A floral fantasia is in bloom with MAC’s new collection

Talking about spring collections in the middle of winter is such a tease. Excitement’s brewing but the warm weather definitely isn’t – at least where I live! However, it sure was a breath of fresh air playing with MAC’s latest spring collection, A Fantasy of Flowers.

MAC-Fantasy-Flowers-3

From pretty petals to dewy earth tones, there are enough fabulously floral-inspired goodies in the MAC A Fantasy Of Flowers collection (with both a pink and green centric line) to get you ready for the upcoming season.

MAC-Fantasy-Flowers-2

MAC’s take on this collection is to keep the eyes and cheeks natural and the lips pretty with lots of rose hued shades. All of the products in this collection work together to create a balance that lets you have fun with color without feeling like you’re taking a huge risk.

MAC-Fantasy-Flowers-4

We were able to try out two Mineralize Eye Shadows ($21), each compact housing four easy to wear colors that are coordinated to work with each other. The frost formula tends to run on the sheerer side of the pigment scale, so these probably won’t interest those of you seeking really bold color (unless you apply it wet!)

MAC-Fantasy-Flowers-6Pink Sensibilities

Pink Sensibilities is a chocolatey pink palette, which works really well together on the eye. The rose hue is present, even in the brown shades.

Yellow pink packed with glitter
Medium cool brown shimmer
Icy pink with glitter
Chocolatey brown with silver micro glitter
(These are all beautifully pigmented, especially for a mineral shadow ~Stef)

The pinks are on the cooler side and are perfect for highlighting. Don’t be scared of the pink shades! These are very harmless.

Great Beyond is an easy to wear purple palette that blends plums and violets together in a natural, seamless way. So natural that you may even miss the “purple” aspect of it!

MAC-Fantasy-Flowers-5BGreat Beyond – indoors

Light lilac with micro glitter
Dirty plum shimmer
Dirty violet shimmer
Dark blue grey shimmer
(Again, nicely pigmented)

MAC-Fantasy-Flowers-Chartreuse-Bouquet

It’s not a true MAC collection without some pigment, right? There are four Pigments ($21) and we received Chartreuse Bouquet to try. I love the splashes of garden green in this collection!

MAC-Fantasy-Flowers-Chartreuse-Bouquet-swatchChartreuse Bouquet – A wash of shimmery chartreuse (as a chartreuse lover, I hoped for more pigment ~Stef)

Chartreuse Bouquet is described as a shimmering acid green, which is a rather interesting shade to work with. It reminds me a bit of celery – in a good way! It’s light enough to introduce a splash of unexpected color. It would make a beautiful eyeliner!

MAC-Fantasy-Flowers-14

Hi, it’s Stef, we heart this co-editor and newly budding blush hoarder, interrupting Amanda’s post to give you the details on the two cheek products from MAC A Fantasy Of Flowers that we got to check out. And by “we” I mean “me” because I had to keep them. How could I not? Just look at them!

MAC-Fantasy-Flowers-15

MAC’s Mineralize’ Skinfinishes ($30) are a particular weakness of mine. They always remind me of pictures of Earth taken from space, with their beautiful swirls of color and shimmer. What they do to skin is rather celestial as well!

MAC-Fantasy-Flowers-16

Perfect Topping is divine. The shades swirl to a light golden peachy pink that gives just enough color so you can use it as a light blush or a highlighter. It’s finely milled, not glittery and really, just gorgeous.

MAC-Fantasy-Flowers-17

But as beautiful as Perfect Topping is, Petal Power Mineralize blush ($25) is really the stand out in the cheek department. It’s a bright coral pink with a heavy underlying gold sheen. I say underlying because it almost looks like the coral lays over the gold, rather than the gold being within it (if that makes any sense.) It’s smooth, intensely pigmented and as good as blush gets!

