Our love affair with the French beauty fave continues…

Le Métier de Beauté True Colour Eye Shadow and Coromandel Collection Nail Lacquerphotos: we heart this

We here at weheartthis love, love, love Le Métier de Beauté. I am a person who has tried most cosmetic brands on the market and I am well versed in what is out there, so trust me when I say that there is just something about this brand that just gets it so right.

Everything I’ve used of theirs is almost impossibly chic and on trend, if not ahead of the trend and the quality really gives the impression of luxury. High-end cosmetics are a splurge for me, but Le Métier de Beauté is a true splurge. There is a noticeable specialness to their products. Case in point, their eye shadows.

For me, many high-end eye shadows seem fairly basic to me – yes, they are finely milled, some fun colors, of obvious quality, but still just eye shadow. I am usually not a person that gets wowed by eye shadow, until I tried Le Métier de Beauté’s True Colour Eye Shadowicon ($30).

In the pans, they seemed like your run-of-the-mill high-end eye shadow. Once on, they became a whole other animal. They seemingly change from the color in the pan into a multi-dimensional shade with so many different nuances and subtleties. In short, they are glorious.

At first glance, Corinthian seemed like your average neutral brownish shade in the pan, and once on, it became deep beige and taupe, grey and purple. This shade seemed to transform depending on the lighting I was in and what color top I was wearing. It was kind of magical. I’ve never used an eye shadow where I got more than what was in the pan. These shadows were nothing short of a revelation.

Meanwhile Fire Lily is an intimidating shimmering red in the pan, but once on, transformed into a shade that was both bronze and burgundy, sometimes pink and red. Again, it seemed to change depending on the lighting I was in and what colors I was wearing. It was also incredibly flattering, something I never imagined considering in the pan it looks like exotic clown makeup.

On top of getting to try out these covet-worthy and highly collectible eye shadows, I got to try out half of Le Métier de Beauté’s fall collection of Orient-inspired Coromandel Collection Nail Lacquers. The new collection is a collaboration between Neiman Marcus’s Fashion Director, Ken Downing, and Le Métier de Beauté, which can only be fabulous and fashionable.

Coromandel Collection Nail Lacquers

The collection is made up of 4 well-edited shades ($18 each) that manage to be both bold and neutral at the same time and I got to test two of the shades:

Cloison-Navy – a blackened cobalt meets navy opaque cream
Saucey Plum – a deep and dark plum with a hint of oxblood

While the shades are similar to ones I already have; they manage to stand out and surpass their counterparts in my polish collection. I’m officially hooked.

Coromandel Collection Nail Lacquers in a deep and dark plum with a hint of oxblood

Saucey Plum takes the oxblood nail trend and adds a hint of purple to it, the end result being the darkest shade of plum with a hint of burgundy imaginable. Saucey Plum required 2 coats for even coverage.

Cloison-Navy is the darkest navy you can get without being black and I only required one coat to get glossy, glamorous nails.

Both shades were deeply saturated in pigment and impossibly glossy – I didn’t even require a top coat. My wear time was 2-3 days for each before the first chip appeared, which is slightly better than average for me.

Pros:
Eye shadows are more complex in color than what appears in the pan.
Nail polishes are so dark and pigmented–they are truly swoon-worthy.

Cons:
$30 is a bit spendy for a single eye shadow pan. It limits my ability to collect all of them, which I very much want to do now *pouts*
Nail polishes are LIMITED EDITION – the bane of my existence. (I inevitably love limited edition items so much that when they are gone, I mourn them. A lot.)

Overall, Le Métier de Beauté continues to impress and I can’t wait to try even more products from them. Like, ALL of them…

  1. I received a bottle of Le Metier De Beaute nail lacquer to test. I can’t find a name on the bottle, but I’m pretty sure it’s Indo-sheen Red from this collection. In any case, this is officially my favorite red polish of all time (and that’s saying something considering I’m a red addict from wayyy back). The lacquer is thin and fast-drying, yet so pigment-rich that one coat is almost opaque. Two coats are flawless, and with a top coat, I’ve gotten almost a week without a chip. And I’ve been wearing it on my toes for over two weeks and my pedicure still looks fresh! The color is a bright, clear, ruby red that’s just right. I’m sorry to hear these colors are limited edition because I wouldn’t hesitate to splurge on another bottle. It’s perfection!

And @krista , thanks to you, I’m obsessing over Corinthian. I love the way you describe the dimensions of the color… very tempting!

    1. @turboterp , You’re welcome! Now I want Indo-Sheen. I think we’re even? Seriously, though, EVERYONE kinda needs Corinthian. I hate when people tell me I need something, but this is one instance where it’s warranted.

  2. @krista – Great review on this wonderful rich colors. I have not tried this line yet. But, I really want to now that I have read this review. I love a great, high quality polish.

    1. You won’t be disappointed, then. These are THE balls! (That’s high praise from me. I keep it classy.)

  3. I haven’t had the chance to try this brand yet, but I completely understand when you say that some companies just get it right. I have listed these products on my “Can’t Live Without” list for the time being. I love the fact that the shadows are multi-dimensional; it’s a hard-to-find quality, one I rarely see. For the last fifteen years my shadow splurge has been Christian Dior. No matter what shades I use, they virtually apply themselves and are highly flattering. Ah, and the polishes . . . Let me go back and see exactly how much “extra” I can squeeze out of our checking account . . .

    1. Dior does make some fabulous shadows (I have more than my fair share, too :) )…these are of similar quality. They apply like butter and stay put. And the colors are to die for. *swoons*

  4. I am going to jump on the band wagon here. Corinthian looks A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! I must try it asap. And the polish looks lovely as well!

    1. You may need Corinthian. I’m just sayin’.

  5. I adore their nail polished (actually, I adore their everything) but those eyeshadows look like pure silk. I want them made into a dress.

    1. Fire Lily would be an amazing dress…

  6. Great review and that mirror looks huge! As soon as I read your description and before I read all the comments I said to myself ” I NEED Corinthian!!!” I have not had the pleasure of trying this line yet, and I think that shadow needs to be my first splurge!

  7. I haven’t tried Le Metier de Beaute yet, but Corinthian just looks gorgeous! I’m not sure I can afford to try it… I’d probably want to collect them all.

  8. If their eyeshadows are anything like their fabulous lipsticks I want to try Firelily immediately!

  9. All of this (and ALL of the Le Metier de Beaute that I’ve seen on wht) is beautiful. A truly gorgeous brand who does color and quality so well!

  10. I am swooning for Corinthian for sure…. It’s a gorgeous color and exactly one I would wear regularly!

  11. I did a post with a group and we had to pick our favorite taupe eyeshadow and Corinthian was my choice. It’s a fabulous color and the texture is to die for.

Le Metier polishes are outstanding. I’m wearing a green one as I’m typing and two weeks ago I wore a different blue. They look as good on day 7 as on day 1.

  12. Corintian is gorgeous, but I NEED Fire Lily! I think I get more compliments when I wear a burgandy eyeshadow than any other time, it just brightens up my face in a surprising way. I love how Fire Lily has such a depth of color.
