises, including reduction of pore size and uneven skin tone.

Founder January Olds spent years working for a top skincare line, learning what customers needed and pinpointing what was missing from the market. This led to her Laguna Beach, California based company, January Labs. Instead of relying on dozens of products and fads like most luxury skincare lines, January Labs features a small range of skin care essentials containing simple yet very active ingredients. Oh, and adorable packaging – isn’t the box fab?

The result: rapid change in the skin. And by rapid, I mean a drastic improvement with just one use.

The first thing I noticed when I opened the jar of Glow and Go Power Peel Exfoliant was the thick, jelly-like consistency of the mask. As I spread it over my freshly cleaned face-to-décolletage, I smelled the earthy, pungent cinnamon. My skin immediately started to feel warm and tingly as the mask dried. This tightening heat effect lasted until I jumped into the shower, singing, the recommended 15 minutes later.

When I emerged, my skin was a little red, but this effect was temporary. What lasted was soft, glowing, healthy-looking skin that felt smoother than it had in months. I couldn’t believe how effective just one application was.

Glow and Go Power Peel Exfoliant gave me all the benefits of a peel without irritation, even with repeated use. Yes, it might seem a little pricey, but the jar will last awhile, and I will purchase another when it’s gone. I love peels, and with its cinnamon power, Glow and Go Power Peel Exfoliant is my favorite peel ever!

  1. The second I saw a cool song reference, I knew this was a Melissa review–love it! And I’m really excited about this mask; I mix cinnamon into yogurt for DIY masks and occasionally use it to exfoliate, but to have it in a peel form? HEAVEN. This is going to top of my “need” list.

And my favorite Neil Young song? I’m partial to “Needle and the Damage Done.” (I like depressing songs, what can I say?)

  2. I am SO intrigued, a peel without actually being a peel?!? I want it. But $75…but I WANT…

And sorry, I know this is blasphemy, but I’m not a Neil Young fan. MAYBE Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, just not his solo work. (Please still love me, @turboterp.)

  3. Honestly, @lyssachelle , I wouldn’t call myself a Neil Young fan either, which why it was so funny that I found myself singing “Cinnamon Girl.”

If I had to choose a favorite song, I’m 100% with you, @amity — “Needle and the Damage Done” is a feel-bad classic.

As much as I love this fabulous peel, I would not use it in the sensitive eye area.

  4. I only tested this product once on my hand (photographer’s duty) but I was really surprised by the power it had for so few ingredients. Cinnamon, who knew? Fab in coffee, fab for your face…er, hand! I loved the consistency too, gels always get me. As does good packaging.

I’m def. planning to check out more from the line.

Oh, and @turboterp – nicely done on the Neil Young!

  5. This seems like a very cool product! I’ll have to research the company but everything about this sounds like something I really need in my life!

  6. At that price, I’d sure hope you see some good results :P But it sounds like a fabulous product and I’m really tempted to splurge, especially because it SMELLS LIKE CINNAMON, and didn’t irritate your skin! I get a little nervous about warming face products though.

  7. I’m addicted to peels or non-peels that give peel results. I’ll be having to check this out. I will probably wait until cooler months, though, because the cinnamon scent would be awesome then :)
