Green Monday math: Botanical Science + Indonesian Tradition = AMAZING!
Many of you were introduced to Juara in a past Green Monday feature and through their generous support of our annual Raffle for the Rescues. For those of you new to the brand, Juara epitomizes the best of the best in luxurious, rich green products.
Founded by four friends who were looking to create a line that combined their Western upbringing with their Asian ancestry, this skincare line truly represents effective skincare at its finest. As for me, I think that best part of Juara is that they combine so many natural and rich ingredients in their products. They’re jam packed with good stuff and free of parabens, sulfates, phthatates and artificial colorants, and they are also 100% vegetarian!
We’ve got two Juara products to examine today. First up, the Tamarind Tea Hydrating Toner ($27) was a pleasant surprise. Referred to as the “skin quencher” this toner can be used in place of a moisturizer, to stay completely oil free.
It contains powerful anti-oxidant tea extracts, which also have anti-bacterial properties. Plus the Tamarind seed extract has strong hydrating properties (it’s been used for centuries in Indonesia for medicinal purposes). The rice bran extract helps calm skin and reduce redness. This toner is alcohol free, oil free and fragrance free, so for those of you out there looking for a very gentle product for sensitive skin, this is it!
I used the Tamarind Tea Toner after my cleanser at night and in the morning, without adding any additional moisturizer. I found it to be soothing and calming and it left my skin soft and hydrated. This toner is perfect for use during the hot, sticky summer months when I can’t bear the thought of moisturizer. It’s a very mild gentle toner and a nice break from my routine.
Bonus: Juara also says this toner can be used after micro-dermabrasion applications, waxing and shaving. I did try a little on my legs after shaving, which greatly reduced dryness and chafing… what a great alternate use!
I also had the pleasure of trying out some samples of the Invigorating Coffee Scrub ($37) and I must say, the coffee scrub is one big wake up call in the morning!
Packed with an intense coffee aroma from the ground dark roasted coffee beans, this scrub is as dark as mud and very rich. Caffeine is known to provide antioxidant benefits and will energize and tighten the skin. (On a “Dr. OZ” episode I recently watched, he noted that caffeine also helps with cellulite.) I didn’t have anywhere near enough scrub to cover the surface area of “dimples” on my body but I would definitely like to try this scrub on a more continuous basis to see if it has an effect!
The scrub is also filled with walnut shell grains to provide super-strong exfoliating power. In my limited use of the sample, I noticed a definite smoothing result from it. I really enjoyed this scrub and found it to be a turbo charged form of my normal, milder exfoliators.
All in all the products I tried were natural, rich and filled with amazing beneficial ingredients. On the down side, some could feel these are a little pricey ~ for those on a budget this is always a sacrifice for quality ingredients. In my limited testing time with these samples, I was impressed and would like to try more that Juara has to offer!

I love, love Juara’s Rice Facial Cleanser. It is really great for my sensitive, oily, acne, acne prone skin. It is very gentle yet effective!
I would love to try this scrub and toner. They sound great!
@spitfire77 –Great review. I was one of the lucky testers of this product. Toner has never been at the top of my “must purchase list”. But, this product is so much more than some of the plain jane toners I have tried in the past. It helped moisturize my combination sensitive skin, it was calming and may have even reduced my redness. I was very impressed that it was thick and concentrated enough that I could put several drops in my palm and apply it to my entire face. I did not waste a drop by using a cotton ball. (I HATE WASTE.)
The scrub was a very unique texture and thickness. It kind of reminded me of a thick chocolate coffee brownie batter. I used about a teaspoon every time I used it on my face. This mixture pretty much dissolves completely on your face sans a few coffee grounds. (This is important to me because I hate trying to get off multiple grains of my face. Sometimes this can be a bit labor intensive.) If you are someone who likes food scents this is for you.
All in all, these products are made with quality ingredients in the USA and are long lasting.
Four stars.

I really enjoyed Juara and would like to try some of their other products! I give it 4 stars just because of price…
I enjoyed the toner. The graphics on the bottle are nice and splashing it on my face felt soothing. I’ve never been one for toners in general, but this one is excellent.
The gem however for me was the coffee scrub. It has now become my holy-grail scrub. I will be purchasing this after my sample is out. The smell is amazing! I am a coffee addict and this scrub wakes me up. I just want to roll around in it. I also love really scrubby-scrubs (if that makes sense). This coffee scrub tones down my kp and makes my arms and thighs feel soft and smooth. I can’t gush enough about this scrub! 5 Stars!
I got to sample both Juara products and loved them! First, the scrub–I’m a coffee fiend, and the Invigorating Coffee Scrub is amazing for the scent alone. It really is a heavy-duty scrub that’s great for summer, when my skin can take more exfoliation. I’ve used it on my face, neck and chest, and when I inevitably purchase the full-size product, I’ll be using it on my body as well.
@lucylemonade , I want to roll around in it, too!
I’ve been using the Tamarind Tea Hydrating Toner instead of a heavy night cream and it really is a nice, soothing break from my normal routine. I didn’t think of using it after shaving—- thanks for the info, @spitfire77 ! Great post!
Even though they’re a bit pricey, 5 stars for both products.
These sound wonderful!! With my love of coffee, tea and scrubs – color me green!! Great review, Erin!
I tested the Tamarind Tea Toner, as well as the Invigorating Coffee Scrub. I was underwhelmed by both.
PROS: Nice packaging, especially the style and decorations. The scent of the scrub is nice and strong–like coffee beans.
CONS: The toner did nothing for me, nothing at all. It was neither hydrating nor drying, nor did it calm my acne prone skin. The scrub is REALLY thick and a little scratchy. The price of both are a bit high in my opinion.
As with some other Juara products (such as their black tea lip treatment), I love the idea of the product, but find that their execution falls short. I give these products 3 stars.
I have the Tamarind Tea Toner from Juara and apparently, I was using it all wrong and treating it like your usual run-of-the-mill toner…Thanks for the info @spitfire77. Great post!
A toner that can take the place of a moisturizer?! Now that’s impressive, and it makes the price much easier to swallow when there’s one less product to buy.
I love scrubs, especially coffee scrubs, and this one sounds amazing. Kinda pricey, but amazing. I’m going to have to be on the lookout for these products. Great post @spitfire77 !
I love love love the Juara Coffee Scrub!! Got it off ebeauty.ca and a bit nervous that it would be really tiny or I would use it all up right away (which would be bad considering the price), but it ended up lasting me a really long time.
The coffee scrub is awesome – my skin looks so refreshed. I don’t drink coffee, but now my skin does. :)
