Attention wehearters, I have an important Love Alert to share with you today, the one and only stila hair refresher. This little bottle is one of my most trusted products and imo, is a beauty cabinet must-have.

This super fine powder is essential for those with limp locks and/or oily hair. Not quite a dry shampoo, but waaay better than baby powder, stila’s oil-absorbing powder is your answer to a bad hair day, an unexpected night out, and even, oversleeping.

When hair is in need of a quick lift, and you don’t have time to wash (none the less dry and style) your hair, it’s stila to the rescue! This powder, available in two light scents, jade blossom and creme bouquet instantly refreshes wilted, tired, even greasy hair with the flip of its cap!

The stila hair refresher ($28) is not only a fabulous product, it’s also housed in a simple, but oh-so-smart-package. Once the cap is flipped open (it’s attached, so you’ll never lose it), a soft squeeze is all you need to dispense a mist of powder. The clever little applicator tip is angled (so that you can get into the roots of your hair) and has just one hole on one side, so there is never any mess.

You can angle the tip into you hair and apply directly into roots or (as I do) puff a bit into palms and work into the hair. Either way, the fine white powder absorbs almost instantly into your hair with no residue. I have dark brown hair (just a few shades from black) and have never had any issues with the hair refresher looking ashy or powdery in my hair. And while other dry shampoos have left my hair and scalp looking and feeling parched, the stila refresher never dries me out.

Choose wisely when deciding between the two lovely scents, as a bottle of stila hair refresher lasts a long time (I get close to two years out of each bottle). If you want a fresh scent go with the jade blossom scent, a “cool, green tea floral” that reminds me of the faint smell of a bar of soap on just washed skin. If you like a warmer scent, try the creme bouquet with vanilla and amber notes. This cult favorite scent, long unavailable, has just returned to the stila shelves due to customer demand.

A few squirts of this miracle powder in either scent leaves my hair smelling fresh, looking clean and with visibly more volume. For after work freshening before heading out for drinks, to lazy Sunday morning coffee runs, and every hair emergency in between, the stila hair refresher is my best friend. This has been a we heart this Love Alert.

  1. I am a huge Stila fan!! This hair refresher sounds great. The whole baby powder thing has never worked for me. I would love to give this a try. It could be a huge time saver for me.

  2. LOVE stila Hair refresher. I’ve flirted around with other dry shampoos and always come back to this. The dispenser is the best, it’s perfect.

  3. You’re making me want to try this too, @tyna! And I’m kindof turned off to these types of products after trying another company’s version that was supposed to be the “best thing ever!” The powder is just gross feeling to me and makes me feel like I’m constantly covered in a dusting of it whenever I’ve used it – my dark hair and the rest of me. But since it worked for your dark hair and didn’t dry you out, maybe I should give it a try – it sure is a great idea.

  4. Oh wow, I wish I had this a little over a year ago! I had a pretty bad motorcycle accident in the summer of 2009 that resulted in 8 staples in my scalp and therefore no hair washing for a week. One- that’s gross because there were *ahem* bodily fluids and iodine all through my hair and two- they only dry shampoo I could find then smelled like bad baby powder and made me look a little grandma-ish. Don’t tell, but I made one of the doctors I worked with pull my staples early and let me wash my hair!

While I covet the idea of dry shampoo or hair refresher, I’m not sure I can ever really get behind it. I’m a “shower every day” kind of girl, I just don’t feel right until I shower! Plus, my curly hair cannot take a morning without washing, it just looks bad.
Still, I’m totally keeping this product in mind just in case I incur any more head injuries (don’t laugh, it’s kinda common for me…) and as a gift for my dry shampoo loving friends! Not to mention- the packaging is waaaaaaay cuter than any product like it that I’ve ever seen!

  5. I’ve always wanted to try a dry shampoo, but have been afraid that it wouldn’t work on my short hair. Usually when I wake up my hair is plasted to one side and the other is a puffy mess. I wonder if this would tame my hair?

  6. @tyna, I love the way you end this. “This has been a we heart this Love Alert.” I love it! I have never used this product and will gladly go looking for it now. Occasionally, I’ll use a dry shampoo but never really care for how my hair feels or looks. I was glad you mentioned that you liked the way it looked and the ease of using it. I would definitely try the creme bouquet with vanilla and amber notes. A very big thank you for this products thumbs up!

