Kiehl’s Rare Earth Pore Minimizing collection

This is a true story. The other day I saw a tiny man in a miner’s hat run across my nose and jump into a pore. Ok…that’s not true. But it could be! I swear, the older I get, the larger my pores seem to grow. Combine that with my oily skin and I feel like I’m fighting a losing battle.

And who comes in to save the day? Why, Kiehl’s of course! You know we have a huge love for them already. But with the introduction of the Rare Earth Pore Minimizing collection my love has grown to epic depths!

These products were made for me, and all of you normal to oily skin people too. And if you’re like me, you love the feel of a product with mud or clay in it for it’s ability to absorb oil like a sponge. That’s exactly what you’ll find in this collection; Amazonian White Clay, and because it’s Kiehl’s, it’s fairly traded too. It’s from Marajo Island in South America. The clay is gathered at the mouth of the Amazon River at the beginning of the dry season, after months of being nourished by the leaves, fruits and seeds swept down the river from the rainforest.

This collection of four products works to remove dirt, toxins, excess oil and dead cells that can clog skin and result in enlarged pores. And apparently, enlarged and clogged pores aren’t just oily skin issues. Those with aging skin can often be affected (so I’m doomed on two fronts!)

If you can use all four products together, they work beautifully, like a well-oiled, oil-fighting machine. But the two that really stood out for me (the two products I went out and bought after my samples ran dry) were…

Deep Pore Daily Cleanser – Mild, yet foaming (Hooray, this girl needs bubbles) the Amazonian White Clay is combined with finely crushed Diatomaceous Earth to really clean your skin. This feels like a clay masque, that rich mud feeling, only with lots of lather. LOVE this. My skin felt so amazingly clean after just one use.

And the…

Pore Minimizing Lotion – not so much a moisturizer as a mattifier, and an amazing one at that! You will not believe what this does to your skin. It literally makes oil disappear like magic. Added to the same two ingredients as the cleanser are Oat Kernel Flour (for further absorption) and Aloe (to soothe).

Big thumbs up for the other two in the collection as well:

Pore Cleansing Masque (everything you want in a masque) and Pore Refining Tonic (a toner in which you can feel the clay).

So, if you too want to send those tiny spelunkers packing, I highly recommend these products.

(a 4.5 average from me, 5 stars for my top two picks and 4 stars for the others)

  1. I have to try this!! Do you think sensitive skin can handle it? I have to hit my closes Kiehl’s counter for some samples!!

  2. I LOVE KIEHL’S!!! This sounds wonderful – I agree with Christy on the sensitive skin issue – but that’s one of the best things about Kiehl’s – they’re so generous with their samples. I’m going to check this out too. One thing I know I need immediately is the mild yet foaming Deep Pore Daily Cleanser!!

  3. Ohh, this is a Kiehl’s line I can’t wait to check out! Which is pretty much what I always say when Kiehl’s rolls out a new product – I drool over anything Kiehl’s.

BUT, this one is extra special because I too love mud products – especially masks. It just soaks up oils and yucky stuff while freshening my skin. My bathroom medicine cabinet houses about 7 different types of mud masks right now,but none of them are “prefect”. Can’t wait to see how this one measures up!

  4. Oh I’m whoozie over this line and it’s not my flu medicine that is causing my whooziness. I was just staring at my pores yesterday. On one of my few trips out of bed I saw my reflection in the mirror and scared myself. I’m very pale due to illness and I notice that my pores are gigantic! Like Stef I’ve got oily skin too. Is just recently jumped in the anit-aging skin care bandwagon but those products don’t really help with pore minimizing. Stef, can you use the foaming wash with the Clarisonic? I noticed your post says finely crushed particles, I it does it’s not a show stopper for me as my current face face wash can’t be used with it either. I can’t wait to be in the city next week to try this line, I love mud and clay products.

  5. Susan, The cleanser holds up really well with the Clarisonic (that’s always a test for me too!) It’s moved up to my #1 Kiehl’s cleanser.

Christy and Mel, I’m not sure how this would work for you sensitive ladies. I want to say fine, because I trust Kiehl’s so much, but sometimes mud/clay masks can sting my non-sensitive face a bit. So, get samples and let us know.
