Kat Von D is no wallflower. From her tattoos, to her makeup, to her hair and clothing, Kat has a truly distinctive and BOLD style, and a personality to match. And while her line of beauty products, which are exclusive to Sephora, definitely reflect that, there’s something for nearly everyone in her collection. And I literally mean nearly everyone–even my grandma, who is in her 70’s, wears Kat Von D lipstick. Even better–her favorite shade is Backstage Bambi, a “vivid hot pink” that’s nearly fluorescent. The color is nearly impossible to find. It’s basically her unicorn of makeup products–so much so that she nearly went into a panic when it seemed that the shade was going to be discontinued. No joke.

I’ve been curious to see if I would love the Kat Von D lip products as much as my grandma does. After all, I fell in love with makeup as a kid, watching her put on her lipstick and letting me pretend to do the same with a capped tube of lipstick.

The Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick ($21) with its studded black lipstick tube, monogrammed lipstick bullet and faint crème brûlée fragrance appeals to me–and I especially love that it’s available in nearly 40 shades! The formula was fabulous as well: it applied smoothly, was super pigmented and felt comfortable to wear on my lips. There was no bleeding or feathering, and it wore comfortably for several hours before needing a touch up. I would say the length of wear is similar to to other matte lipsticks.

Studded Kiss Lipstick in Magick is demurely described as “sweet dusty pink”… that’s a serious understatement because it’s the most awesome dusty pink I’ve ever seen. It’s not too dark, and not too light, opaque and matte, with just the right amount of shimmery sparkle to it. I’m obsessed with it–it’s definitely my favorite nude at the moment.

Halo is described as “neon clementine,” a gorgeous fiery orange with orange shimmer so intense, it almost has a metallic feel to it. It’s beautiful and bold.

Mother is a gorgeous “dusty mauve pink”, and Nosferatu is a “blood crimson”shade–a beautiful dark red that is classic with a touch of vamp. I love how easy these were to apply, perfectly opaque with one coat. They were very comfortable to wear also, with an even slightly better length of wear than the Studded Kiss Lipsticks. These will definitely be my go-to choice for a liquid lipstick!

  1. Your grandma sounds like a stylish bad ass. Nosferatu looks so pretty on you–I might have to get my hands on it. I love KVD’s Lock It foundation when I need heavy coverage, and her Tattoo Liner is a daily must have.

  2. Knowing that your grandma’s signature shade is Backstage Bambi makes my day! She sounds like a great beauty influence! I love the way Magick looks on you. I could definitely use that kind of dusty pink!