  7. This sounds perfect! I just got bangs and I feel like the powder would make them look fresher on the daily!
My great friend, @turboterp gave me a can of Pssssst which is great..how does the Stila compare? Has anyone tried both?

  8. @glamazon56 – I actually have Psssst too! And I have to say, I love Pssst, but one of the first ingredients is propane. Propane! That freaks me the freak out.

  9. Thanks for this review! I have been using Klorane Dry Shampoo, which I like, but was really looking to dry a different powder one…so many of them out there are more of a alcohol? mist and don’t work as well as the powder does for me. Can’t wait to give this one a try!

  10. Wow, I’m so glad I got to introduce this one to you ladies! I’ve tried many dry shampoos and this is seriously the best out there. Like you @mandaleem – I don’t feel quite awake unless I shower, but I hare washing my hair every day. Until I found the hair refresher, I just didn’t have a choice. My long, fine, thin hair shows the slightest bit of oil – add make any volume I have disappear. So washing, conditioning, drying, etc had to be done every day – bleh. With the stila I can put my hair under a cap, take quick shower and I’m done. So it’s green too!

It’s also great for traveling – right after a plane ride, a day at the beach/pool and especially for camping.

@melinda – try this one if you’re looking for a blendable powder

@cori – while I don’t know if this powder will “tame” you poufy side, it will definitely help out on the plastered pillow side!

@glamazon56 – it’s p-e-r-f-e-c-t for bangs. Just a teeny puff makes them look freshly blow-dried.

I also forgot to mention – if you are the type to get a blow out – this stuff totally extends the life span of it. Even getting my regular hair cut is better because I can wear my fancy saloon blow dry for more than 12 hours!

  11. I’ve never used a dry shampoo before…thanks for the enthusiastic recommendation! With stila, do you still have to brush out the powder? That’s always seemed like an inconvenience.

  12. Whoa, @stef, propane?! I thought, no way, but I checked and of course you’re right! Sorry, @glamazon56!

@tyna, this sounds like a stila must-have. I’m leaning towards creme bouquet. Thanks for the tip!

  13. @tyna – Great review with very high recommendations! I am so jealous of my friends that can use dry shampoo and extend their professional looking “blow out.” I have thick hair and plenty of it. However, I have been cursed with a sensitive scalp and seborrheic dermatitis.

I look forward to more WE HEART LOVE ALERTS.

  14. @Lori – you do not need to brush this powder out. You should be able to get it all absorbed with just your fingers. Moderation, as always is key. Start with 1 puff of powder and add until the desired effect is achieved. It’s and easy product to work with!

  15. @turboterp – isn’t that insane? I couldn’t believe my eyes. You wouldn’t think spraying propane on your head would be good, right?

  16. @stef and @turboterp…thanks for the head’s up on the propane- wow! I’ll have to make sure not to light the grill anymore!
I will def try the Stila dry shampoo- thanks @tyna for the bang shout out! and I may sneak the pssst in from time to time until then!

  17. I’m a dry shampoo convert :P At first I thought it could never work on my super dark hair, but I gave Oscar Blandi’s dry shampoo a try and have been in love ever since (you know, for those mornings you hit snooze one too many times…and you don’t have time to style your hair). I got mine on sale at Sephora, but after I run out, I’ll have to check out this one from Stila because of your glowing review, Tyna!

  18. I’m bad and wash my hair every day but there are times when my bangs in particular need a pick me up, especially if I go out after work! I definitely want to try this!!!

  19. Woah, this stuff sounds awesome! If I go a day without washing my hair it feels greasy and limp, and I’ve always been wary of dry shampoos…but this sounds wonderful and EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for!

  20. Yeah, I can’t stand not washing my hair every day, but sometimes I really could use a little refreshing or maybe just wake up and run some errands and not feel like a filthy bum. The baby powder thing makes me look about 20 years older b/c it never blends into my dark hair, so if you can use this w/ no problems, @tyna , then I know I’ll be okay.

I am now afraid of dry shampoos you can use to cook burgers with…

  21. @ mandaleem – I LMAO at how you admitted to being prone to head injuries…it’s probably not funny to you, but I’m hella inappropriate :)
