I LOVE that one of my favorite lipsticks, the Jordana Modern Matte Lipstick (available here), is only about half of the price of my morning latte.

As a makeup (and latte) fan, that’s a deal that’s hard to beat.

At just $2.49 each, these lipsticks get me a ton of compliments AND they come in a dozen beautiful shades.

The price, formula, and color options are enough to make a girl swoon!

While a lipstick that sets you back less than three dollar bills sounds like it might not be entirely suitable for a mature adult to wear, in recent years there has been a fantastic outpouring of incredibly inexpensive makeup products that actually rival products that cost five to ten times more.

I like to think of it this way: there are “cheap” cosmetics, and there are “budget-friendly” cosmetics.

“Cheap” cosmetics are cheap in terms of price, and also cheaply made – usually lacking in quality.

And then there are “budget-friendly” cosmetics – products that don’t break the bank, but have the same length of wear, textures, color options, and/or packaging as their more expensive counterparts.

And that’s where Jordana falls.

Jordana is already a favorite of the we heart this review team – their 12HR Made to Last Liquid Eyeliner and Eyeshadow Pencils were given rave reviews by all of our testers.

And I can say hands down that the Jordana Modern Matte lipsticks (available here) are just as amazing.

The team got a look at all twelve available shades, of which I tested five:

Jordana Modern Matte Lipstick Review

01 Matte Bare – rosy nude with a slight shimmer
02 Matte Blush – pink nude
03 Matte Frappuccino – medium brown
04 Matte Tease – warm medium pink
05 Matte Classy – mauvey pink

I found Matte Blush to be a lovely nude that’s “just right.” Not too light, not too dark, just a nice little nude.

06 Matte Adorable – cool, bright light orchid
07 Matte Popular – hot pink
08 Matte It Girl – bright fuchsia
09 Matte Dare – bright berry

Matte Popular is a fun bright pink that falls somewhere in between hot pink and bubble gum.

I’m honestly more of a lipgloss kind of gal than a lipstick kind of gal.

When I do decide to go bold and throw on some lipstick, I like to stick with a classic, long-wearing matte shade in a bold color.

I like products that I can throw on and trust that it’ll stay there until I’m ready to take it off (although I will still obsessively do touch-ups every hour anyway).

That said my favorite lipsticks are MAC Retro Matte lipstick, MAC Pro Longwear lip creme, and Wet n Wild Mega Last because they meet all of my requirements.

Jordana falls into the middle – it has better, sturdier packaging than Wet N Wild.

It has a nice faintly vanilla scent, highly pigmented formula, and long lasting matte finish, much like MAC’s.

I was really amazed at how well it stayed put, even after eating and drinking, and without any lipliner.

10 Matte Pretty – peachy apricot shimmer
11 Matte Caliente – red orange
12 Matte Style – blue-based red

I think Matte Pretty will get a lot of wear this spring. It’s a flattering deep apricot with a touch of terracotta.

All of Jordana’s color options were lovely, but I particularly loved Matte Style. If you’ve been wanting to try a gorgeous retro matte red lip a la Mad Men, you need this shade!

All in all, I was very happy with my testing experience with the Jordana Modern Matte Lipsticks.

There’s a nice color selection, the pigmentation is strong, and while it wasn’t “moisturizing,” the matte formula is comfortable and not drying at all.

I’m totally in love with Jordana Modern Matte lipsticks and can’t wait to buy a few more.

woow style is soooo 1940ties hope they bring it over here , we dont get all the usa products

  2. I love Matte Bare the best for me personally, but all of the colors look outstanding. Love the 90’s looking packaging too..

  3. I tested the Matte Caliente! It is a beautiful orange-rec that goes really well with my skin tone. I was very happy with the feel, color & wear I got out of this. Jordana has wonderful products for very little money. Win in my book!

  4. I tested 04 Matte Tease, a light, rosy neutral that is perfect for daytime. I would have never guessed that $2.50 could buy me a lipstick that looks and wears better than certain $25 lipsticks that are gathering dust in my drawer. Matte Tease has creamy, full coverage that did not budge. Seriously, I put it on in the morning and did not reapply, and it was still on at the end of the day. For a longwearing matte, it wasn’t drying at all. I love the packaging, and the light scent reminds me of MAC lipsticks. I can’t wait to track down at least a few more colors!

    1. I wish these weren’t drying on me, but Matte Tease was so uncomfortable and dried the heck out of my normally fine lips. :( I actually threw it away.

  5. Matte Bare and Matte Tease look like my kind of colors for sure! I tested out Matte Adorable and I actually thought it was a pretty nice formula and color intensity for the price. I found putting it on top of a Chapstick base softened it up and left me with a nice subtle lip. This color was a bright, cooler pop of pink, but very pretty!

I would like to order o3 and 10. How do I do that?