And with that, I hand it back to Amanda…

MAC-Fantasy-Flowers-Heavenly-Hybrid

Last are my favorite of the MAC A Fantasy Of Flowers collection, which I feel define this floral fantasy very accurately – the lip products! MAC surely dedicated a majority of the floral theme to the lip products and they do not disappoint.

MAC-Fantasy-Flowers-SnapdragonSnapdragon and Heavenly Hybrid

From what I learned about this collection, everyone (myself included) was very excited about the Lipsticks ($15). I might also add that they are all Lustre formula because I know there are Lustre fans out there!

Heavenly Hybrid, a mid-tone berry, is the deepest color of the collection and I really love it. It could easily be layered on for more color. The Lustre formula in this shade also showed up very nicely on my pigmented lips! I also tried Snapdragon, a mid-tone blue pink. This gave my lips a nice cool pink hue but it’s a lot lighter than Heavenly Hybrid. It makes a perfect no fuss/no mirror kind of shade and we can never have enough of those in our purses.

MAC-Fantasy-Flowers-playful-petalPlayful Petal and Deelight (a permanent item that made it into our limited edition box, sorry!)

I love me some Cremesheen Glass ($20) and you definitely shouldn’t sleep on these if you love this formula. The colors are incredibly spring-ready and just plain wonderful. After testing Playful Petal, I’m gonna have to say, it really is playful. Kind of like an 80’s dream come true. The best part about this gloss? The pretty sparkles!

Snapdragon lipstick (lustre) – a bubble gum blue pink wash
Heavenly Hybrid lipstick (lustre) – medium berry-kissed magenta
Playful Pink cremesheen glass – sheer magenta with bright purple pearl
Deelight cremesheen glass – medium pink nude creme

(Again, Deelight is not part of this launch, but was in our box to review, sorry! The bonus? It’s permanent, classic and super pretty!)

I think MAC’s A Fantasy of Flowers puts a fresh look at spring on the beauty front with wearable shades that are fit for many skintones. There’s nothing too out of the ordinary here. You’ll be happy to find something for yourself in this collection, but act fast because it’s limited edition!

  1. Looks like spring to me :) The weather feels like spring today too. Perfect timing. I love the colors of this collection.

  2. Snapdragon and Playful Pink look like a lot of fun, but it’s the blush that really has my attention– that beautiful Petal Power will be mine, today if possible! Great overview of this release, @mandabear !

  3. Oh, I love these. I immediately saw Pink Sensibilities and Deelight cremesheen and wanted them (oh, chocolately pinks and beige-y pinks…you are my downfall.)
But the Great Beyond looks great; i wouldn’t have through so, but the swatches make me reconsider. (Never judge in the pan, Alyssa!! You know this!!!)

I like Chartreuse Bouquet, but it reminds me of Golden Olive without the gold sheen? I’m with @stef, I’m surprised at the color payoff, especially for a MAC pigment.

But great review, @mandabear! Looks like I’m going to MAC this weekend…

    1. The Cremesheens are my favorite! I love the non-sticky but lasting consistency. While Deelight was not part of the collection, I still think it could’ve been :) It’s a perfect My Lips But Better shade!

    2. I was so dazzled by the pretty, pretty pictures that I missed that! :-) That’s even better then, I don’t have to worry about it being sold out!

    1. it really is. sometimes I’m scared of pink, but it’s very beautiful.

  4. This whole post was like a breath of fresh spring air–I literally looked at everything and was like, “Ahhhhhh.” And I’m crushing especially hard on Pink Sensibilities!

  5. I need this entire collection to help get me out of the greys of Winter! Snapdragon and Great Beyond are gorgeous, but I love all the lippies.

  6. Heavenly Hybrid looks like it’s going to be my answer to “What orchid lipstick do I buy for the Year of Orchid?” Stunning!

Also–that Petal Power Mineralize Blush!!! Just. Wow.

I’m going to have to make the trek out to a MAC counter.

  7. This is one happy colorful collection. This is just the ticket to get out of the winter blues.
